53 | it will all be painfully clear soon enough

Before Cynthia headed back to Arizona, she asked that she could have a fun filled day with Jordan and Monica in Mystic falls.

They started off the day with a morning hike, to the falls. It was beautiful, calming and graceful... to Cynthia and Jordan perhaps. Monica found nature beautiful, but she didn't really enjoy hikes... not when she had superspeed. Who needs to walk slowly?

The vampire had decided to use her superspeed to beat the pair to the falls, but Cynthia had managed to stop her and used a spell on her, to slow her movements. Monica ended up being the last one to reach the waterfall.

After their hike, they went to the Mystic Grill, where they ordered breakfast and most importantly for Monica, coffee.

Jordan had ordered a pile of pancakes, and looked incredibly excited by how tall the stack was on the plate when it arrived. Cynthia had ordered eggs benedict, her all time favourite breakfast food. Monica, had ordered a large cappuccino, with an extra shot of coffee. She had fed that morning, and didn't want any food.

After breakfast, they walked through some of the few stores in the township. Monica found a fair amount of clothes she liked in some stores, but knowing a lot of the town members were on vervain, she knew she wouldn't be able to get away with taking any. She had been eyeing off a beautiful pastel pink leather handbag, but when she looked at the price tag, she grimaced.

Jordan on the other hand, bought a couple of vinyl records. "Have I showed you my record player?" He asked his sister, as they left the music store. Monica shook her head. "I'll have to show you when I get back." He said with an excited look.

After shopping the trio didn't have much else to do. Cynthia offered to take them out for lunch, but neither the witch or vampire were hungry.

Back in Cynthia's sedan, they arrived at the gates of the Salvatore school. Jordan smiled brightly at his Mum. "Thanks for today Mum... it was actually pretty fun." He insisted. Cynthia smiled, before she leant over to kiss her sons cheek. "Take care dear and—"

"No more dark magic. I know."

Cynthia's face faltered, "I'm serious about that Jordan. The younger witch nodded, "I promise you that I won't do dark magic... unless it is an absolute must. As in life or death." The Monroe didn't know whether she was comforted by that or not, as life or death situations weren't exactly rare in the Salvatore school it seemed.

"I love you." Jordan said before he exited the car, seeing Josie on the other side of the gates, giving him a wave. Something seemed off about her, but Cynthia and Monica didn't notice it. "Don't forget to give her the present!" Cynthia called out, trying not to say it too loudly for the siphoner to hear. Jordan had bought his girlfriend a hairclip, that had a small yellow flower on it.

"I won't!"

The car door closed as Cynthia was left with Monica. "Thank you for today... Jordy really needed it." Monica spoke up, as she looked over at her brother who was walking away with Josie, as she seemed to be explaining something to him. "Of course dear... but I didn't just do this for Jordy." Cynthia assured her, as Monica offered a slightly confused look. "I did this for you too. You're also my family." The witch said.

Monica felt her face soften, as she smiled brightly, incredibly touched by this. "Wow.. between you and my Mum— Rue, I have the coolest Mums ever." She grinned. Cynthia just laughed in amusement.

"Rue will always be your mother... she was an incredible woman and nobody else could possibly compare. But... when I look at you Monica... I see the daughter I never had. So believe me when I say, you are my family too." Cynthia spoke genuinely.

Monica feels tears prick at the corners of her eyes, but refused to cry. "Thanks Cynthia... that means a lot.. a lot more than you may think.." the Montgomery awkwardly laughed.

Monica opened the car door, but Cynthia quickly spoke up. "I got you something." The vampire snapped her head around, as the witch held out the pink handbag that Monica had been eyeing off in the store.

"Oh my god— you shouldn't have." She blurted out with a smile on her lips. Cynthia offered her the bag, as the Montgomery took it. "Thank you. You're the best, Cyn." The blonde giggled.

After bidding farewell Monica entered the school, but stopped as she saw Ruby up ahead, speaking to Jordan and Josie. She zoomed over to them.

"What's up my little wolf?" Monica asked, with a smirk as Ruby stopped talking momentarily to deadpan her, "I am not your little wolf." She huffed.

Monica then examined Ruby as she noticed her her messy hair, and the scratches on her body. "What the hell happened to you?" She asked, concern laced in her voice.

Ruby gave Monics a look, "Josie and I were just about to explain to Jordan and I don't feel like repeating this story of a trainwreck of events that happened today so... listen up, Montgomerys." She began as Jordan and Monica listened intently.

"Basically... in a nutshell, Josie created a clone of Landon to fill with Hope's blood and throw into the portal so it closes. We called him Simu-Landon." Ruby began to explain. "Called?" Jordan asked, concerned. "I'll get to that." The Waithe insisted.

"Anyway Headmaster Vardemus was a trojan horse for Agent Clarke. So basically Clarke has been pretending to be our weirdass principal all semester— and a sphinx showed up in our school this morning and it didn't want Landon so that was something new." Ruby stopped to take a breath before she continued. "Anyway Clarke had this dark weapon that he tricked Josie into helping him create— it was a blade and if Clarke stabbed anyone with it, his consciousness would transfer into them.. and so he wanted to stab Hope to become a tribrid."

Again, the pinkette pauses to take a breath before she continued. "And we tricked Clarke into stabbing Simu-Landon so his body became.. lifeless and then he was in Simu-Landon's body. Then we destroyed him... anyway Alaric is going to be our headmaster again." She then looks to Josie, "Did I miss anything?" She asks. Josie shakes her head, before laughing, "Nope. You're good."

Jordan and Monica blinked in surprise, before they shared a glance. "Just an average day at the Salvatore school..." Monica trailed off.
