Heart Shaped Love - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
My mom came home on Sunday, around 7pm, from her business seminar in New York and was surprised when we told her that we hadn’t thrown a party on Friday night. Usually, we would jump at the chance to have a party when our mom is out of town, but when we told her that the five of us just went out downtown.
Now, it’s Monday morning and I just walked into the kitchen, dressed and ready, to see my mom eating breakfast in her pajamas.
“Do you not have to work today?” I asked her as I put my bag down near the door and headed to the fridge to get a yogurt cup for breakfast.
She shook her head. “Since our trip was extended a couple days and we only got in last night, everybody who attended the seminar in New York gets the next two days off, so if you want, I could drive you to school so you don’t have to go with Jaxon and Carson” she replied.
“That’s okay, I don’t have a problem riding with them” I answered and sat down on one of the stools beside the counter before opening my peach yogurt and taking a huge spoonful into my mouth.
“Really?” my mom asked sceptically, raising an eyebrow as she did so.
I nodded while swallowing my food. “Really” I said, taking another spoonful of yogurt.
“Okay, I’ll bite, what’s going on that I don’t know about” she asked.
“Nothing, I don’t know what you’re talking about” I replied, trying to keep the blush that was threatening to appear on my cheeks down.
She raised an eyebrow. “You sure about that sweetie, because last year you would complain about having to drive into school with them two, and now you don’t seem bothered at all.”
“I might’ve been wrong about them” I shrugged, finishing off my yogurt and throwing it into the trash.
“Really?” she asked again.
I sighed. “Just say what you really want to say before Jaxon comes downstairs or Carson walks in” I said putting my elbows on the table and resting my head in my hands.
“Did something happen recently between you and Carson that I am not aware of?” she asked strictly raising an eyebrow while also having an amused smile on her face.
“No” I sighed, “well, not really.”
“Ooohhh, gossip. Spill.” she said, looking genuinely interested in my answer.
“Why do you want to know so bad?” I asked, trying to hide the smile that was threatening to appear.
“Because” she said, “you are my daughter who has never been interested in anything romantic and suddenly, you are all buddy buddy with a guy you never used to stand, let alone tolerate. So spill.”
“Well, nothing’s really going on. I mean when Jaxon’s working, I go over to Carson’s to hang out with him. We’re friends – that’s all” I explained, leaving out a key piece of information.
“Mhm” she said. “Keep going, you’re leaving out key information”
‘Damn’ I thought, ‘she knows me too well’.
“Last week I went over to help him find his mother’s camera to delete some embarrassing photos she had taken of him. When I found it we had a moment and we almost kissed but his parents came home and I rushed out of there. We haven’t talked about it, but I guess that’s a good thing right now because I don’t feel comfortable having that conversation with him – it’d be awkward” I said. “Plus I may have a teeny crush on him”. I mumbled the last part, hoping she wouldn’t hear me.
“Aww that’s really cute, but if you don’t want to have that conversation, then you shouldn’t need to. Wait until you’re ready to talk to him about it” she said, giving me a bit of advice on my non-existent love life. “Oh, and what was that last part”
‘Darn’ I thought, ‘so close…’
I sighed. “I said; I might have a teeny crush on him”
“Ohhhh… well then, I’m happy for you. He’s a good guy and if anything ever happens between you two, I’ll support it” she said in a very motherly way.
I smiled wryly at her. “Thanks”
Just then, we heard the front door opening; meaning that Carson was here. “Yello Carter’s, hurry up or I’m leaving without you” he yelled from the living room, but quickly made his way to the kitchen.
He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a banana before nodding towards my mom. “Hello Eloise, how was your trip?” he asked before taking the seat right beside me and throwing his arm over the back of it while casually eating his fruit.
“Good, it was good. I’m just thankful I have a couple days of work now because of it” she replied chuckling quietly.
Carson chuckled in reply. “That’s good” he said to my mom before turning to me. “You ready?” he asked nodding towards the entry way.
“Yea, we’re just waiting on Jaxon” I replied.
“No, you’re not” Jaxon said as he rushed into the kitchen and grabbed a granola bar and a juice box off the counter. “I’m ready, so let’s go”.
I went around and hugged my mom before heading out the door behind my two guys.
I jumped into the back of Carson’s truck and told him to blast the music. His music was relatively mellow with a hint of rock so it always made me feel happy.
We were on our way to school when I looked into the front mirror of the truck to see Carson already staring at me. He smiled shyly (probably because he was embarrassed that he had been caught), but I just shook my head giggling silently and smiled back at him. His smile became bigger before he put his attention back on the road and I focused my gaze out my side window.
We got to school fairly early and Jaxon immediately jumped out of the truck. “I’ve gotta be somewhere so I’ll catch you later. I’m working tonight so I need a ride to the store. Bye” he quickly said before rushing into the school.
Carson and I climbed out of the truck together and met around at the front. “Where do you think he’s going?” he asked, nodding in the direction that Jaxon ran off in.
“Who knows, maybe to talk to Cassidy?” I stated. Now that I was thinking about it, maybe that’s what he was doing. If so, I was proud of him for making an effort in getting a girl’s attention for once.
“Hmm… maybe you’re right” he said. “Are your friends not here yet, I thought they were always early?” he asked nodding towards the tree on the right side of the school where we usually met up.
Kylie and Zayn weren’t there and it was unusual, but there was the occasional time where they would be late because Alenna and Zach were getting cozy in bed.
I shrugged. “I guess they’re not” I replied, heading into the school with Carson by my side.
“After you ma lady” Carson said as he held the door to the school open for me.
I chuckled at him and curtsied. “Thank you kind sir”, which earned a chuckle in return.
We were just talking when we arrived at my locker. Our conversation continued about the movie on Friday night while I was putting things from my bag into my locker. Conversation abruptly stopped when Stacy – the school’s head cheerleader and all around slut, came over to chat with Carson.
“Hey sexy” she purred while touching his arm.
I became slightly jealous with her attitude, but it quickly vanished when I saw that Carson had an uncomfortable expression on his face and he shrugged her hand off. “Hi” he said nervously.
“What’s wrong baby, do you not want some fun?” she asked with a smirk on her face and an eyebrow raised, daring him to answer her request.
He shook his head. “Sorry, no.” he replied, trying to be nice, but also trying to avoid the conversation that she was trying to have with him.
I smirked inside because he was turning her down, and he wanted to continue talking to me.
“What’s wrong baby” she asked, trying to sound sad and sexy at the same time, but really, it just sounded desperate. “You haven’t been hooking up with girls since the beginning of the year. Did you have a sexuality change or something?” she asked teasingly.
‘He hadn’t been with one girl for three weeks, maybe longer’ I thought. ‘What’s up with that?’
“No” he replied sharply. “I just want to spend any more time with the sluts like you at this school”.
I tried to hold back my laughter but I just couldn’t. I turned it into a discrete cough when I saw Carson look at me with an amused smirk on his face. I smiled sheepishly at him but he just rolled his eyes before putting his focus back on Stacy.
“What are you laughing at nerd?” Stacy asked with a snarl in her voice.
I closed my locker and turned around leaning on Carson. “Oh nothing, I thought I heard a slut talking, but I must have been mistaken” I said, “It was an outright bitch”.
“What did you just say?” Stacy asked, growing madder by the second.
“I thought bitches had excellent hearing” I stated.
“You better watch your back Lex, your brother’s friend won’t always be there for you like a charity case” she said flipping her cheap blonde hair from her face and crossing her arms.
Carson put his arm around my shoulder. “Yea I will be Stacy. Lexi’s one of my good friends so you better make sure nothing happens to her” he said in a sincere yet threatening tone.
“Yes Carson” she said in a scared voice before scurrying off to find her cheerleading posy.
I turned to Carson as we were walking down the hallway towards my class. “Thanks for that” I said.
He shrugged. “It’s no big deal. You’re the best girl friend I have, well actually you’re the only girl friend I have, and I’d rather you not be discouraged by Stacy and the rest of the tramps on the cheerleading squad”.
I smiled. “That’s really sweet” I said when we arrived at my home room, “Am I coming over after school to play video games with you while Jaxon’s working?” I asked.
“No way am I playing video games at you, I don’t like losing continuously” he said. “But you are coming over, I need a little help on an English project I have so I need you to edit that and then I wanted to cook something I found on the Internet”
I nodded. “Okay sure”
“By the way, if those tramps come after you, tell me and I’ll put a stop to it. You don’t deserve the hassle” he said before taking his arm off my shoulder. “I have to go, I don’t want to be late” he said as he nodded towards my homeroom.
I grabbed his arm to make him face me again. “That’s really sweet Carson” I said. I took a big breathe and went up on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek lightly. “I’ll see you after school?” I asked.
“Umm… yea, right after school meet me at my truck” he said, a little flustered by what had just happened.
I giggled quietly and waved. “Bye bye Carson” I said in a teasing tone.
“See ya” he said raising his head above his head as he rushed down the hall.
