Chapter 16

I woke up bright and early at 5am and I couldn’t fall back asleep. I was lying in my sleeping bag looking at the living room ceiling. All I could think about was Carson… I had to see him today at school and I didn’t know if it would be normal or beyond awkward. All I am praying is that Carson didn’t mention anything to Jaxon. If he did, I would be teased and probably yelled at because Jaxon had told me repeatedly when I was younger not to go after his friends. That wasn’t a big deal since I didn’t see any of them in a romantic way… until now.

Suddenly, Kylie’s phone alarm went off to the beat of Dance Again by J-Lo and Pitbull. Alenna and Kylie both woke up and sat up stretching. “Good morning beauties” Alenna said, her voice still a little groggy from sleeping.

“Morning” Kylie mumbled while covering a yawn that escaped her mouth.

“I’m going to make some pancakes while you two get ready” Alenna said while shooing us upstairs.

I passed Alenna but stopped and gave her a hug. “Thanks for coming last night”

"No problem kiddo, you and Kylie are like little sisters to me. I’ll always be here for you” Alenna said to me while releasing me from her hug. “So, what do you want in your pancakes?”

“Blueberries and chocolate chips” I said with a smile on my face.

“You were always weird” she replied shaking her head.

I stuck my tongue out at her before turning around and heading upstairs to get ready.

When I entered my room, Kylie was rummaging through my closet. “What. the hell. are you doing?” I asked her very slowly when one of my old shirts came barreling at my head.

Kylie turned to me and said, “I’m searching for the perfect outfit for you to wear today” before turning back around and continuing to nit-pick my clothes.

I shrugged and headed to my en-suite, plugging in my straightener before brushing my teeth. Once I finished my teeth, I proceeded to straighten every inch of my hair. I took my straightened hair at the front of my face and put it into a small braid, clipping it to the back of my head. I looked into the mirror with approval and decided to put a small amount of make up on. A bit of blush, a light pink lip gloss and a tad of mascara and I was done.

I walked back into my bedroom to see Kylie admiring an outfit that she had laid on my bed. It consisted of a pair of light blue skinny jeans with a couple of rips in them, a white tank top with small red flowers, and cropped black leather jacket and a pair of mid-calf tan boots.

“Ta Da!” Kylie said while pointing to the outfit. “You will look stunning today in school”

I chuckled quickly while walking over to my bed. “Thanks, but why am I in need of this outfit today exactly?” I asked while going to pick up a bra and a pair of panties from my drawer.

“This outfit” she said gesturing to the outfit I was currently picking up, “will make Carson fall, and fall hard for you”

I shook my head while rolling my eyes. “I don’t know why you’re going through all this work to find a perfect outfit. If he really liked me, which I doubt he does, he would like me for who I am” I said and walked towards the bathroom. “I’ll wear it today but tomorrow, I’m going back to regular jeans with a t-shirt and hoodie”

I closed the bathroom door to change but I still heard Kylie’s voice. “You’ll see, he’ll be looking at you differently today, that’s for sure”.

I finished changing and waited for Kylie to get ready before both of us went downstairs for breakfast. Alenna had two plates full of pancakes covered in tinfoil waiting for us when we entered the kitchen. “Thank you!” Kylie said while unwrapping her stack of banana pancakes and digging in.

I sat down on a stool and unwrapped my stack before thanking her and digging in to my own stack.

They were delicious. Last year, I was making two batches off pancakes: one blueberry and one chocolate chip. I accidentally made my pancakes with half and half but I didn’t want them to go to waste, so I ate them. They were the most delicious things I had ever tasted, so since then, that’s the only type of pancakes I eat.

We all finished breakfast probably ten minutes later. Kylie and I went to get our bags and waited near the door while Alenna started to clean up the living room. “Don’t worry about it Alenna, I’ll clean up after school” I yelled.

Alenna came into the main foyer with her things. “You sure?” she asked sceptically.

"Yea, I’m coming straight home today so it won’t be a problem” I said before opening the door and following Kylie and Alenna out to her car.

As we were headed to her car, I heard a door open and turned my head to see Jaxon and Carson heading to school to.

“Hey, you guys don’t need a ride today?” Jaxon yelled at us while walking over to me.

“Nope, Alenna’s gonna give us a ride today since she has to drive past the school anyways” I answered.

“Oh okay” he shrugged, but as I went to turn away, Jaxon grabbed my arm. “Wait one second, why did they come over in the first place?”

“I called them, and they came over” I answered.

Jaxon rolled his eyes. “You’re obviously leaving a vital piece of information out, but I shall not pry, so I’ll see you at lunch” he said. “Bye guys” he yelled while walking back over to Carson who was leaning on his driver’s side door with a serious look on his face.

I swallowed my insecurity for a second and smiled at him, giving him a little wave. Carson looked surprised by my actions, but gave me a genuine smile back before turning to get into his car. That one smile erupted a small fit of butterflies in my stomach, and I knew I was in big trouble when it came to Carson.

I sighed quickly with a smile on my face, and got into Alenna’s car to get to school.

She drove into the school parking lot twenty minutes later. Kylie jumped out right away, quickly thanking Alenna for the ride and headed over to where Zayn was waiting for her. ‘They are adorable together’ I thought.

I turned to Alenna in the front seat. “Thanks for the ride, and for last night”.

“You should really stop thanking me Lexi, but it wasn’t a big deal” she answered shaking her head slightly.

“Got any last minute advice that could work in my favour when I see Carson at lunch?” I asked, hoping she would tell me something useful.

“Yea, don’t drool” she said sticking her tongue out quickly.

“Very funny” I said while rolling my eyes. “But seriously, I’ve never liked anyone before and I don’t know how to act around him now.”

Alenna turned around in her seat slightly to look at me. “Look Alex, I know you like him, but if he has even the slightest bit of feelings for you, I don’t think he’ll do anything about them just yet. You’re probably the first girl he has ever liked with him being a player and all so don’t expect that much. Just act like you normally would around him and continue getting closer to him as a friend would be my advice.”

“That’s actually good advice Alenna. Thanks you’re the best” I said giving her a quick hug and exiting the vehicle.

I walked over to where Kylie and Zayn were standing looking all lovely dovey. “I approve of the relationship, but can you please act a bit normal when I’m around so I don’t feel like a third wheel.” I said rolling my eyes at their cuteness.

“Oh you mean like this” Zayn asked sceptically while he gave Kylie a kiss on the lips.

I smacked him on the arm while Kylie giggled and kissed him on the cheek. “Yes, like that. I don’t need to see that stuff. Keep it for your bedroom.”

“Oh, we will” he replied wiggling his eyebrows.

“Okay, okay. Enough with the jokes perv” I said, laughing slightly at him.

“So, what was the oh-so-important emergency you had that you had to call and take my girlfriend away from me last night?” Zayn asked raising one of his eyebrows while he still had an arm around Kylie’s shoulder.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, I was just lonely and wanted some company” I said, lying my ass off.

He rolled his eyes. “Don’t play stupid with me Lex. Kylie told me you were having an emergency and  you needed her and Alenna right away, so, spill it”.

I sighed. “Why would you tell him that Kyl’s?”

“I had to tell him, I’m not going to lie to him, and you shouldn’t either. Zayn won’t judge you, you’ve been friends for a couple years and he’s not going to blab your secret to the world” Kylie responded, sounding as logical as ever.

“Yeah Lex, whatever it is you can tell me. Just because one of my best friends is now my girlfriend, it doesn’t mean I don’t still care about my other BFF” he said sounding slightly worried now.

I sighed. “I’ll tell you, just don’t laugh at me”

“I promise” he replied, sounding truthful.

“I…dlf…Cas…on” I mumbled quietly, doubting that he would’ve understood that.

“I’m sorry, what did you say?” Zayn replied, confirming my suspicions that he didn’t hear me.

I sighed again. “I said…”

“Go on” he urged me.

“I like Carson” I said in a quiet tone, but loud enough that he would’ve been able to hear and understand what I was saying.

“Wait, I’m sorry, I thought I just heard you say you have a crush on Carson” he said raising an eyebrow at me.

“I did say that” I replied.

“Wooowww” he said slowly, “and how did you suddenly make this elusive discovery last night?” he asked.

“When I was over at his house last night, we almost kissed” I replied.

“Oh my god… you almost kissed him?”

I nodded.

“Hmm… never would’ve thought this would happen” he said, talking to himself most likely. “Well, have you talked to him since then?”

I shook my head. “Nope, I left as soon as I realized what would’ve happened and called the girls. I saw him this morning getting into his car and we smiled at each other, but that’s pretty much it” I answered.

“Well, I just can’t wait until lunch time” Zayn replied, and Kylie slapped him on the arm as the bell went and we headed inside to homeroom.

As I was heading to homeroom, I had to agree with Zayn; I couldn’t wait until lunch.
