Chapter 13

A/N: "These are the animals talking" Also I know in the movie Roa already had her calf, here I want Ronal and Roa to have their babies a bit closer together.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You were still worried about their reactions but, that was overridden by the childish fascination of seeing the tulkuns up close and personal. You have heard all of the Metkayina talk about the Tulkuns coming but, apparently, they arrived a couple of weeks earlier than expected therefore no celebration was taking place. You couldn't help the weird feeling in your gut, why would they come early? Roa was punctual and loved all of them as she was their guide as well as their songwriter so why now? You had all of these worries but, seeing and hearing everyone's joy you couldn't bring yourself to talk about such negativity. You were still being pulled by Ronal and Tonowari all the way to the beach and into the water. That's when they finally let you go to greet their spiritual brother and sister respectively. You watched wading in waist-deep water as all of them whooped, talked, smiled, and laughed. It was a beautiful sight but, it didn't stop the pit in your stomach. Something wasn't right.

"Y/N COME TO MEET MY SPIRIT BROTHER!" You jumped when Aonung grabbed your hand and dragged you to meet his spirit brother and wasn't surprised to see Neteyam already there, that meant Lo'ak was with Tsireya, and Kiri and Tuk were with Roxto. Neteyam gave you a hug as a greeting, as you were introduced to Aonung's brother who was as prideful and playful as the boy. It was endearing.

"You must be Y/N. Aonung was telling me all about you."

You smiled from ear to ear not bothering to resist the urge to hug the Tulkun who rumbled in happiness. You couldn't help it when it came to animals, you had no filter and well most animals didn't mind you so your self-control was almost non-existent when it came to them.

"I'm so glad, I do really care about Aonung so along with everyone here I have been making sure he is okay." Aonung was sitting on top of him with Neteyam so you had a moment of privacy with the Tulkun.

"He told me how you and Toruk Makto used to be of the sky people but chose to live here with us. That is very brave, selfless and I commend you for it."

This kind of maturity was not expected but, then again they do live longer than Na'vi and Na'vi could live up to 180 years old. You couldn't say anything to the young Tulkun except to hug him and he seemed to have smiled back at you. You removed yourself so you can go back up for air and once you did, you made your way to Tsireya who had Lo'ak and Tuk surprisingly.

"Y/N! Y/N! Come! She has been dying to meet you!" No time was wasted as you were pulled under watching as the young Tulkun was as energetic as Tsireya and was playing with you, rumbling happily when you reciprocated.

"You are as sweet as she said you were. It's nice to finally meet you."

You felt yourself blush not sure how to respond to such praise so you did the only thing you could do: hug the Tulkun in greeting and pet her as far as you could reach, placing a gentle kiss above her eye.

"Thank you. I really care about her. She's so sweet and I'm glad to have met you as well." You stayed with her a bit, the uneasy feeling in your chest and stomach loosening but, not fully going away. Maybe Roa or Tonowari's spirit brother can fill you in or give you some sort of insight. You bid Tsirey'a tulkun a see you later as you went up for breath and swam over to where you saw Tonowari with his Tulkun. You got intercepted by a baby Tulkun who swam around you in circles, nudging you playfully and you returned the gestures until it disappeared and you finished your trek to Tonowari. You glanced in the distance to see that Roxto and Kiri were in their own world and you were happy for the two of them.

"So this is Y/N"

You almost screamed not realizing you had bumped into Tonowari's Tulkun having to go up and breathe and then take a deep gulp of air and go back down. You ignored the way they both looked at you amused so opting to ignore Tonowari- you made sure he knew you were ignoring him- to talk to his Tulkun who definitely had his personality. "Yes, I'm Y/N. I was excited to meet you and bumped right into you, my apologies." You left your hands on him rubbing all over the skin happy when he closed his eyes in bliss

"Tonowari, I would like to talk to your darling in private for a minute."

You ignored the nickname opting to send a look at Tonowari who was confused but, listened and went somewhere and your attention went back to the Tulkun. Thank God you can hold your breath for a few minutes at a time instead of 30 seconds like you did when you first came here.

"Your heart is racing fast. Relax. I have come to inform you by directions of Roa that the sky people have returned."

The tightness in your chest became too much as all the air was expelled out of your body and you had to shoot up to get more air. You knew it, you fucking knew it. That horrible icky feeling in your chest came back tenfold and you had to will yourself to calm down and let the Tulkun finish what he had to say. You took another breath and went back down to listen to everything else he said.

"I am sorry to have told you so suddenly. Roa wanted you to have the task of knowing. She feels that you would know when to tell everyone. That is why we came early because we must leave as soon as possible."

You were glad that you were underwater because it hid your tears as you signed back frantically glad no one was paying you any mind.

"Please, you guys must go another way. Do not migrate your usual way. The sky people are very violent and will kill you guys for the stuff in your head. It makes them stop aging. Please. You guys can't die, it will cause heartbreak. You must leave immediately, hide and be careful." You were desperate, hugging the gentle giant, the idea of him or any of them dying hurt you. You couldn't let them die.

"Roa was right to trust you. You were blessed by the hands of Eywa herself."

You had no idea what that meant but, you hugged the Tulkun as tight as possible just in time for Tonowari to come back and for you to need more air now. You just needed to talk to Roa who was not too far from here. You couldn't meet the eyes of Tonowari knowing you wouldn't be able to hide it from him and he will worry and bug you until you told him. You went to the top for more breath just in case and went back under swimming your way over to where Roa and Ronal were. You saw Ronal's smile from here as she placed her hands on her swollen belly communicating with Roa who also was pregnant with a calf that she waited for many cycles to have. The idea of Roa dying and losing the calf was too much for your heart to bear. The two must have noticed you and Roa told Ronal to leave for a minute because Ronal stared at you with a blank face before swimming over to Tonowari and his spiritual brother.

"There goes our little blessing."

You didn't understand all of these pet names but, you weren't about to correct the creatures of wisdom. You moved all around her, touching her fins, her head, her eyes and even lightly caressing her belly where her calf was moving and due any day now. You couldn't do that to her. You couldn't watch this beautiful creature who had so much love to give, lose her life to selfish sky people and the recoms. "Roa, you have been blessed with the beauty of being a mother. I will not let these sky people take away your life for their own selfish reasons. Go in the opposite direction of migration, hide, take canals, and come up to breathe when only necessary. The Metkayina love all of you more than anything, you need to come back to them."

"Do not fret little blessing. We all plan on going and it is up to you to explain what is happening. I trust you. Today is a beautiful day, so save it for tomorrow. They will understand. Eywa has her eye on you and she always has. She will listen and help you, and only you. You're her child."

You didn't understand what any of that means because Eywa does not have favorites, you all were her children but, clearly, the Tulkun saw and believed in something past your understanding so all you can do is nod. Roa hummed budding her head with closed eyes as you embraced her the best you can. She hummed a tune you never heard before and it was beautiful. It was short and quick.

"Whenever you feel the world is too much, sing that. Consider it my gift to you. Now go and see Ranari before his eyes fall out of his head"

Roa gently maneuvered you gently in Ranari's direction who turned quickly at being caught. You smiled gently, running your hand across Roa's body making your way to Ranari ignoring the hard stare Ronal was sending you. You knew they were going to hound you but, you made a promise that you intend on keeping. You made your way over to Ranari and his Tulkun with conviction opting to ignore Ranari since he wants to be an ass

"I had a feeling you were coming over here. Ranari wouldn't shut up about you."

You ignored the indignance of Ranari as you conversed with his Tulkun sharing pleasantries "Yeah, prince charming over here doesn't want to talk to me for whatever reason maybe you can convince him?" You really liked this Tulkun and it seemed the feeling was mutual as he tapped you with his front flipper and hummed. It seemed it was too much for Ranari because you felt his hands on your waist and hips propelling the two of you up for air.

"You think you're so cute huh precious." You tried to be serious but, teasing him was too fun

"Aww, you think I'm cute? That's the nicest thing you said to me all week." He clicked his tongue, his hands squeezing your waist and trailing down to your hips where they rested. It had you tongue-tied the level of confidence he had to hold you with a touch of arrogance to pull you fully against him.

"You want me to talk to you, right? Fine, you win. Tonight I'll be by the mangrove forest we can stay there to talk." You squinted at him in trepidation trying to figure out why he was so angry with you.

"You have no right to be mad at me." He had a snarl on his face and he leaned forward nipping your ear before whispering.

"You have no right to do the things that you do to me." With that said he squeezed your hips almost painfully before letting go and pulling away fully allowing you to come to terms with whatever the hell just transpired. Your brain and body had felt one too many emotions today and didn't know what to do. That's when Ranari decided to come back and grab you bringing you up to the surface where his Tulkun decided you can sit on him for lounging. It was nice the view even when Ranari decided to sit next to you, his tail laying across your back comfortably you didn't mind. A few other people did.
