73 | i'll be ready for the funeral

Jordan approached the door of his dorm after hearing a knock. He opened it and was surprised to see Josie standing there. "Good morning." She smiled. "Morning, Jo." The Luna witch smiled back.

"Look I wanted to uh... ask you something." The witch began as Jordan stopped, "Sure, whats up?" He asked her. The Saltzman seemed nervous before she decided to come clean, "I... I still really like you Jordy. And I'm so sorry that I messed everything up..." She trailed off, trying to catch herself before she continued to spiral. "If you still feel the same... would you like to be my boyfriend?"

Jordan took Josie's hands gently in his own, "I really like you too, Jo. I would love to give our relationship another try." He decided, as Josie looked up at the Montgomery as she smiled brightly. "Really?" She asked, almost like she couldn't believe what she was hearing. Jordan nodded as he too was smiling brightly, "Really!"

Josie felt relief wash over her, before she leant forward and placed a gentle kiss on Jordan's lips. The boy kissed back and threw his arms around the girl, bringing her closer. They broke apart, but Josie leant her forehead against Jordan's, as she couldn't contain her bright smile.

Monica groaned into her pillow, feeling quite hungover. Lizzie laughed at her girlfriend, while she was standing in front of her mirror, adding accessories to her outfit. "You had way too much to drink last night." She pointed out. "No shit." Monica grumbled in response.

Lizzie laughed again before she approached her girlfriend, and planter a quick kiss on shoulder, since she couldn't reach her face as it was shoved into a pillow. "Maybe a shower will help you to feel better." She suggested. "Maybe.." Monica mumbled, before rolling over.

The vampire was about to suggest that Lizzie joined her, but an announcement suddenly blared through the P.A system surprising them.

"Can all students report to the assembly hall? And wear something formal, yet dark."

Monica and Lizzie shared a confused look. "Why did that sound like Ruby's voice?" Monica asked, wondering if she were still drunk. "I have no idea... come on, let's go and find out what that is about..." Lizzie decided.

❤︎

"What.. is going on?" Hope asked, looking at her girlfriend with a confused expression. Monica, Lizzie, Jordan and Josie stood behind Hope as they all looked just as confused.

Ruby stood behind the podium, wearing a black pants suit and black heels, as her hair in bouncy curls. There were two coffins on either side of her, one with a photoframe standing upright, with a photo of Rafael, while the other had a photoframe standing upright with a photo of Landon. Despite one coffin having a jar of ashes, inside and the other being empty, the sentiment was there.

"Well, I'm throwing my brothers a funeral, I thought it was kind of obvious." Ruby spoke up, motioning to the coffins beside her. "Sit. I set up chairs for everyone." She added.

Hope approached Ruby and placed her hands on her shoulders. "Babe, are you okay?" She asked, feeling like the hybrid's demeanour was totally off. "I'm fine. Actually, I have never been better. But my brothers deserve a funeral, don't you agree?" She asked.

"You turned off your emotions.." Hope came to the realisation, her face faltering. Ruby nodded, "Ding ding ding, you're correct babe." She said, taking a step away from the Mikealson, to place flowers on both of the coffins.

"You know.. Rafeal isn't dead." Hope reminded Ruby, as she tried to be optimistic. "Mhm.. yeah. But you see, you couldn't find a permanent way to keep my dear twin alive." Ruby began, "Rafael can't leave the prison world, because he'll die.. so technically he is as good as dead." She stated.

Hope went to speak, but the Waithe pressed her finger against her lips. "Ssh. Go sit down. The service will start soon." Ruby insisted, as Hope turned around, looking shocked yet concerned.

"What the hell are we going to do?" Lizzie asked, as herself, Monica, Jordan and Josie were in Alaric's office, facing their headmaster. "She has already threatened to kill quite a lot of students." Josie added, as Ruby had nearly snapped Jed's neck for trying to challenge her.

"I think we should give her this day." Monica suggested, as the others frowned at her. "What? She is a serious danger to everyone right now!" Alaric insisted, as they didn't know what the hybrid was capable of.

"I know.. but she just lost both of her brothers!" Monica replied. "Give her this day, to process her losses.. and for everyone to pay their respects, then we'll act."

Everyone fell silent before Hope said, "I agree.." With that the group looked to her, with surprise. "Ru has just gone through so much... we'll let her have this one day." Alaric nodded, "But tonight, after the service, we'll put her in the cellar and try to bring her back." He decided.

"Would anybody like to say a few words?" Ruby asked wearing a tight lipped smile. She had just finished saying her eulogy for both Rafael and Landon. With silence being the response she received, the service came to an end.

Everyone dispersed in different directions. Some students hung around and chatted, while others took turns to silently say their goodbyes to Rafael and Landon.

Time passed and drinks were handed out, as the students drank in honour of the boys. Ruby sat on the corner of the stage, her legs crossed as she sipped on a glass of champagne.

The moonlight began to shine into the school, indicating that the night was coming to an end. Monica glanced at Jordan and eyed him, deciding it was time to put the plan in motion.

They'd only learnt very recently that Ruby was a ripper, during the battle of the Malivore monsters. Monica had devised a plan, that used this knowledge to an advantage.

Jordan approached Ruby. "Cool fit, Ruby." He said, catching the hybrid's attention. "I know. I've decided that black is my colour." The Waithe decided before Jordan's face softened. "Hey.. I'm really sorry for your loss.. Rafael and Landon meant the world to you." He said.

Ruby didn't say anything, as her expression seemed completely unfazed. Jordan knew somewhere that the Waithe still felt for her brothers, because otherwise why would she have held a funeral for them?

The Montgomery then took a step forward, and embraced the Waithe suddenly. "Ruby... you're one of my best friends. If there's anything I can do for you, please let me know." He insisted. Ruby just laughed humourlessly, "Spare it. The part of me that cares, is dead." She began before she smirked. "As you're about to be..."

Ruby's eyes turned bloodshot, as veins popped out from under her eyes. She let out a hiss before she sunk her teeth into Jordan's neck, beginning to feed off of him with the intention of not stopping until she had every drop of blood from the boy. Students around gasped and watched in horror. "Jordan!" Josie cried out.

Ruby suddenly hissed and pulled away from Jordan suddenly, while she felt her entire body sting in immense pain. "What the hell!?" She managed to cry out before she fell unconscious and limp in Jordan's arms.

Jordan felt relieved that drinking a beverage with vervain and wolfsbane wasn't all for nothing, because honestly the drink tasted like feet.

Ruby finally became conscious again, and found herself on a familiar, cold cement floor. Recognising that she was in the transition cellar, she quickly sat up, her eyes meeting those of her girlfriend and friends, who were standing outside the cell. "Hm.. you outsmarted me. I'm actually surprised." Ruby confessed. "What can I say, it's not hard to tempt a ripper." Monica spoke up.

The hybrid looked to Jordan, who had a bandage over his neck. "Hm. To be continued, Jordy. Maybe when the vervain and wolfsbane is out of your system though..." She taunted. Josie frowned at Ruby, "Over my dead body! She retorted. "Oh no— don't go all Dark Josie on me now!" Ruby teased as she held up her hands up dramatically.

"That's a low blow.." Lizzie rolled her eyes as Ruby just smirked at her, "Mhm, but you like it when Monica goes low.. right?" She asked, obviously meaning something else, as Lizzie glared, growing frustrated. "Stop talking.." Monica growled, growing impatient with the Waithe's comments.

"Stop!" Hope demanded, as she stood between Monica, Lizzie, Josie and Jordan. Ruby laughed humourlessly as she took a step forward, towards the bars of the cell. "Sweet little Hopey, you know you could join me... now that your vampire side is activated." She suggested, with a wink.

"You managed to save yourself with your vampire blood... you couldn't save Landon though." She stated, as everyone grew angry at this comment.

"I guess I should thank you for that.. you let the last of my family die... and I turned it all off, letting me reach my full potential." The hybrid says, trying to taunt the group more. Hope tried to hold back tears, as she had already blamed herself for Landon's death as it was... but now she blamed herself for Ruby turning off her humanity, as well.

"Shut the fuck up!" Monica finally snapped, "This isn't you... but don't worry, we're gonna get the real you back." She declared. "Hang tight... not like you can go anywhere anyway." Lizzie huffed, before herself and Monica left the cellar. Jordan and Josie each took one last glance at Ruby, before they left too.

Ruby looked back up at Hope. "We'll get you back... I won't stop until we do.... I can't... I can't lose you." The Mikealson spoke, as Ruby had a tight lined expression. Hope turned around to leave. "What.... You're not going to let me out?" The pinkette asked innocently. "Don't you love me?"

Hope stopped for a moment, as she found herself clenching her fists with annoyance. "It's because I love you, that I'm doing this." She exhaled, before finally exiting the cellar to leave Ruby alone.
