Chapter Two

GEORGIE'S POV

The horse, Alma, was rearing straight at me and Lyndy. I did what I could only think of.

I flung myself back towards the barn, covering Lyndy with my arms.

" Georgie!" Amy screamed.

It was all over in a couple of seconds.

" Are you okay? Is my baby alright?" Were the first two questions my aunt asked me.

" Yeah, I'm fine," I replied. " Just a little shaken up." Thankfully, Lyndy didn't seem hurt but a little shaken up , like me. I could tell she as about to cry so I handed her to Amy.

" I'm so sorry, Amy," Sandy said.

" It's fine, Sandy, none of us knew this would happen," Amy spoke over the growing louder wails.

" Should I come back a different day?" Her client asked.

Amy was silent for a minute, and I took this as an opportunity to barge in. Well. not barge, but interrrupt.

" I could work with Alma!" I blurted out.

Amy tilted her head at me, a expression I could decipher painted on her face.

" It's a lot of work, Georgie," She pointed out. " I don't know that Sandy would let you work with such a dangerous horse. And plus, it's not as if Lyndy will be crying all the time," She cast a glance at Sandy, who shook her head.

" I'm sorry, Georgie. It's too dangerous. Alma is VERY unpredictable."

It just wasn't fair. How was I supposed to grow in my horsemanship skills if I couldn't work with a horse?

" Ok, not this time, I guess," Amy ended the discussion.

" I think I'll just leave Alma here, if that's alright with you, Amy," Sandy suggested.

Amy nodded. " Okay. You can come back this time tomorrow, if that works for you."

Sandy nodded, and handed the reins to Amy. " See you tomorrow then." She walked to her truck, got in, and drove away.

Amy turned to me and sighed. " I know you want to get a a good start on your horsemanship skills, Georgie," She told me. " Maybe another time."

I nodded, feeling downcast. " You go take care of Lyndy." I suggested. " I can muck out the stalls."

" Thanks," Amy said quietly.

And then she left me alone, looking at the cloud of dust left by Sandy's truck.
