Chapter 26

(Jaxon’s POV)

It was currently twenty after six and I was running late. I was a nervous wreck – I had never cared this much about a date before but tonight I wasn’t going with just a regular girl that meant nothing to me: I was going out with Cassidy.

She was funny, really sweet, gorgeous, smart, artistic, and every time I talked to her, I suddenly got nervous. I know that she’s heard the rumours about Carson and I being the major players at the school and I’m just glad that she took the time to get to know real me, and not the player I always am.

In elementary school, Carson and I were always care free, athletic, funny, smart, and just all around childish guys, but once we hit the enter of middle school we just started to change because all the girls started to notice us. I was still athletic and had good marks but I basically turned into an arrogant asshole around girls and never actually had a serious girlfriend. Cassidy is the first girl that I had ever thought about dating and once I got to know her, she turned out to be a really amazing laid back girl who saw that the old me was still buried underneath the mask.

I knew that I would be late picking her up, but it wasn’t intentional so I sent her a quick text to let her know that I was running late.

I just had to get dressed now, but I didn’t want to go overboard on this… oh god I sound like a love sick girl!

I turned around to check my phone when I heard it beep.

I went over to my closet and picked out a pair of dark blue skinny jeans with a slight rip near the bottom, a black belt, a white v-neck shirt and a maroon coloured athletic zip-up hoodie to wear on my date along with my black converse sneakers.

After another five minutes I was finally ready for my date and headed out of the house to my car. Along the short drive to her house I was a barrel of nerves! This was the first time I had liked a girl enough to actually want a real relationship and I really hoped she liked where we were all going tonight. Kylie and Zayn were meeting us at Peani’s café like usual but after that we were going to the glow in the dark mini putt course downtown. It was Kylie’s idea and I agreed to it because I like mini golf and I hadn’t gone in a while. Also, I hoped that Cassidy would find it cute.

I drove into her driveway, put the car in park and got out to walk up to her door. When I rang the doorbell, her dad answered the door with a smile. “Hey kid, she’s just upstairs and will be down in a minute.” he said with a smile, letting me in the entryway.

“Cass, Jaxon’s here so hurry up!” he yelled up the stair case.

“I’m coming, I’m coming !” I heard her yell as footsteps came down the stairs.

I actually think that my breath caught in my throat when I saw her. She was wearing light blue skinny jeans with a brown braided belt, a white t-shirt with light blue polka dots and a black long sleeved cardigan with a pair of light blue converse. She was dressed so casually but with her hair curled slightly in a high ponytail; she looked extremely beautiful.

“Hey” she said, knocking me out of the small trance I was in while I was checking her out.

I shook my head and smiled. “Hey, are you ready to go?” I asked.

She smiled and nodded turning to look at her dad. “I’m going but I’ll be back by ten.” she said, hugging her dad goodbye before following me out to my car.

We both got into the car and I backed out slowly before heading in the direction of Peani’s.

“We just decided to look to our usual restaurant then go to the indoor mini golf place downtown. Is that okay with you or do you want to do something else?” I asked her.

She turned slightly to look at me. “No no, that’s totally fine, just ummm… I’ve never played mini golf before so I don’t know how good I’ll be at it.” she replied.

I shook my head chuckling slightly. “I’m sure you’ll be fine.” I said.

For the rest of the drive we just talked about random things like what was happening at school, her art club and how she was settling into the city.

When we pulled up at Peani’s we both got out of the car and I met her at the front of the car. We got to the door and I opened it for her, letting her enter the café first.

“Thanks.” she said as the bell above the door chimed and we both walked in.

“No problem.” I replied and led her to an empty booth where we both sat down on different sides.

“So, I was just wondering why you wanted to come out with us tonight, I mean you don’t really know Zayn or Kylie and you surely had some other things you could’ve been doing… so yea, I was just wondering why you chose to come out with us?” I asked nervously and curiously.

She blushed for a second, not replying. “Well, umm… I mean I didn’t have any other plans and we’re friends, so when you asked me to come out I didn’t really have a problem with it or anything.” she replied shyly.

I nodded. “Okay, well I just wanted to make sure this is okay with you, I mean I know that you’ve heard about my reputation with girls, and I don’t want you to think that I’m trying to like use you or anything…” I rambled on nervously when Cassidy stopped me.

“Jax, I know about your player reputation. I got an earful the first couple days from some girls because I was hanging around you. I also know that you aren’t really like that. The first time I met you, you tried to hit on me and pick me up so I knew you were a player, but once I shut you down you just started changing and we became friends. I know who you are and I know it’s not a player.” she said smiling at me.

A smile grew on my face as I thought about how great the girl in front of me was. I grabbed her hand across the table. “Thanks for that, it actually meant a lot.” I said, squeezing her hand once.

She smiled slightly and her blush became slightly more prominent. “It’s no problem Jaxon.” she replied.

We chatted for a couple of minutes until Zayn and Kylie arrived … twenty minutes late.

As Kylie sat down beside Cassidy and Zayn sat down beside me I asked, “And where exactly were you two?”

They looked at each other before Kylie answered. “We were just running late, sorry about that.” she said, looking down at the menu for a second before moving it to the middle of the table.

We all knew what we were getting already, but I’m guessing Cassidy didn’t. “Hey Cass,” I said to get her attention, “we always get the same thing when we come here so you can look at the menu to see what you’ll have.”

She nodded in understanding and opened the menu looking at the various choices for a minute or two before she was done.

I raised my hand in the air, waving to Mrs. Peani to come over.

“Hey kids,” she said looking us over, “where are the other two tonight?” she asked.

I rolled my eyes. “They’re out on a date.” I said, still slightly annoyed that my best friend likes my little sister.

“YOU KNEW!?” Kylie exclaimed, her eyes bulging out of her head slightly.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance. “Of course, I knew. I helped plan out the date to impress my little sis, and do you really think Carson would go behind my back and date her?” I asked hypothetically.

“Anyways,” Mrs. Peani said, “good for them, I had a feeling that those two would get together soon.” she finished with a smile and looked towards Cassidy, who was trying to blend in and go unnoticed. “And whose this?”

I smiled slightly. “This is Cassidy.” I said, as Cassidy faced her with a smile and waved shyly.

Mrs. Peani’s smile grew slightly. “Well dear, it’s nice to meet you… so what will you be having dear, assuming that the rest of you are having your usuals?” she asked politely.

As Zayn, Kylie and I nodded for our usual, Cassidy relayed her order. “Umm… I’ll have an orange smoothie with cherries added into it and a steak mixed salad with cheese bread on the side.”

Mrs. Peani wrote down her order nodding and went back to the kitchen where she yelled out our orders, although we could all hear her clearly. “Zayn, Kylie and Jaxon all want their usual orders, plus an orange smoothie with cherries added into it along with a steak mixed salad with cheese bread on the side for Jaxon’s date.” she said.

“Wow, Jaxon actually got himself a date… I guess it’s about time” Mr. Peani replied.

When I heard that I coughed uncomfortably and Cassidy blushed ducking her head nervously while Zayn and Kylie burst out laughing.

“Good one Mrs. Peani.” Zayn yelled out once he calmed down with his laughter, while I hit him across the back of the head.

“Dude, shut up.” I said mumbling before turning to Cassidy. “I am so sorry about this…” I told her.

She shook her head, moving her hair out of her face and blushing slightly. “It’s fine.” she said smiling, and I smiled back.

For the next twenty minutes we all just talked and joked around. But when Mr. and Mrs. Peani came out with the food we all stopped talking, all of us hungry enough to eat a couple of cows.

“Two half chickens with onions rings and a coke each for both you boys” Mr. Peani said, placing our food down in front of us, before standing up and coming around to pat me on the back and whisper in my ear. “She looks like a great girl Jaxon, don’t screw it up” he whispered in my ear.

I turned slightly. “Why don’t you shut up and get back to your job sir.” I muttered back and he laughed, before clapping me on the shoulder and heading back to the kitchen.

“A strawberry smoothie with a number 4 hotdog with mustard, ketchup and cheese for you Kylie, and for Cassidy an orange smoothie with cherries added into it and a steak mixed salad with cheese bread on the side” Mrs. Peani said putting down the girls plates and drinks in front of them. “If you need anything else just let me know.” she said before walking off to serve other customers.

We all ate and talked for about half an hour before we were all done and decided to pay. “Check please.” I yelled.

“Yea, yea, Jaxon… it’s coming” Mr. Peani yelled from the kitchen, and we all laughed.

A minute or two later, Mrs. Peani came out with two separate bills in her hand and passed one of them to me and one of them to Zayn. “Just leave the bills with the money on the table when you leave, have a good day, and tell Carson and Lexi to come by soon.” she said waving goodbye.

I opened up the bill and looked at the total … $23.70, before I reached into my pocket and pulled out my wallet.

Cassidy put her hand over my wallet before I could take the money out and I looked at her curiously. “What’s wrong?” I asked, trying to move her head.

She just shook her head. “Why are you paying for me Jaxon? I brought money and I can pay for myself.” she replied with a confused look on her face and I just shook my head, moving her hand off of my wallet.

“Cass, it’s fine, seriously. You don’t need to pay tonight, it’s on me.” I said, taking out a twenty dollar bill and a five dollar bill and placing them with the bill on the table.

“Are we good to go now?” I asked putting my wallet back in my pocket after Zayn paid for his and Kylie’s meal.

Everybody nodded so we all stumbled out of the booth and headed to two separate cars. “We’ll meet you at the mini golf place in a couple of minutes.” Kylie told me while getting into the car that Zayn had probably borrowed from Zach. I nodded in approval and got into my car with Cassidy.

Before I started the car, Cassidy reached over and grabbed my hand, so I looked at her slight puzzled.

“You really didn’t have to pay for dinner,” she said shaking her head slightly… smiling, “but thanks you, it was really sweet.”

I squeezed her hand lightly and started the car. “It’s not that big of a deal Cass, but you’re welcome.” I replied.

Before I backed out of the café parking lot, Cassidy leant over and kissed my cheek lightly, making me look at her and smile slightly. It made me happy that when I looked at her she was smiling to herself and blushing slightly. I squeezed her hand again affectionately and pulled out of the car park.

It was only a three minute ride to the mini golf indoor course so I drove in silence with one hand on the wheel while the other hand was holding onto the wonderful girl next to me.

We pulled up to the mini golf place around quarter to eight. It looked pretty empty, maybe a couple other people here but all in all; hopefully we wouldn’t have to wait at all.

When we opened the door to the mini golf place, a little jingle played out of a horn located above the door and we noticed that Zayn and Kylie were already there… kissing in the corner.

“Yo, Tyson! Get your hands off your girl so we can actually do what we came here for.” I yelled while coming up behind him and pulling him away from Kylie. I shook my head, “You need to control yourself dude or you and your girl ain’t gonna be virgins for much longer.” I said laughing as both him and Kylie full on blushed.

“Why don’t you just shut your face and enjoy your date on your own?” Kylie said while grabbing Zayn’s hand and pulling him towards the exit.

“Come on guys, seriously?!” I asked, throwing my hands up in defeat.

“Have fun.” Kylie said waving at me while winking at me and nodding in Cassidy’s direction.

I shook my head slowly and looked back at Cassidy. “I’m sorry that I made them leave, we can go if you want. I don’t want you to have to be stuck with me or something.” I said a little grudgingly.

She shook her head and smiled at me. “It’s fine, I like hanging out with just you… it’s kinda fun.” she said blushing.

I smiled at her and took her hand, leading her to the front desk. “Hey, we’d like a round of 18 holes with the glow in the dark of effect.” I told the middle aged girl behind the counter.

“Sure,” she said typing it into the computer that rested on the counter beside her. “That’ll be $13.50 please.”

I nodded at took out fifteen dollars from my wallet and she passed me back the dollar and fifty cents in change.

“Here’s you putters and two balls, would you guys like a score sheet?” she asked us, passing us two dark blue putters with a lime green ball and a hot pink ball.

I looked at Cassidy and she shook her head. “No thanks.” I said, passing a putter to Cassidy and the hot pink ball.

We went into the mini golf arena and I turned to look at her. “So you’ve never done this before… do you want to go first and let me show you how to do it or do you want me to go first?” I asked her.

“Umm… you can go first and then I’ll go.” she replied shyly.

I nodded and placed my ball on the putting green and lined up my shot. Everything was glowing, along with my white v-neck and Cassidy’s tank top. The hole was just a straight hit with little bumps down the side of the course. I putted the ball and it went right into the hole … hole in one!

I smiled in accomplishment and went to pick up my ball that was in the hole.

I turned back to Cassidy who was smiling in aww at what I had just done. I shook my head chuckling slightly.

“How did you do that?” Cassidy asked when I came to stand near her.

I simply shrugged. “When I was little I used to be really good at mini golf. I haven’t played in a couple of years but I guess I still have the skill.” I replied.

“Well, you are certainly a pro mini putter Jaxon… now do you think you could help me?” she asked hopefully.

I threw my arm around her shoulder hugging her to my side. “Cass, you will be golfing better than me at the end of the night.”

That wasn’t far off really because by the end of the eighteen holes, she was putting that ball in a lot of the holes in one or two tries. I was actually proud of her because for being so good without ever mini putting before she must have had a lot of determination to be good at it.

“Wow Cassidy,” I said once we had handed in our putters and were leaving the mini putt place, “you are really good for a beginner, are you sure you’ve never played before?” I asked her while we were holding hands and walking towards my car.

She shook her head. “Nope, I’ve never played before… maybe it was beginner’s luck.” she said teasingly and smiling.

We got into the car, but this time I went around to the passenger’s side and opened her door for her. “Wow Jaxon, such as gentleman.” she said jokingly as she kissed my cheek again and got into the car while I rolled my eyes and smiled.

I got into the car and pulled out of the parking lot. It was about a fifteen minute drive to Cassidy’s house and we just relaxed. It looked like she was getting tired so I didn’t want to make her talk when she looked like she wanted to sleep. I turned the radio on really low so you could just here the lyrics of a regular R&B station.

When I pulled into Cassidy’s driveway, I got out of the car and walked around to the passenger side to open her door for her. She was almost asleep so I shook her slightly to get her up. She opened her eyes and looked at me.

“Oh, I’m sorry Jaxon.” she exclaimed tiredly and got out of the car.

I shook my head chuckling. “It’s fine Cassidy, you look tired so once you get inside I’ll just leave.”

It was a little after ten at night so I could understand why she was tired if she had gotten up early for school this morning.

We walked up her driveway together and stopped at the door. “Thanks a lot for taking me out tonight Jaxon, I had a lot of fun.” she said smiling shyly looking into my eyes.

I shrugged and looked back at her nervously. “I’m glad I asked you out, it was fun and I was wondering if you wanted to go out again.” I asked.

Her smile grew slightly and she nodded. “Yea,” she said, “I’d actually really like that.” she replied and a blush appeared on her cheeks.

I really wanted to kiss her, but I wasn’t sure if she wanted to so I leaned in slightly, bringing my hand up to touch her cheek and letting my forehead touch hers. “Can I kiss you?” I whispered to her.

She bit her lip slightly, nodding shyly. A small smile appeared on my face as I leaned in the rest of the way touching my lips to hers lightly.

The kiss was really soft and sweet. Our lips moved together for a couple of seconds before I pulled back and looked into her eyes with a smile on my face.

Before I could back away, her front door opened and I saw her little brother there with his arms crossed.

I jumped back a bit and put my arm around Cassidy’s waist. “Hey little guy, what did you want?” I asked him, looking down at him.

He didn’t reply to me and looked up at his big sister, who had a blush across her cheeks and a small smile. “Why did he tell me that he wasn’t your boyfriend when you were just kissing him?” he asked bluntly and I tried to hide my laugh while Cassidy let out a round of giggles.

He turned to look at me. “So are you Cass’s boyfriend?” he asked me slightly confused.

I smiled and looked at Cassidy for a second to see her smiling back at me. “Yea kid, I guess I am.” I replied.

“Okay, cool.” he said nodding, before heading back inside his house yelling at his parents. “MOMMY! DADDY! YOU WERE RIGHT, JAXON IS HER BOYFRIEND!” I could hear him say.

I turned to look at Cassidy, who was still standing in my arms. “I’m sorry about that, hope your parents don’t mind.” I said wincing slightly while she chuckled.

“They don’t mind Jaxon, it’s just a bit embarrassing that they already sort of guessed before tonight. And by the way, yeah, I’ll be your girlfriend.” she said teasingly.

I laughed and kissed her quickly again. “Well that’s good, but I do have to go… sorry you have to face your family alone.” I stated honestly.

She shook her head. “It’s fine, you go… I’ll talk to you tomorrow maybe.” she said kissing my lightly for a second or two and heading inside her house. She turned around for a second before she closed the door and waved at me. “Bye.”

I smiled back at her. “Bye.” I said.

I headed back down her driveway with my hands in my pocket and a smile on my face.

Maybe I had finally found the one girl that could change me back into the person I used to be; the guy that people liked and not just used for popularity. I guess you could say, I found the girl that I could see myself falling for.

So that’s the double date… I hoped you enjoyed it, it’ll be the last time that there is another POV besides Lexi’s or Carson’s because they will be the main story from now on, except for one other point, but even that will be in Lexi’s point of view.

I’m sorry it’s a little late but I made it extra-long to make up for it !
