05 | love is weakness

Inside Penelope and Monica's dorm, the Park was seated in a chair, while the latter was snipping her burnt ends away with a pair of scissors. "I can't believe she set me on fire!" Penelope complained, still in disbelief that the ex she spoke so innocently about would do such a thing.

Monica wasn't overly surprised. She never believed that Josie was as innocent as Penelope made her out to be. "You needed a change Pen, you're gonna look amazing when I'm done with you." Monica declared, hoping to lift her spirits. Penelope just sighed, "I guess you're right."

"I guess this was her revenge for me kissing Ruby... oh well, hopefully Ruby will like me with this haircut." Penelope decided with a shrug. Monica looked to Penelope for a moment, as she stopped cutting her hair, "You really like this Ruby girl, don't you?"

"I don't know. I barely know her. I'm worried she's going to be a lot like Josie... the selfless one who's world revolves around the selfish." Penelope summed it up. Monica shrugged, "Wouldn't surprise me... apparently she's in a constant state of worry when it comes to her brothers."

"Boys in general, are a real worry, Mon." Penelope reminded the blonde, as Monica had to agree. "Speaking of Ruby's brothers, Rafael is cute, don't you think?" She asked. The Montgomery answered, "He is cute, I think he might like me." The vampire confessed with a smirk. Penelope raised an eyebrow, before she grinned, "Oh really?"

Monica rolled her eyes, "But I'm not interested in relationships. Love is weakness." She simply stated, which caused Penelope to frown, "I love you, does that make me weak?" She asked.

Monica didn't answer, as she went back to snipping away at Penelope's ends. After a couple minutes, she walked off to grab a hand mirror, her heels clicking on the ground.

"Here you go, gorgeous." Monica hummed, returning to her roommate as she handed her the hand mirror. Penelope looked at her hair in the reflection, before smirking, "Damn Mon, I do look hot." Penelope confessed, looking pleased with her haircut. Monica just gave a confident smirk.

Monica's heels clicked loudly on the floor as herself and Penelope walked down the hallway, heading to the cafeteria. As they walked, Lizzie was complaining to her twin about how the Salvatore Stallions jersey was fitting her.

"Maybe you're pregnant, Lizzie. Oh, or maybe it's just how that jersey fits." Penelope spoke up, hoping that Monica would be impressed by her dig at Lizzie, but the blonde was genuinely disappointed by the comment. Monica may be a bitch, but she would never body shame somebody.

"Go away, evil one." Josie piped up as Penelope flipped grinned, "Already gone. Hot tip, next time you burn your ex's hair off, make sure she can't rock a lob."

As Penelope expected Monica to continue walking towards the cafeteria, the Park was disappointed when she saw the vampire walk towards Lizzie. With a frown, Penelope decided wait for her and keep stirring Josie up while she did.

The Montgomery looked at the bandana tied around Lizzie's wrist, before getting an idea. "May I?" She asked, as Lizzie confusedly nodded as she held her wrist out to the girl.

Monica unwrapped the bandana from Lizzie's wrist before tying it loosely around her head. Monica then looked the Saltzman up and down, causing her to completely blush.

"Cute." Monica hummed, as Lizzie had to avert her eyes away from the vampire as she felt her cheeks heat up even more. The Montgomery grinned, seeing the effect she had on the witch.

Penelope groaned before she linked her arm through Monica's. "Quit flirting." She insisted before dragging the vampire away, towards the cafeteria.

As Monica took one last look at Lizzie, the witch gave the vampire a somewhat shy wave. Josie noticed this and grinned at her sister, "Does someone have a crush on Monica Montgomery?" She asked. Lizzie then frowned at her twin, "I do not!"

Hope walked outside towards Alaric's car, only to be suddenly stopped by Ruby. "Hey Hope!" Ruby boomed, hoping to distract her. "Hey Ruby." Hope spoke, trying to walk around the dormant werewolf.

Unfortunately for the tribrid, Ruby followed her steps as an attempt to block her. "So Hope I wanted to ask—" Ruby began, quickly taking Hopes hands in her own, which surprised her.

"What is there to do in Mystic falls? We should have a girls day! Just you and I!" Ruby suggested, eagerly. Hope just narrowed her eyes at Ruby, before she removed her hands from hers. "Are you trying to stall me?" She asked outright. "What? No!" Ruby declared, as Hope frowned.

Hope finally walked around Ruby, rushing to the car "Hope!" Ruby squeaked, quickly going after her. Now by the car, Hope could see Rafael laying under it. "Hi Raf." Hope spoke dryly. "Hey." Rafael answered casually from under the car, as he continued to tinker with it.

"What are you doing?" The tribid asked, as Ruby sheepishly stood beside Hope. "Adjusting the sway bar." Rafael answered, not giving her any more than two words. Hope raised an eyebrow, "Was it broken?"

"It is now." Rafael declared, before he got out from underneath the car. Ruby turned to her roomate now, "We know you're going after Landon. If you want this car to work, we're going with you." She insisted.

Hope frowned at both of the twins before saying, "You two should stay out of it. He's a liar and a thief!" Ruby and Rafael shared a look before Rafael argued, "He took a stupid knife." To which Hope replied, "Nothing in this school is a stupid anything!"

"Hope. He's our brother." Ruby reminded the Mikealson. "And you? You seem vengeful." Rafael added as Ruby agreed with her twin. "Let me show you something. Close your eyes." Hope spoke before she raised her hands to Rafael's temples, to show him a vision. "What the hell was that?" The boy asked, jolting back in surprise.

"Your brother did that to a bus full of people on Route 29 last night, and I am the only one who knows how to find him, so give me the engine thingy." Hope ordered as Rafael shook his head, "No."

"I have actual magic powers." Hope threatened the twins. Ruby frowned upon hearing this, and took a step infront of her twin, protectively. "I have a long history of anger issues." Rafael replied, keeping his eyes fixed on Hope.

"They can come." Alaric's voice piped up, as the man approached his vehicle. "What?" Hope snapped as Ruby and Rafael looked at eachother and shared a smile.

"They know Landon. They'll be an asset. And we need all the help we can get, so Rafael fix the car and hop in. And put a shirt on." Alaric ordered.

Alaric, Hope, Ruby and Rafael were at the explosion site, ousing the leftover crime scene tape and still-burning flares to mark their location. Upon parking on the side of the road, they got out to start searching the area.

They silently walked through the woods near the highway. Hope finally spoke up to break the silence, "I don't know why he's still out here. He has a whole day's lead on us. He could be anywhere."

Rafael and Ruby looked at Hope as though the answer was obvious. "Maybe because he doesn't have a reason to run." Ruby declared as Hope rolled her eyes before retorting sarcastically. "Logic that would be perfectly believable if he hadn't, you know... ran."

"Wait. Shh!" Alaric shushed the trio, as he stopped walking for a moment and focused his hearing, leading Hope, Ruby and Rafael to do the same. "You hear that?" The headmaster asked them. Rafael, Ruby and Hope looked at Alaric blankly as Alaric frowned and concentrated before saying, "Someone's here."

Alaric suddenly bolted from the trio, rushing towards whatever he was hearing. "Uh yeah okay... bye." Ruby spoke awkwardly before the trio caught up to their headmaster, who was standing beside a woman who looked burnt.

Seeing Alaric, the woman took a step back in fear. "It's okay. I... I'm not gonna hurt you." Alaric spoke softly as the woman continued looking back and forth at Alaric, Hope, Ruby and Rafael. "Were you on the bus? Can you tell us what happened?" Alaric then asked.

The woman curiously looked at the forest around her but remained silent, as though she didn't understand what they were saying. Hope frowned and looked at Alaric, "Is she a survivor?" She asked.

Ruby just looked at Hope blankly, "I think she rose from the dead." She spoke sarcastically, not aware that in the supernatural world people have genuinely risen from the dead. "Smells like it. She reeks of smoke." Rafael added.

"I think she's in shock." Alaric admitted, as she was very quiet. "Look, I need to get her to the police so she can get some medical attention. Uh, why don't you three go ahead?" He suggested before quickly adding, "Don't engage. We don't know how dangerous Landon is."

"He's not dangerous--" Rafael interjected as Ruby glsred at Alaric, "Landon couldn't hurt a fly— even if he tried!" Alaric shot the Waithe twins a stern look. "I said don't engage." He repeated himself.

Alaric turned back toward the strange woman, as Hope rolled her eyes at his warning, "Come on..." She then said to the twins, as they walked further into the woods.

Monica approached the field, her long blonde hair tied up in a high ponytail, with a bandana around her head just like Lizzie's. The Montgomery had tied her jersey as an attempt to make it into a crop top.

The Stallions gave the blonde a blank look, as they'd been waiting for the girl to enter the field so they could begin the game. "I'm not sorry I'm a little late, had to make sure my hair was tied perfectly out of the way." Monica announced.

"All right, guys. Let's have a good, clean, entirely uneventful game." Dorian spoke to the Salvatore Stallions, which consisted of Josie, Lizzie and Kaleb, MG and Monica amongst other students.

Dorian emphasised the last few words and made a point of looking at Lizzie, Monica and Josie to make sure they understand his meaning— no powers or any other behavior that could reveal their supernatural status.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves were smiling smugly at the Stallions, although many of them were staring at Monica dreamily when she wasn't looking. Connor and Dana in particular wanted to try hard to get the vampire's attention. "Like we do every year when we beat your asses down." Connor declares as Dorian gave him a frown. "Not exactly the spirit, Connor." Dorian responded as Connor continued to mock them.

The referee pulled out a coin and prepared to flip it. "All right, call in the air." Dorian insisted as Dana gave Lizzie a scathing look before saying, "Tails never fails." The coin at last fell onto the grass with the tails side landing face-up. "Guess not." Dorian shrugged, surprised. Connor and Dana low-fived each other and continue to smirk smugly at the Stallions. "Your ball. Shake hands and lets do this." Dorian spoke to the players.

Most of the players shook hands without incident, but Connor seemed to be making it his mission to piss the Stalliond off as he made sure to shoulder check some of them, getting a rise out of Kaleb.

Monica walked over to Dana, who quickly straightened her posture and pretended like she hadn't been drooling over the blonde moments earlier. "Good luck out there." Monica said, standing tall as she held out her arm. Dana smirked and ignored her offered hand, deciding to act too cool for the blonde. "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." Dana replieed. Monica just rolled her eyes and laughed humourlessly, "Alright. Whatever."

"I'm pretty sure I've seen that on a poster at the dentist." Lizzie admitted, pacing over to Dana and Monica as she wanted to get Monica's attention. Dana grinned, as she turned to Lizzie now, "Oh, my dad's a dentist. But he still made time to be here. Guess I'm lucky that way, huh?" Lizzie was shocked by this low blow, and glared at Dana.

Monica just looked at Dana, with an unamused expression, "Well us girls still have our real teeth." She announced, referring to herself and Lizzie. "Guess we're lucky that way, huh?" The blonde asked as Lizzie laughed. Dana frowned at Monica... it wasn't so much the insult that hurt her, but the fact that it came from her crush, of all people and also that she was defending Lizzie.

Dana just scoffed before walking away, as Lizzie turned to Monica with a smile. Monica smirked in response, before walking away.
