Destiny changes in moments.
Destiny changes in moments... It's one of the bitter truths. Fourteen years ago, Shivaay was her destiny, but now everything has changed because of that incident. Even though Anika wants to forget everything, she can't forget the bitter past, where her trust and love for Shivaay were shattered into pieces.
After they both confessed their feelings, Anika's life took a pleasant turn on what had been a tasteless road. She started to love every moment she spent with Shivaay. He made her enjoy life by staying by her side. Their deep affection for each other made it difficult to stay apart, both physically and emotionally. They were bonded and had become one. But, as I said before, it was just a pleasant turn, and unfortunately, it was temporary.
Anika and Shivaay decided to pursue higher education abroad, so they had to undergo general checkups for their visas. They did the checkups separately. The Oberois didn't know that both Anika and Shivaay had applied to the same college, nor did they know about their relationship. But Shivaay's brothers did.
"Ms. Rao, you're two months pregnant," the doctor informed Anika, leaving her shocked.
"Preg... what...?" she stammered in disbelief.
"Yes, Ms. Rao, you're pregnant," the doctor clarified, but Anika couldn't process anything beyond that. She walked out and, in no time, tried to call Shivaay to tell him the news, but he didn't answer. She impatiently tried several times, but he never picked up.
"Ani... I'm at the dining table with my family, can't pick up the call," a message popped up from Shivaay.
"But... it's urgent... please pick up just once..." Anika texted back.
"Okay... wait," Shivaay replied, and five minutes later, he called her back. But for Anika, those five minutes felt like five hours.
"Hello... Shivaay," she said impatiently when she answered.
"Ani... what happened?" he asked, sensing the urgency in her voice.
"Shivaay..." she began to cry in fear.
"Anika... are you crying?" he asked with concern.
"Shivaay... I'm... I'm pregnant," she uttered through her sobs.
"What?" he asked, his tone suddenly tense.
"The doctor said I'm pregnant... I don't know what to do... I'm scared..." she continued, speaking rapidly, but he didn't respond.
"Shivaay, are you there?" Anika asked.
"Ah... yeah, I'm here," he replied, but his voice was low.
"Shivaay... I'm scared," she cried helplessly.
"Pregnant... how... what... what did you do?" he stammered.
"What did I do?" she asked, hurt by his words.
"Anika, I didn't mean that... Anika, are you there?" he tried to explain, but his earlier words had already pierced her heart. She ended the call, but he kept trying to reach her.
"Anika, please... I didn't mean that... pick up the phone," he pleaded in a message, but she ignored it. She switched off her phone as it filled up with his apologetic messages.
Anika rushed home, where she found her parents peacefully having lunch at the dining table. If her parents had been like others, she might have been afraid to tell them the news. But in her case, she didn't feel anything while revealing it to them.
"Maa, Papa," she called out.
They both raised their heads, surprised to hear her call them "Maa" and "Papa," though they didn't show it on their faces.
"I'm... I'm pregnant," she said without guilt or hesitation.
"What?" they asked in unison, her mother dropping her spoon in shock.
"You heard me. I'm pregnant," she repeated coldly. This time, her parents stood up from their chairs.
"Anika, if this is a joke, stop it," her mother said sternly.
"I'm not joking, Mom. I'm two months pregnant with Sh..." Anika stopped mid-sentence.
"Why did you stop, Anika? TELL US WHOSE CHILD YOU'RE CARRYING," her father shouted, startling her.
"ANIKA, YOUR FATHER IS ASKING YOU SOMETHING!" her mother yelled.
"Shivaay..." she said, bowing her head.
"SHIVAAY? YOU'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT SHIVAAY SINGH OBEROI, ARE YOU?" her mother screamed.
"You guessed right. He's the father of my child," she replied, shaking them both to their core.
"HOW DARE YOU? I WARNED YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM HIM!" her father roared, but Anika remained silent.
"ANIKA, AREN'T YOU ASHAMED TO TELL THIS TO YOUR OWN PARENTS?" her mother demanded, shaking her by the shoulders.
"What about you? Will you be ashamed when I ask you the same question?" Anika retorted, leaving her mother speechless.
"Are you ashamed of having affairs with random men after marriage? Did you think I didn't know? I understood it when I was eight years old, so stop pretending to be a saint," Anika shot back, leaving her mother in shock. Her father couldn't contain his anger and slapped her so hard she fell to the floor.
"How dare you speak like this?" her father shouted.
"HOW DARE YOU SLAP ME? DIDN'T I SAY I'M PREGNANT? IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY CHILD BECAUSE OF YOU, I WON'T SPARE YOU!" she yelled and stormed off to her room.
Time passed, and her mind kept racing, but she was sure of one thing: she would not abort her child. She stressed that point to herself. She had already started to depend on her unborn child for everything. Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.
"I want to be alone... GO AWAY!" she yelled from inside.
"Anika... we need to talk," her mother said softly from the other side.
"I have nothing to say to you!" she yelled back.
"Anika, please... I'm sorry for slapping you... I shouldn't have done that... please open the door," her father pleaded, surprising her. She couldn't resist opening the door. To her shock, her parents hugged her the moment she did.
"Wha... what's going on?" she asked as they led her to the bed and sat beside her.
"What happened? Why are you acting so strange?" she asked in confusion.
"Anika..." her father sighed heavily, and she curiously looked at him.
"We went to the Oberois and told them about your condition," her father began.
"No way," Anika said in disbelief.
"Anika, I swear on your mother... we went," he insisted, tears welling up in his eyes. Her mother patted her shoulder to confirm it was true.
"You really went... for me?" she asked, and they nodded with teary eyes.
"What did they say?" Anika asked, but they didn't respond for a moment.
"What did they say, Papa?" she asked again.
"They... they don't believe it..." her father finally said.
"I don't understand. What don't they believe?" she asked, confused.
"They don't believe that the child you're carrying is Shivaay's. They doubt you... so they asked for a DNA test," her father said, closing his eyes, afraid to face her. But Anika couldn't believe their words.
"What did Shivaay do when you told him?" she asked to verify their story.
"He stood there silently... he didn't say anything," her mother said.
"Nice try, Mr. and Mrs. Rao. Do you expect me to believe this story?" she asked angrily.
"Anika, believe us," her father begged.
"How could he stay silent? You're lying. If you went there, you'd know how much he loves me and how serious he is about this relationship. So stop this nonsense!" she shouted.
"We swear, Anika... this is what happened. If you don't believe us, call him and ask," her mother urged.
"Fine, I will! I'll prove you wrong," she said, switching on her phone and calling Shivaay. On the fourth ring, he picked up, and she put the call on speaker.
"Hello," he answered in a low voice.
"Shivaay," she called out.
"Ah," he replied.
"Shivaay, my parents are saying they went to your house and told you about my pregnancy. Is that true?" she asked.
"Ah," he replied.
"They're saying your family asked for a DNA test to prove you're the father. Is that true?" she asked, wiping away her tears.
There was no response.
"Shivaay, I asked you something," she repeated impatiently.
"Ah," he answered after a long pause.
"Shivaay..." she whispered, feeling weak inside.
"Shivaay, you stood by my side, right?" she asked, but there was still no response.
"Shivaay, your silence is killing me. Please say something... please!" she begged, but he remained silent.
"Shivaay, don't do this to me. I know you must have been shocked by the news... but please don't let anyone question my character... please, I'm begging you..." she cried, but again, no response.
"Shivaay, you're the only man in my life. Why are you doing this to me?" she sobbed, but he said nothing.
"Shivaay, stop it... please... Okay,
I'll ask you directly: do you have any doubts?" she asked, wiping her tears, but as usual, there was no reply.
"Shivaay... please say something..." she pleaded.
"Ah," he finally whispered, then hung up. Anika couldn't handle the betrayal, and in no time, she fainted. Her father caught her before she hit the ground.
