Chapter 13

My morning classes were extremely boring and my biology teacher had assigned a six page lab activity that was due at the beginning of next week.

Once the lunch bell rang, Kylie and I met Zayn outside of the locker rooms and walked to the cafeteria. Aside from Zayn having his arm rested around Kylie’s shoulder, everything was pretty much the same as last week.

When we entered the cafeteria, we headed straight towards the line that was surprisingly short. The special today was chicken noodle soup, which I ordered – along with a small fry, a yogurt parfait and an orange juice. I paid for my own food, but noticed that Zayn paid for both his and Kylie’s lunch.  When we all had are food, we headed for our usual table near the back of the cafeteria.

After five minutes of basically silent eating, I put my spoon down and stared at my two best friends on the other side of the table. They quickly noticed the change of atmosphere and looked at me questioningly.

“So…” I stated.

Zayn shook his head slightly and crossed his arms, leaning back against his chair. “What do you wanna know Lex?” he asked with a slight smirk on his face.

I shook my head laughing. “I would have never guessed that you two would end together. How did this even happen? I mean I only figured out that Kylie liked you last week, but since when did you like her?” I questioned Zayn while Kylie blushed slightly.

“Hmm... let me think” he said, teasingly stroking his chin with his thumb and index finger.

“Seriously Zayn” I said while rolling my eyes.

“Okay, well after that douche broke up with her I started getting feelings for her but I knew that she wasn’t ready for a real relationship just yet so I waited” Zayn answered shrugging his shoulders as if it was no big deal.

My eyes widened slightly at his statement. “You’ve liked her for basically a year?” I asked in disbelief.

“Yeah” he shrugged then looked at me jokingly. “What? Did you think that my crush just started last week? Get real Lexi” he asked while rolling his eyes.

“Well, I thought maybe like you missed her during the summer when she left for a month during August and you realized you felt a little more than friendship for her. I didn’t think that you were harbouring those feelings basically all of last year!” I exclaimed.

“Well, that’s how I role”

I rolled my eyes and looked at Kylie who was just eating her lunch blushing slightly at our conversation. “So what about you?” I asked Kylie nodding in her direction.

“What about me?” she replied.

I rolled my eyes. “You know what I mean. How did this idiot ask you out?” I asked generally curious on how they had gotten together over the weekend.

“Hey!” Zayn interrupted when he realized I had called him an idiot.

“Oh sush” I told him before turning back to Kylie while me muttered something under his breath. “So... how did he ask you out?”

Kylie blushed slightly before answering. “Well… umm… Saturday morning when I went over to hang out with Alenna, Zach and Zayn were already gone somewhere so we were alone. During this time, Alenna told me that she had told Zach how I had a crush on Zayn so I was really worried that while they were out, Zach would tell Zayn that I liked him. Alenna told me not to worry but I couldn’t help it. So that afternoon when they came home, I was really nervous but that wasn’t the worst part. Alenna and I were dancing and we came downstairs in our dance clothes” she said shaking her head while I laughed.

“You mean you came downstairs in your bright sports bra and dance booty shorts” I asked while chuckling.

“Yea, I did.” Kylie replied rolling her eyes

“By the way” Zayn said, leaning into the conversation. “That was a very sexy outfit Cutie” he said in a low voice.

“ZAYN!” both me and Kylie yelled at him, while Kylie slapped him on the back of the head.

“Anyways” I said while Zayn was rubbing his head, “continue please” I told Kylie.

“Well, we ate dinner and I was doing the dishes and he came into the kitchen asking me to talk, but told me to come up to his room when I was done. I didn’t realize what he was talking about until Zach came into the kitchen with Alenna and told me that he had mentioned to Zayn that I liked him. I was mortified. So I went up to his room and was on the verge of crying because I thought that he was going to make fun of me or reject me or something, but I just sat there and umm… he kissed me.

“You kissed her?” I asked Zayn with a huge smile on my face.

“Yea, I did. Do you have a problem with it?” he said rolling his eyes and smiling a bit at the memory.

“So anyways” Kylie continued, “He told me that he’s liked me for a while and I didn’t believe him, but he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes” she finished with a big grin on her face.

“Aww… that’s cute guys” I said gushing over them. “I’m really happy for both of you”.

Zayn rolled his eyes and started eating again while throwing his arm over the back of Kylie’s chair. I also started to finish my food when I heard the annoying voice I had heard too much of this past week.

“There’s the happy couple!” Carson exclaimed while sitting down beside me and started eating his own fries.

Kylie blushed while Zayn rolled his eyes again. “How’d you find out?” Zayn asked Carson while Jaxon sat down beside Kylie like always.

“Umm… I don’t know. I might have saw you kiss her after first period so I kind of thought that you guys were advertising it” he replied shrugging his shoulders while throwing an arm around my shoulder and just continued eating.

Zayn chuckled while Kylie stuck her tongue out at Carson before they both resumed eating.

Jaxon threw his arm over Kylie’s shoulder and hugged her to his side. “Aww… my honorary little sister has a boyfriend. I am so proud of you, but don’t forget that you will always love me more than him” Jaxon said nodding at Zayn, who was rolling his eyes before taking her into his own arms and looked at Jaxon.

“Mine” Zayn said and kissed the side of Kylie’s head.

“Awen’t you two just adowable” Carson said in a baby voice that made me laugh while Kylie just flipped him the finger and pecked Zayn on the lips quickly before finishing her lunch.

In the middle of lunch Cassidy came over with a half-full tray of food. “Hey Jaxon” she said as she greeted my brother, who looked shell-shocked.

“Um… hey Cass” he mumbled nervously

I silently laughed before turning towards Cassidy. “Hey Cass, don’t worry about him. Did you want to sit with us?” I asked her trying not to burst out laughing at how nervous my brother looked right now.

“No that’s okay” she said shaking her head before turning back to Jaxon. “I just wanted to tell you that you left your cell phone at my house on Saturday” she said while taking his phone out of her back pocket. “My brother found it so there might be some extra games and stuff downloaded but other than that, there it is”.

“Oh… thanks Cass” he replied. “I’ll, umm… see you later?”

“Okay bye Jax. Bye Lexi” she replied waving at me before turning and walking off

The second she was out of hearing distant I started cracking up. “HAHAHAHAHA… you… you sounded so… nervous there dude… chill out” I said between laughs while trying to calm down.

“Shut up” Jaxon grumbled before poking at his pasta and eating it angrily.

“Dudeee” Carson said slowly. “What’s up with you? And who was that, she was fine”

I smacked Carson in the back of the head while Jaxon glared daggers at him.

“None of your business” Jaxon said, before getting up from the table and walking out of the cafeteria

“What’s his deal?” Carson turned to me and asked.

I shrugged. “I don’t exactly know, but I think he likes her, and not just as a play toy.”

Carson looked interested. “Really?” he asked sceptically.

“Yea” I nodded and finished off the last of my yogurt parfait and chugging my bottle of orange juice.

“I’ll go talk to him” Carson said while getting up from the table and grabbing both his and Jaxon’s left behind tray of food. “By the way, are you still coming over after school to help me?” he asked turning his head to look down at me.

“Yup, why?” I asked.

“Just making sure, I’ll catch you after school. Meet me by my car after last bell” he said before walking out of the cafeteria with almost the whole female populations eyes trailing after him.

 I shrugged before looking back at Kylie and Zayn who were both raising their eyebrows at me. “What?” I asked them while piling up my garbage onto my tray.

“Nothing” they said simultaneously.

I rolled my eyes while the first bell rang so we stood up and headed for math class.

Sorry about the lack of Carson and Lexi time in this chapter. I had to cut it off here otherwise the chapter would have been too long.

Next Update: By Friday for sure… I have two soccer games this week so when I have the time I will definitely be writing the next chapter
