Return

Mark didn't speak as he stood up once more off of the couch and took a step towards Seán with his arms open to embrace him, the Irishman flinching away from Mark as if the dark haired male's touch would burn him.

"I already lost Signe, what else do you want from me?!" Seán snapped as he roughly wiped away the few tears that had escaped his eyes with the back of his hand.

"Seán-"

Mark broke off with a long sigh once he realized that Seán wouldn't listen as he let his arms drop limp to his side, his chocolate brown eyes boring into Seán's with a sympathetic gaze.

"Just get out." Seán muttered coldly as he stormed down the hall and into his bedroom, slamming the door shut behind him with a bang.

Only then did Seán let himself break down, sobs wracking the Irishman's body as he slumped to the floor with his back against the door, his hands ripping at his coffee brown hair.

"Seán, I'm sorry." Mark apologized, his voice muffled by the door.

"Why won't you just leave me alone?" Seán hiccuped softly through his tears, his knees curled up close to his chest and his arms around them.

"Because I'm your friend." Mark replied without hesitation, his voice cracking slightly with emotion.

"If you were my friend, then you wouldn't of come here. I'd get to live a normal life with Signe and forget all about my past." Seán shot back vehemently.

"I came here because everyone's disappearing, including your father!" Mark blurted.

Seán felt like his world was crashing down around him as he shot to his feet, swinging the door open to reveal Mark waiting for him with a grim expression.

"Tell me what happened."

Mark nodded and brought Seán outside, the Irishman frowning in confusion when he saw nothing.

Mark winked as he took a remote out and pressed a button, a Quinjet appearing in front of them with its ramp lowered.

"Everyone is gathered at HQ." Mark stated as he ushered Seán onto the jet before following him aboard, the ramp raising behind them before the jet took off.

"Where's my dad?" Seán demanded impatiently, his fingers curled into fists at his side.

"I'll get to that." Mark promised, the dark haired male absent mindlessly removing the shield slung across his back to run a finger along its edge.

"So, why do you need all hands on deck? What are we facing?" Seán questioned Mark as he took a seat by a window so he could watch the clouds fly by.

"We're facing the most powerful villain in history...his name is Thanos, he's known for destroying worlds in minutes." Mark explained as he took a seat by Seán.

"You say his name as if I already know who he is." Seán countered with a nervous chuckle to lighten the atmosphere, earning a surprised look from Mark.

"You don't-never mind, you'll learn about him soon enough. Anyway, we won't be dealing with him." Mark assured Seán.

"Then what are we doing?" Seán replied warily, wondering what could be worse than Thanos.

"We have to take care of the smaller crime so the world doesn't fall into chaos while the rest of the Avengers work on stopping Thanos."

"That's it? You made me lose Signe-"

"You could've stayed home and found her so you two could talk!" Mark yelled angrily as he jabbed a finger in Seán's face.

"Just....just stop blaming me for her leaving you." Mark continued in a quieter voice, all of his anger seeming to drain out in an instant.

Seán swallowed hard as he let his gaze fall to his shoes, his expression unreadable to Mark.

"I keep blaming you because I hate blaming myself. We've been growing apart for months, and I guess me returning to be a hero finally broke our fragile relationship." Seán confessed in a heartbroken tone.

Mark remained silent as the quinjet finally landed on the ground next to the other quintets, Captain America standing outside waiting for them.

Mark ran out to his dad and hugged him close, the dark haired male stepping back from the embrace after a moment so Seán could talk to him.

"Mark told me that my dad disappeared, do you know what he means?" Seán asked worriedly.

"Seán," Steve paused as he rested a comforting hand on Seán's shoulder, his gray-blue eyes filled with sorrow.

"Thanos turned him to dust, as well as many other heroes." Steve finished gently.

Seán's features tightened in barely restrained anger as he roughly brushed Steve's hand off of his shoulder.

"And I'm not allowed to help Hunt down the guy that killed my dad?!" Seán cried out in disbelief.

"You would die!" Steve pointed out.

"I might as well be." Seán shot back darkly, his eyes welling with tears once more.

He had no family left.

He had no real friends.

He only had himself.

Before Steve could stop Seán, the Irishman stomped off after Mark since he didn't know where else to go.

This is gong to be a hell of a time, Seán thought sourly as he followed Mark without being seen, neither male noticing the dark shadow following them.
