Your first week of school was remarkably uneventful. All of your classes were going to be super easy, just like you planed, and there were no emergencies for you or the Avengers to tend to.
So you spent your time how you wanted. Which was you doing absolutely nothing.
It felt good to do nothing every once and awhile. You were always so busy with your dragon rider and avenger responsibilities that you hardly ever had time for yourself.
You decided that the best way to befriend Loki was to take it slow. So he didn't feel like you were pushing yourself onto him. When you saw him alone you would try to start up a calm happy conversation with him. He would usually just make cruel remarks and try to get on your nerves. You never let it bring you down though.
One night you made chocolate chip cookies, you hadn't seen Loki all day so you left a plate by the door for him. Just to show him that someone cared.
He didn't take it though. Not trusting the team.
It was finally the weekend and the team had gotten called out on a mission. They were leaving you and Loki at the tower though.
They didn't trust Loki to be on missions yet, and they wanted you to stay behind to keep an eye on him.
"Here." Tony told you as he handed you a small remote control. "In case he dose anything stupid press this button." He indicated to the remote. "He has a metal band on that limits his powers. It can also shock him to keep him in line."
You scrunched you're nose up at that in disgust. Loki hadn't done anything while he was here in the tower to deserve that punishment. It just seemed so wrong to you. No way were you going to shock him.
"Remember, your safety comes first." Tony told you firmly.
"Yeah yeah yeah." You told him rolling your eyes. "I can handle myself. All of you should go save the world." You told the team who was waiting for Tony. "I got everything covered here."
"If you need any backup just call." Cap reminded you. "One of us will come back as fast as we can."
"I got it." You told them again. The team had adopted you as part of their family. With you being the youngest that meant you had a whole team of super people worrying over your safety at all times. They always seemed to think up the worst situation that could possible happen to you. Then they would constantly worry about it. "I can take care of myself," you reminded them, "now can you go save some people and stop worrying over me?"
They all laughed at you before going up to the flight deck to leave.
You looked around the empty living room when they were gone. It felt lonely without everyone here, but they would be back soon. So there was no need to worry.
You grabbed your iPad, a blanket, and some lemonade before heading up to the roof. When you moved in you had set up some lounge chairs, a table, and an umbrella up on the roof. It was your one place to get away from everything.
You liked spending time with people, but you also liked the time spent by yourself. You could never tell if you were an introvert or and extrovert. Both applied to you.
You put in one of your ear phones as you lied on a lounge chair listening to music. You had to leave one out, incase someone needed something.
You must of dozed off some because the next thing you could remember was the sound of the roof door opening and closing some unknown amount of time later. You stopped your music looking over at who was coming up onto your roof.
Loki had come out of his room, looking at you a little surprised to see you up here. He had a book clucked to his chest as you and him stared at each other for a moment both surprised to see the other. He must have come up here to read.
"What is a child, like you, doing up on the roof?" Loki asked you coldly, he was the first to come out of his temporary shock. "Dose the team know their precious mascot of a child is up here all alone with no adult supervision?"
"I come up here all the time." You told Loki, unfazed by his mockery. "I was actually the one who set the chairs up in the first place. It's just a nice place to hang out." Loki didn't say anything to that, as he stood by the door awkwardly. "You can come sit." You told Loki turning back to him. "You obviously found this place on your own and just wanted some fresh air. I won't bite."
Loki grumbled something about weak stupid Midgardians but came over to take the chair next to you. He settled down, opening his book, doing his best to ignore you were there.
You didn't mind though. Loki was thrown into this position. He didn't want to be here, on Earth with the people he tried to kill a few years back. He was rude and cruel to you because he was uncomfortable with his surroundings. Once he settled down some he would realize you were just trying to become his friend.
At least, that's what you hoped would happen.
As Loki sat in his chair, reading his book, you decided that you were going to draw him. So you took your iPad and started to draw Loki.
You would look at Loki, then you would look down at your iPad to draw. Look at Loki. Draw. Look at Loki. Draw.
This continued on for about an hour until Loki got fed up with you looking over at him. He tired to ignore you, but it was difficult to pretend you weren't there when you were intently staring at him.
"What are you doing?" Loki snapped at you, a slight growl in his voice. "Don't you know it's impolite to stare!?"
"I'm drawing you." You told him as you finished your last details on your picture. "See." You held out your iPad to show Loki the drawing you were making.
It was him reading his book in the lounge chair. The big open sky behind him.
Loki studied the picture for a moment, expecting it to be of him as an evil monster, but it wasn't. It was just him.
"Your drawing isn't terrible." Loki finally told you after a long while. Before trying to go back to his book.
"That was the nicest thing you have ever said to me!" You teased him happily, a smirk playing on your lips. "I don't know what to say." You continued.
"Probably thank you." Loki told you dryly, never taking his eyes away from his book. "If I had not decided to sit here, you would not have had a muse to draw."
"In that case, thank you, oh so much to grace me with your presence muse." You teased Loki some more.
Loki just sighed, and rolled his eyes, thinking you stupid and stubborn.
You swung your feet over the side of your chair, getting ready to stand up. "Come on Loki," you told him as you stood, "let's go get something to eat."
"And what makes you think I would take orders from someone with the likes of you?" Loki asked you, as he flipped his page.
"Because your just as hungry as me." You pointed out logically, "your probably even more hungry than me. Your Asgardian after all. I've seen Thor eat. I know Asgardians can eat a lot."
Loki objected, telling you he was in no way like Thor. But you just rolled your eyes.
"Do you want food or not?" You asked him simply. All you wanted to do was go have lunch, Loki was making that more difficult than it needed to be.
Loki thought for a moment before gracefully standing up. "I would not object for you to make me a meal." Loki told you elegantly, regally. He was playing his prince card. Showing you that he was more superior then you ever hoped to be.
You just rolled your eyes and led him into the tower to go get some food.
*
Once you and him got into the main kitchen, that was located in the main living room, you started the oven to warm up two frozen pizzas. You didn't feel like making anything too fancy, and frozen pizzas were always good.
Loki sat on his couch to read his book as you got lunch ready. Every so often you would look over at Loki just to make sure he was ok.
Yes, he was hundreds of years older than you. Yes, he had a lot more power than you did. And yes, he could take care of himself better than you could take care of yourself. But you were left here to keep an eye on him, he was in your care. You were the oldest in the family, that's what you did, take care of your siblings. Right now it was Loki who you had to care for.
"Lunch is ready." You called to Loki as you took out the two pizzas. "Though we might want to let them cool down first." You set the pizzas down on the stove as you turned off the oven.
As you set them down you got a strange feeling, like something wasn't quite right. You went over to Loki, who was busy ignoring your existence with his book. You stood behind his couch as you surveyed the room, looking for anything that was out of place. You also listened intently for anything that didn't sound right.
Even before you became a dragon rider you had a very reliable gut. Maybe you were just more in tuned with your surroundings. Or maybe it was just a hidden superpower no one knew you had. Either way something just didn't feel right to you.
You heard a high pitched beeping sound coming from... somewhere. You couldn't quite locate it.
"What is that sound?" Loki asked you looking up from his book. "It is quite distracting."
That's when you recognized it.
You jumped over the back of Loki's couch, scrambling over to the coffee table. You flipped the table over, the glasses and magazines crashing to the ground. You managed to grab Loki by the arm and yank him down next to you, so both of you were shielded by the table. Not a moment latter the doors to the stairs exploded, as people filed into the room.
There were at least fifteen big strong men, all dressed in black agent outfits. They had on, black bulletproof vests as well, along with black helmets and think ski like goggles that covered their eyes. All of them heavily armed with all sorts of weapons.
This was just great.
