08 - Stress
Third Person POV:
Ryder and five of his pups, Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Zuma, and Rocky were chilling at the Lookout Tower. There wasn't a mission, so they have some time to themselves to do whatever they want.
Skye is at Jake's Chalet talking with Everest. Chase locked himself into the presence of his pup house. Marshall played cards inside the Lookout in the control room with Robo-Dog. Rocky and the other two pups were downstairs with a box. A special one.
"What's inside the box, Ryder?" Rubble asked in bewilderment. The box is cardboard, brown, and small.
"Remember how I said the brand-new Pup Pup Boogie is coming out soon? It arrived today. And it got me thinking..." Ryder thought to himself as he opened the box.
"What did it get you to think, dude?" Zuma questioned.
"Chase and Marshall both like playing Pup Pup Boogie..." Ryder explained.
"So?"
"So...We can try to get them back together by playing this game. They both love playing Pup Pup Boogie, so if they play it together, they would probably have too much fun and remember how they were before. Before, they always played together and always enjoyed it! And since both of them seem to be sad, maybe the game will make them feel a little better! It's worth a shot." Ryder described.
"You may be onto something, Ryder. It will probably bring them back together as best friends again. Hopefully, it will. Marshall and Chase not being friends anymore have had a negative impact so far." Rocky peered inside of the now open box.
Inside the box was an instruction manual and the actual game. Ryder picked up the manual to read.
"The third version of Pup Pup Boogie. The new and improved version." he read the manual aloud.
"I've been practicing my moves for Pup Pup Boogie. Maybe I'll get a higher score than last time." Rubble thought to himself.
The pups have been practicing and working on their moves, in hopes of beating a certain pup's score. Skye's score. She's the best at the game.
"Haha! Well, you can play after Chase and Marshall." Ryder continued to read the instructions so he could set up the game, "I'm almost finished setting up the game."
"Great, dude!"
A few minutes later, the game is already set up. The only thing that Ryder needed was for Marshall and Chase to come to play Pup Pup Boogie.
"I'm going to call the two pups right now. I'm sure they'll want to play." Ryder took out his pup pad, "Hey, Chase. Can you come inside? The new Pup Pup Boogie is here and I think you should try it out."
Chase was in his pup house, tired and stressful-looking. He needs something to cheer him up.
"I'll come, Ryder. Give me a minute." Chase said, ending the call.
"Chase is coming. Now, call Marshall. He's only upstairs." Rocky observed the big TV screen.
"Alright." Ryder dialed Marshall, "Marshall! The new Pup Pup Boogie is here! Come downstairs to check it out!"
Marshall looked bored out of his mind playing cards with Robo-Dog. He played for about two hours non-stop, miserably.
"I'm coming, Ryder! I've been practicing my moves!" Marshall tried to muster a smile before knocking down a stack of cards.
"Okay, Marshall!" Ryder ended the call.
About a minute later, the two pups arrive in the room.
"Hey, Ryder! You called me over here to play Pup Pup Boog—What is Marshall doing here?" Chase coldly stared at Marshall.
"—And what is Chase doing here?" Marshall slightly growled at his ex-best friend.
"I want you two to play Pup Pup Boogie together. Since you two have been down lately, maybe the game will cheer you up a little bit." Ryder suggested.
"I'd play Pup Pup Boogie, but not with Marshall." Chase refused.
"I have to agree...I'm not playing with Chase." Marshall declined, "Is there anyone else I could play with, Ryder?"
Ryder exhaled in fatigue.
"Uh, no. Rubble, Rocky, and Zuma aren't playing now. They want you two to go first. And Skye is at Jake's Mountain. That only leaves you two." Ryder replied, "Can you at least play? Just this once? Someone needs to try it out."
Chase and Marshall stared at each other, with no expressions on their faces.
"Fine...Marshall and I will play Pup Pup Boogie." Chase groaned.
"What he said. C'mon, Chase. Let's start playing to get this over with." Marshall walked to the game.
Chase followed his ex-best friend to the boogie board.
"Good thing your plan is working so far, Ryder," Rocky whispered.
"It sure is, dude," Zuma responded.
The game started, and the two pups started playing.
"To the Pup Pup Boogie! To the Pup Pup Boogie! To the Pup Pup Boogie!" the music sounded.
Both Marshall and Chase's scores are tied so far. The two are concentrated in the game. They seem a little happy, too.
"Go, Chase! Go, Marshall!" Rubble cheered the two pups on.
"Thanks, Rubble!" the German Shepherd focused on the game.
"Chase...You're actually doing pretty good." the Dalmatian looked over to Chase, who was surprised when Marshall said this.
"Really? Thanks, Marshall. You're actually doing good, too." the German Shepherd admitted.
This got a shocked look on Ryder and the other pups' faces. The Dalmatian and German Shepherd continued to play. They've been playing for about seven minutes, now.
"I've been practicing my tailspin for a while now! It's almost time to use it!" Marshall cheered as he continues to dance.
Once it was time to finally time to do the tailspin, Marshall went all the way across the room in circles. Chase's score was a tiny bit higher than Marshall's score now.
"Marshall! Watch out, dude!" Zuma warned the Dalmatian, who is now out of control.
"WOAHHHHHHHHHH!" Marshall spun around.
He crashed in front of the TV, unplugging a cord, which turned it off. This caused the game to stop immediately.
"Marshall?! What did you do? I was winning!" Chase complained while rolling his eyes.
"It was an accident, Chase! Not a big deal. Just turn the TV back on." Marshall picked up the remote, "See?"
Once Marshall pressed the power button, the TV didn't turn on. This got a nervous response from Marshall.
"Are you serious, Marshall? I was doing so good until you messed everything up! You did this on purpose because you were mad that my score is better than yours!" Chase grumbled.
"You blame me on everything, Chase! Everything is always my fault! My tailspin just went out of control!" Marshall hissed.
"No need to worry, pups. I'll just turn the TV back on and everything will be just fine." Ryder plugged in a cord.
He grabbed the remote to turn on the TV. The two pups' scores were reset.
"And now look! Our scores are reset and we have to start over!" Chase groaned, annoyed.
Ryder, Rocky, Rubble, and Zuma stood there, confused. Ryder's plan backfired.
"Whatever you say, Marshall. I'd rather not play Pup Pup Boogie with you." Chase stormed to the door to go outside.
"I hate him," Marshall mumbled to himself.
"Well, your plan didn't go too well, Ryder." Zuma shrugged.
Ryder sighed, tiredly, "It really didn't."
This got a bewildered look from Marshall, who overheard the two.
"Wait—this was your plan? To get us back together?" Marshall questioned, perplexed.
"Yes..." Rubble admitted honestly.
"You two seem very sad. We wanted to bring you two back together through something both of you love, but I guess it didn't work." Zuma indicated.
The Dalmatian stared to the ground, silently.
"You really didn't have to do this for us..." he sighed.
"Why?" Ryder asked.
"Because Chase and I are done! We will not be best friends ever again! Not even friends!" Marshall slouched down onto a pillow.
This got a huge frown on the boy's face.
"The two were such good friends before. I miss that..." Ryder muttered to himself.
● ● ●
"Why..." Chase pondered to himself.
The German Shepherd is sitting under a tree, right outside of the Lookout Tower. The small breeze blew through his fur as he stood there.
"Chase?" a feminine voice asked. It's Skye's voice.
"Skye? You're already back from Jake's Mountain? Didn't you just leave?" the German Shepherd got up.
"I left to go to Jake's Mountain two hours ago, Chase. I'm back now. Why are you sitting all alone? You seem sad..." the Cockapoo sat next to Chase to comfort him.
"I guess I am kind of sad..." the German Shepherd sighed.
"Kind of?"
"Well, very. I need to calm down a little. Let's take a walk. Shall we? We can talk...About a few things without anyone around." Chase exhaled stressfully.
"Alright, Chase." Skye started to step away from the tree, "Let's go."
