𝑫𝒀𝑳𝑨𝑵 𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑹𝑬 is eleven years old when he decides to become a surgeon. After shooting his first doe in the greened woods at sunrise, tears welling slowly in his eyes at the sight of the dead deer laid in a pasture, his hand slipped. His father, proud of his son's first step toward becoming a man, quickly found himself in the same position of the doe, his hand cradling his son's hat at Dylan's earlier request.

He had turned a little too quickly, he later figured. The shock of killing an animal for the first time had hit him, and he just wanted to look at his dad's proud face, but his hand slipped. It sent a bullet into the right ventricle of his heart and he was dead three minutes later.

Dylan and his father were declared missing for 46 hours. A search party was sent into the woods per the frantic request of Vivian Verre, who screamed in horror at the sight of her son sat still by her husband's dead body.

He could still remember a stag running away at the gunshot that killed his first doe.

Dylan didn't speak again until he was thirteen, instead taking a special interest in how he could have saved his father, how his death could have been avoided. His mother was more than ecstatic when he decided to take a Pre-Med track at Averrett University, even more so when he went to Med-school. By the time he became an attending in cardiothoracic surgery, Vivian Verre couldn't care less about what her son was up to, and vice versa.

When he gets a call with pleasantries uplifting his surgical skills and a job offer in Seattle, the answer is obvious.

Leave the stag in Virginia and try to start over at Seattle Grace.

⁰⁰     oddly enough, i've also taken a lot of inspiration from bbc's hannibal for this fic and im so excited to combine two of my favorite things right now.  obviously, grey's & hannibal are two very different shows     but i'm forcing some common ground between them. you'll notice some themes heavily inspired by hannibal & i'm so ready to create something from it.

⁰⁰     i've been rewatching grey's recently & i've discovered a new found love for derek shepherd. i was trying to find some fics where he had a male love interest but there's slim to none, so i decided to write one myself!! dylan is heavily inspired by will graham & myself whereas beth is heavily inspired by one of my friends who is in love with george o'malley. i genuinely am so excited to write for this.
