Heart Shaped Love - Chapter 23

Chapter 23

(Lexi’s POV)

It had been two weeks…. two weeks since Carson was supposed to talk to Jaxon, and I have no idea if that even happened!

Ever since that kiss behind the trophy case nothing has happened between me and Carson. We still hang out and all, but we’re never alone, it’s always a group so we’ve never really had the chance to talk about anything. I don’t know why Carson hasn’t brought it up, but I know that I’m too shy to bring anything about us possibly dating up in a conversation.

Today has been going by incredibly slow. My first two periods we did nothing but take notes and do homework, so that was incredibly boring, and then in phys. ed, our teacher was absent so we just sat around on the bleachers for 45 minutes doing absolutely nothing.

It’s finally lunch and I am starving. Zayn met up with Kylie a couple of minutes ago and they went to lunch by themselves while I had to put some things into my locker. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset – I think it’s cute that they have a good relationship, and I know that there will be times when they want to be alone and I totally support that.

I closed my locker door, swinging my bag over my shoulder and head towards the cafeteria. I really hope that they are serving pizza as the special today because I am starving and short on cash.

When I open the door to the cafeteria, I see that the special is chicken noodle soup and my stomach grumbles. I am not a fan of chicken noodle soup since Jaxon threw a bowl of it on me in fourth grade.

I get in line, checking how much money I have to find out I only have $3.00. Well, that can buy me a thing of fries and a carton of juice. It’s my turn to order so I tell the lunch lady to give me a small fry and an orange juice.

Once my meal is done, I feel a nudge in my side. I looked over to see Carson staring at me questioningly.

“What’s with the small lunch Cutie?” he asked, making me blush at the nickname he’s given me.

I shrugged. “I don’t have enough money for the kind of food I’d like to buy.”

He shakes his head slightly and orders his own meal. “Can I have three slices of pepperoni pizza and a cup of yogurt, along with a medium poutine, a coke, and a cheese burger.”

I raise my eyebrows at him as I move down the line towards the cash. “You sure have a big appetite.” I said teasingly.

A smile appears on his face and he looks at me from the corner of his eye. “Lex, the pizza and the yogurts for you.” he said, thinking that it was the most obvious thing ever.

My eyes widen slightly. “You didn’t have to do that Carson; I am perfectly capable of buying my own lunch, it just so happens that today, I’m buying a small lunch.” I replied.

He just shakes his head and smiles. “It’s fine Lex, really.” he said.

I paid for my own lunch, telling her to keep the couple cents of change and wait off to the side for Carson to pay for his lunch order.

Once he’s done paying, we walk together to our normal cafeteria table where Zayn and Kylie are already sitting, talking in a hushed tone.

I put my tray down on the table. “What’s up with you two lovebirds?” I asked, sitting down and raising an eyebrow at them.

They turned to look at us and shrugged simultaneously. “Nothing.” Kylie replied before taking a bite out of her apple.

I raised an eyebrow. “Mhm, sure.” I replied. I turned to look at Zayn, “Are you going to tell me?”

Zayn looked in Carson’s direction and smirked. “Why don’t you ask Carson?” he asked challengingly.

I turned to look at Carson to see he had a slight blush on his cheeks. “Do you know what they were talking about?” I asked, raising my left eyebrow.

He shook his head. “Nope, no idea.” he replied and I shrugged letting it go.

I starting eating my fries when Carson placed the pizza and yogurt he had bought for me on my tray. I turned to smile at him. “Thanks.” I said, before taking a huge bite out of a slice of pizza.

Carson returned the smile and said, “No problem.”

The four of them sat silently at the table, just eating, when Jaxon came over and dropped into this regular seat beside Kylie. “Hey guys, so what are we doing tonight?” he asked.

Zayn shrugged. “It doesn’t matter. I’m up for anything, I just want to spend some time with my girl.” he said pulling Kylie towards him slightly as she blushed.

“I’m with him, it doesn’t matter.” Kylie replied.

“I can’t go out tonight, I have something else I need to do.” Carson replied while typing on his phone. When he looked up he saw that all of us were staring at him. “What?” he asked, “I have plans already, and I really don’t want to cancel them.”

I was about to reply to that when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I had gotten a text;

You up for hanging out tonight? ;)

                    ~Carson

I turned to look at Carson, smiling and nodding slightly. “Well, I’m sure you’re plans are of great important if you, and I personally wouldn’t want you to cancel them.” I replied, before shooting a text back to Carson.

What did you have in mind? :)

                     ~Lexi

Carson smirked at me after he read his phone. “Glad you approve.” he said teasingly, stuffing his phone back in his pocket.

Jaxon turned to me while taking a drink of his coke. “What about you sis, you up for anything?” he asked.

I shook my head. “Sorry, can’t, I’ve got my own plans.” I replied, smirking slightly.

His eyes narrowed slightly. “What exactly do you have to do tonight because the last time I talked to you, which was this morning by the way, you didn’t have any plans for the whole weekend?” he asked, getting suspicious of my plans.

I smirked at him. “Oh you know, just stuff.” I answered. “But you know, I’m sure Cassidy doesn’t have any plans tonight, why not make your night out a double date so you don’t feel like a third wheel.”

He started to choke on his coke when I mentioned Cassidy. “What… w.. what are you talking about?” he asked, wiping the liquid off of his chin.

“Well, I’m sure you’d feel uncomfortable about being around Zayn and Kylie while you’re by yourselves, so why not invite a friend to hang out with?” I asked innocently.

His eyes narrowed in slits, figuring out what I was trying to do. “You know what, that’s an excellent idea.” he said. “Cassidy, could you come here for a minute?” he asked, waving Cassidy, who was coincidentally three tables away, over to our table.

She got up from her friends and walked towards our table, sitting down in the empty seat across from Jaxon and beside Carson. “Hey, did you want something?” she asked shyly.

“Umm… yea…” Jaxon replied, suddenly nervous, “I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with Zayn, Kylie and me tonight?” he asked pointing to the couple who was sitting beside him.

Cassidy blushed slightly and nodded. “Sure, sounds great, but what exactly are we doing?”

“We aren’t exactly sure yet, most of the time we all just go to a diner and then out to the movies, but since these two idiots,” he said pointing to Carson and me, “are busy tonight, we might switch it up, so is it okay if I pick you up at six thirtyish?” he asked.

She nodded. “Yea, that’s fine. I’ll see you tonight.” she said getting up with a smile and a wave before returning to her friends.

I smiled at him. “Have fun on your double date.” I said slyly.

Jaxon turned to look at me with a smile. “I will, but right now I have to go do some last minute history homework, I’ll see you guy’s later.” he said getting up and dumping the rest of his food in the trash before exiting the cafeteria.

“Nice going there.” Carson said, nudging me in the side.

I shrugged finishing off the last of my pizza. “He needs a girlfriend, and I know that he wouldn’t have asked her out without a push, so I did what I had to do.” I replied.

“So, tonight, I’m guessing we’re trying to play matchmaker with those two?” Kylie asked.

I nodded sheepishly. “That’d be greatly appreciated” I said innocently.

“Okay, but just make sure you know that you owe us.” Kylie replied.

“Yea, sure, sure.” I said, shaking my head chuckling slightly.

“So, what are you guys doing tonight? Hot date?” Zayn asked wiggling his eyebrows at me and Carson.

My eyes widened slightly at this words. I looked at Carson from the corner of my eye and saw that his face held a similar expression. “Umm… nooo… what are you talking about?” I said sheepishly, laughing slightly.

Kylie and Zayn rolled their eyes. “Yea sure.” Kylie replied. “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you two are going out tonight, so, is it a date?” she asked raising an eyebrow at me, while I blushed.

Carson rolled his eyes as I sunk into my seat slightly. “Yea, it’s a date… do either of you have a problem with it?” he asked teasingly.

Zayn wolf-whistled at us while Kylie started laughing at my embarrassment. “Nope, no problem with it at all.” she replied, leaning into Zayn’s side slightly.

“Good.” Carson answered, throwing his arm over my shoulder as we all finished eating.

All I could think about was tonight; it would certainly be a night to remember.
