Chapter 25

Carson was just finishing packing up the picnic while I was standing near him. The temperature was slowly dropping so I was starting to shiver.

“You can put one of these hoodies on if you’re cold, that’s what they’re here for.” Carson said, passing on of his old basketball hoodies to me with a smile.

I smiled back at him. “Thanks.”

“So, are you ready for the rest of our night to begin?” he asked, picking up the picnic basket and blanket with one hand and taking my hand in the other.

I smiled at him. “Where are we going?” I asked.

“Actually… it’s not far from here.” he replied as we started walking back through the path to get to his car.

I raised an eyebrow questioningly at him in which he replied with a smirk. I let the subject drop but I was still curious as to what we were doing.

When we got back to his truck, Carson threw the picnic basket in the back seat and closed the door. “Close your eyes.” he said.

I was confused for a second, but quickly complied and closed my eyes. I could hear him moving around and setting something up. I really wanted to know what he was doing, but I kept my eyes closed as I wanted it to be a surprise.

After a couple minutes, Carson took my hand and turned me around. “You can open your eyes now.” he said, whispering in my ear.

When I opened my eyes, Carson’s face was really close to mine and I suddenly felt an urge to kiss him. I fought against myself and turned my head to see what the big surprise was.

Oh…. My…. GOD!!

My eyes bulged and I looked back at Carson with a big grin on my face. “You did all this?” I asked him.

He looked shy as he nodded and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “Yea, I mean, I wanted to take you to dinner and a movie… you know a normal first date, but I also knew I wanted to do something special and unique, so, umm.. is it okay? I mean, we could just go home if you want.” he said, babbling on nervously.

I put a hand over his mouth to halt his babble. “Carson, this is really cute and really incredible. Thank you.” I said and he smiled.

I turned around to look at the scene in front of me. The back of his truck had a couple blankets lying on the ground and two pillows along with a portable DVD player that was set up to watch the last Harry Potter movie, which he knew was one of my favourite movies.

“How is that working with a plug in?” I asked, raising an eyebrow questioningly.

He smiled. “I had it charging during school so that the battery would last for a couple hours without a plug in.”

I nodded understandingly, heading to the back of his truck so I could hop in. When I was about to hop in, I realized something and turned to look at Carson with my hands on my hips and my eyebrow raised. “Why were you charging the DVD player during school? You only asked me out at lunch, what if I didn’t say yes?” I asked.

He smiled sheepishly. “I was planning this week and I never got the courage to ask you out until lunch, and even then I just texted you. I was just hoping that you’d say yes.” he replied.

“Well, you sure are lucky that I said yes, aren’t you?” I said teasingly, smiling at him before turning back around and hopping into the back of his truck.

“Yea, I am” he said smiling at me as he hopped up into the truck himself.

He got the movie playing and sat down in the corner of the truck pulling a blanket out and over him. He lifted on side of the blanket and beckoned me over to lie beside him.

I smiled at him and went over to sit beside him. He threw the blanket over both of us and put an arm over my shoulder, pulling me to him so my head was lying on his shoulder.

As the movie started, I got comfy and relaxed in Carson’s arm thinking about how sweet he was being. Before this past summer, I had never thought about Carson romantically because he was always joking around with Jaxon and teasing me, but I’m glad things changed. During the summer we grew closer and starting to hang out by ourselves once school started. I’m happy that this happened and made us realize our feelings.

About half way through the movie I spoke up. “Thanks Carson.”

He turned his head to look down at me and I looked up at him. “For what?” he asked, running his hands through my hair.

“Just thanks for bringing me here, for doing all this. It was really sweet so thank you.” I said looking up at him and smiling.

He smiled and I saw his gaze flick down to my lips for a second. I knew that he wanted to kiss me and I wasn’t scared, I wanted it just as much as he did.

A blush blossomed on my cheeks as he moved his head closer to mine. His gaze was flickering between my eyes and my lips. I let my gaze flick to his lips once and he smiled at me.

I closed my eyes and his lips touched mine soft and sweetly. It was the third time we had kissed and I found myself wishing that it wouldn’t be the last. My mouth and his were moving slowly and he didn’t try to deepen the kiss at all, which I was thankful for. I wasn’t ready for that yet but I knew I would be soon because Carson was making my heart beat faster and faster every time I saw him.

We kept kissing for a couple of minutes. My hands went up and tangled in his hair as he leant over more so that we were lying down and his hands stayed where they were: one on my hip and one caressing my cheek. He was lying slightly on top of me but I didn’t mind that much.

When we finally pulled out of the kiss, my eyes were still closed and Carson was still caressing my cheek softly. As I opened my eyes, I saw Carson smiling at me sweetly and tenderly.

“Wow!” I said in a whisper but he heard me and starting chuckling.

“Well, I’m glad you liked it.” he said teasingly as he pulled us both up and into the position we were in before.

I blushed, hiding my face from him embarrassingly, but he just shook the hair out of my face and grabbed my chin turning my head towards him.

“You don’t have to hide your blush from me Lexi, it makes you look cute.” he said to me, leaning in to peck my lips once more.

I smiled at him and relaxed into him to continue watching the movie.

After another ten minutes, I felt Carson fidgeting beside me so I looked up at him and saw him looking nervous. “Hey,” I said sitting up and looking him in the eyes, “what’s wrong?”

He chewed on his lip making him look extremely hot, but I decided to ignore it because I knew that something was seriously bothering Carson.

“You can tell me Carson, whatever it is, I’m here for you.” I said grabbing his hand and holding it in between both of mine.

He smiled sweetly at me. “Well, I like this girl and I think she likes me too, but I need to know what she thinks about us being together.” he said shyly.

I realized that he was probably talking about me, but I wanted to hear him say exactly what he wanted to say. I smiled slyly. “Then why don’t you ask her yourself?” I said innocently.

He rolled his eyes and kept smiling. “Well, I guess that’s a good idea, so,” he said, taking both of my hands in his, “Alexandra Carter, will you be my girlfriend?”

My smile grew slightly as he asked me that and a bunch of butterflies grew in the pit of my stomach. “Well, I don’t know… are you sure Jaxon isn’t going to mind that his best friend is dating his little sister?” I asked, trying to make him sweat a little.

He shook his head smiling. “I talked to him the same day I told you I would and he was mad at first but he was happy in the end that you find someone apparently ‘trustworthy and handsome’ to lean on.” he said confidently.

I shook my head laughing slightly. “He did not say that Carson, you just made that up.”

“No, he didn’t say that,” he replied, chuckling lightly, “but he really didn’t mind once I told him that I really did like you and I wasn’t just using you.”

I smiled at him. “Well then Carson,” I said moving closer to him, my lips just hovering his, “I would love to be your girlfriend.”

By the time the sentence was out of my mouth, Carson lips came down on mine a little rougher than last time as he kissed me. We were both smiling through the kiss because we were both truly happy.

When we pulled apart we were both smiling at each other before we settled down, to continue the last thirty minutes of the movie before heading home.
