-Chapter Nine-
Back in the Rockclan camp...
Fierceheart walked back into the camp, happy to be home again. She was thinking about everything that had happened earlier that night. She was smirking a little bit when she remembered the 'Quartzpelt situation' and then tried not to laugh at herself, seeing her reflection in a puddle.
Fernfang went over to the fresh-kill pile for a second and grabbed a mouse, slowly walking over to the Warrior's den. She walked into the den and curled up in the back corner. She took a bite of her mouse and then started thinking about Quartzpelt. 'Why in the bright moon would that numbskull have a crush on me? This is the first time I have ever even seen him. I really hope he does not continue to be more annoying. I never want to have a mate or have kits, so next time I see him I will tell him that. If I break his heart then thats his problem. Then at least I won't have his starry eyes on me again. So yay.' Fernfang thought. After she finish the mouse, she brought the little skeleton out of the den and threw it into a nearby bush. She walked back into the den and curled into a little ball with her tail draped over her nose, and slowly drifted off into a calm sleep.
Swiftclaw walked into the clearing behind Fierceheart. She started walking over to the Medicine Cat's den. She watched Fernfang go into the Warrior's den on her way past, then stopped to watch Fierceheart start smirking at a puddle. "Uh...hi. Why are you smirking at that puddle like you just fatally insulted it?" Swiftclaw asked, suspiciously watching her best friend for literally no reason. "...Huh? Oh. No reason. I was just remembering earlier tonight." Fierceheart replied. "Nice. I was gonna go check on Softjump to see if she decided names for her new kits! Do you wanna come with me? I think she had four kits, right? I think so. Let's go check, I'm super excited!" Swiftclaw meowed energetically.
Fierceheart and her best friend moved off towards the Medicine Cat's den to check in on the new mother cat. They walked over and poked their heads into the den. "Hey Moonpelt? Is it okay if we check on Softjump? We want to know the names of her kits!" Fierceheart asked. Moonpelt emerged from her small den inside an old stump and looked at the she-cats nosily poking into her den. "Yes, you may check on her and ask the names of her kits and then if you want to you can bring her some fresh kill. She is still very tired, so don't stay too long, please." Moonpelt answered the two. "Yay! Thank you!" Both she-cats exclaimed.
Softjump was sleeping in the warm Medicine Cat den, some ferns gently brushing her nose. The sweet earthy smell lingering around her. She heard Moonpelt mewing to some other cats quietly. She lifted her head to see who it was and saw a slight glimpse of two she-cats. She sniffed the air to try to figure out who the new cats were. "Is that Fierceheart and Swiftclaw, Moonpelt?" She waited for a reply. "You are correct!" Mewed Fierceheart happily trotting into Softjumps temporary den. "Hi! How are your kits Softjump? And how are you? Did you decide the names of the kits yet?" Swiftclaw asked excitedly. Fierceheart moved slowly over to the still tired new mother. Softjump re-adjusted so that they could both see the kits. "Aww!" Both she-cats purred quietly. The kits squirmed a little bit, nuzzling into their smiling mother's warm belly fur. "Four beautiful kits. There are three she-kits and one tom kit. I have decided two of the names but the other two... I wanted you both to name them!" Softjump announced. "Wait really?!" Exclaimed the two extremely happy she-cats. "Yes really! I want you to name two of them. I'm excited to see what you both choose!" Softjump answered. "I have named the tom Blazingkit, because he has a stripe of orange-yellow on his sides. And the smallest she-kit I have named Willowkit in honor of my mother Whisperwillow." Softjump said. "The name Blazingkit is so cool! Thats my favorite name of the two." Fierceheart said happily. "Lets think of some names for the other two kits Swift!" Fierceheart said to her friend. "Would you like some prey or anything? We could grab you a rabbit if you like!" Swiftclaw asked Softjump. "Sure, I would love some food." She answered.
"I'll go grab some food for you. Hey Moonpelt, do you want some prey too?" Fierceheart added. "Um...sure. Thank you." Moonpelt answered, mildly distracted while orginising some herbs. "Hey! What am I? Chopped liver?!" Swiftclaw yowled in a fake annoyed tone. "No. You are Swiftclaw, the friend of a very much weird psychotic cat. If you want...I can get you some prey. Or you can just eat your own paw." Fierceheart mewed in a ridiculously sassy tone, once again trying not to laugh at herself. "I'll take some prey. Please. Thank you." Swiftclaw said to Fierceheart, not knowing how else to answer. Fierceheart left the den and grabbed a rabbit from the prey pile along with two mice. She dropped off the prey then went back to the pile to grab a snake for herself. She came back into the den, the snake in her mouth. She threw the snake at Swiftclaw because why not. She saw the snake flying at her face and ran out of the den at top speed. Fierceheart died of laughter and called to her friend to come back. "I want to think of the names for these kits then get some good rest. Now stop being a coward and get back here!!" Fierceheart meowed. "Okay! Okay!! My Starclan you are...just...so...Fierceheart." Swiftclaw retorted, no other good insults coming to mind.
After a few moments of thinking and brainstorming they both had thought of their names.
"Would you like to go first?" Fierceheart asked. "Sure! Here is my name for your cream orange and grey kit Softjump, tell me if you like it! The name I have chosen is: Autumnkit. What do you think?" Swiftclaw looked at the young queen waiting for her reply. "Oh...wow. That name is beautiful. That was the name of a cat my grandmother met a long, long time ago. I love that name, its perfect! Thank you Swiftclaw! What name have you chosen Fierceheart?" Softjump purred happily. "Well...the name I chose you might have heard before. Sorry if you don't like it. So the name I chose is for your last kit; the large grey cream and white she-kit. I chose the name: Fiercekit." Fierceheart annouced her name. "Wow. Sooooooo original Fierceheart. Great job. I've never heard that name in my life." Swiftclaw said in a very sarcastic tone, giving her friend an eyeroll. "Actually I like that name. I know its yours right now but then maybe when Fiercekit is older you can mentor her, Fierceheart!" Softjump mewed happily. "Thanks for the names you two chose! I'm going to eat my prey and then sleep, and so should you both. Good night and thank you again for the beautiful names and prey!" Softjump meowed in a tired tone.
After the she-cats left Softjump called over to Moonpelt. "Thank you for taking such good care of me. It means a lot." Softjump said to Moonpelt kindly. Moonpelt walked over to the other cat and sat down for a moment. "Its my pleasure. This is why I love being a medicine cat. I get to help other cats! Good night and sleep well." Moonpelt walked to her den. Softjump yawned and fell asleep.
Fierceheart and Swiftclaw quickly ate their prey, chatting about the new kits and what they were going to do the next day. After they both finished eating, they walked over to the Warriors den and found their sleeping spots in the back of the den. They saw Fernfang curled up in her corner sleeping soundly. There were about twelve other warriors in the den including the trio. Swiftclaw washed herself quickly and Fierceheart went out of the den again just before she fell asleep, to watch the moon for a few moments.
Fierceheart looked up at the moon watching the clouds move smoothly and slowly across the sky. She looked over at the entrance to the camp to see who was on night watch tonight. She was searching the opening trying to see who was there and then realized that there was no one. She walked out of the den inspecking the opening to the camp to see if there was anyone there. Suddenly there was a movement off to her right. She jumped, then stared into the darkness, sniffing the warm summer night air to see what the unkown being was.
She saw the 'thing' turn around and look at her with surprised neon light blue eyes. She stared for a moment in shock then said: "Quartzpelt?!"
