Chapter 64: Pain's Invasion
A/N - Hey guys! Yes y'all, I've managed to type out another chapter! I guess it's safe to say I'm pretty much back cause I've been in the mood to write. It's been pretty difficult writing some of the Naruto scenes but I'm doing my best with it and trying to add scenes to sorta give it a twist so it's not like you're just reading a script from the show lol.
Anyway, please remember to comment and vote and enjoy ❤️

Chapter 64: Pain's Invasion
"Quick, children! This way!" Nia gestured her hand in the direction she wanted the children of Konoha to go as they were all in a line.
All throughout the village, buildings had been exploding with lots of smoke thick in the air and fire blazing about. There was a loud boom that filled the ears of everyone and a trembling that made their footing unbalanced.
"NIA-SENSEI, I'M SO SCARED!" A child, no more than eight-years-old, cried.
"It'll be alright," Nia bent down and ruffled their hair. "Just please follow everyone to the evacuation shelter."
"But what about you?" Another kid asked.
"Oh, I'll be fine," The kunoichi gave a warm smile, hoping it would help ease their worries. "No need to worry about me."
"This way, children," A shinobi took charge of the two and led them elsewhere.
"Nia-senseeeeeei!" They all didn't wanna leave, but was forced to continue walking forward.
"I'll catch up to you all later. Be safe!" She waved.
She then turned to her fellow chunin and said, "I'm gonna go back into the village and try to help as many people as I can."
"Wait, you can't leave!" The man said as Nia ran away. "You're a guardian of the Nine-Tails, aren't you?! You're one of whom the enemy is looking for!"
"Please just take care of things over here for me, okay?" She only shouted back.
And with that, the girl disappeared.
Konan and the Six Paths of Pain continued their attack on Konohagakure while systematically interrogating and killing shinobi and civilians alike regarding the whereabouts of Naruto and his guardians. Due to Tsunade's duties as Hokage and Shizune leading the autopsy, Sakura was placed in charge of all the wounded at the Konoha Hospital.
Danzō Shimura decided to alert Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado, the two elders of the Konoha Council, that Pain of the Akatsuki was destroying their village in an attempt to find the guardians of the Nine-Tails, and Naruto, whom Tsunade was attempting to bring back to the village at the very moment.
Angered, the two elders stormed into Tsunade's office, asking her to leave Naruto at Mount Myōboku, unsatisfied with her handling of events. As the elders mentioned the dangers of handing the Nine-Tails over to Pain, who had killed Jiraiya of all people, Tsunade was vexed as they referred to Naruto as merely the vessel of the tailed beast.
Pulling them off their feet by their collars, she announced that Naruto was not just a vessel, but a shinobi of Konoha, a comrade, who had sworn to defend their village, recalling when Naruto saved her during her battle with Kabuto; she proceeded to tell the elders that the Third Hokage, Chiyo of Suna and Jiraiya all possessed something that the two of them lack — the power to believe, to have faith, in someone like Naruto.
With that, she released them from her clutches and they fell to their bottoms. When they stood to their feet, all they could say was:
"Fine... We'll let you handle things from here."
At Mount Myōboku, Naruto had perfected becoming one with nature and proceeded to use his Sage Mode to hone a certain technique. At the moment, however, he was conversing with Gamakichi.
"Say, Naruto..." The reddish-orange toad spoke.
"Yeah? What is it?" The blond replied, eating what looked to be a large bug.
Despite the horrible taste of Ma's cooking the first time, Naruto had grown to actually enjoy the taste of her bug filled meal over time. He thought of it to be because he was becoming more and more like that of a frog, much to his horror.
"I heard you're gonna be a dad!" Gamakichi said.
This prompted a smile to grow on his friend's face.
"Yeah! I'm gonna be a father to two baby girls."
"Twins, huh?"
Naruto nodded as he chewed his food. Gamakichi gave a look of concern.
"What? Why do you keep looking at me like that, Gamakichi? Aren't you happy for me?" Naruto questioned.
"Well ya, but-"
"But what? Spit it out."
"Aren't you... a little too young to have children, Naruto?"
"With Nia by my side, I can handle anything, ya know!"
"Aren't you only sixteen though?"
"Eighteen."
"What? Eighteen already?" The toad gasped.
"Yeah."
"But you told me you were sixteen not that long ago."
"Gamakichi, you really must've gotten yourself lost in time. That was about two years ago. I told you that around the time I met Nia."
"Wait, so how long have you been dating that girl?"
"Erm... Over a year now."
"And you're already having babies?!"
"Well, I love her."
"Then that must mean you're planning on marrying her real soon too, right?"
"..." The genin didn't say anything.
"Naruto?" Gamakichi tilted his head.
"Well... there's a few things I'd like to get done before I pop the question to her, ya know..." Naruto finally answered.
"Huh? Like what?"
"Getting rid of the Akatsuki for one... and bringing Sasuke back to the village. There's just some things I'd like to accomplish before marriage. Originally, I wasn't planning on having any babies so soon but certain circumstances pushed me into trying to get my Nia pregnant. I'm very relieved and happy she is having my baby now."
"WHAT?! SHE'S ALREADY ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH?!"
"No," The ninja chuckled. "I just meant I'm happy she's pregnant with my babies at the moment, ya know?"
"Oh," Gamakichi chuckled at himself. "Well, congratulations, Naruto. How far along is she?"
"Granny Tsunade said she was twelve weeks."
"So about three months."
"Yeah, I've only got about six months to live up to my promise to Nia." Naruto said.
"What promise?"
"I told her I'd take care of the Akatsuki and bring Sasuke back before our babies are born."
"That's some promise... Think you can do it?"
"Of course I can! I never go back on my word, ya know!"
"As long as you believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind too!"
"Yeah, I know. Thanks, Gamakichi."
Back in Konoha, Shizune rushed in to Tsunade's office, revealing that they found chakra receivers within the body Jiraiya procured, and that the very chakra receiver was still working.
Musing why Pain was sending chakra to the other bodies, Tsunade ordered Kōsuke, a messenger toad, to return to Mount Myōboku and relay the situation to Naruto and Fukasaku; Tsunade then proceeded to head to the roof. As everyone cleared out of the office, Kōsuke prepared to dispel himself back home, only to be stabbed and killed by Danzō, who did not want the Nine-Tails to return to Konoha.
On the roof of the Hokage building, Tsunade summoned Katsuyu and tells her to use her Slug Great Division to split into numerous, smaller slugs and heal the wounded, swearing to protect the village as Hokage.
Elsewhere, Nia swirled and cracked flying debris into pieces with a kick of her leg. Fire scorched all around her as she dug through the streets to find any survivors.
Many homes had collapsed, trapping people under tons of rubble dead or alive. She tried to dig out everyone with her bare hands, but it was a hopeless task and all she pulled out were mangled and dusty corpses.
"Please... Please help me," A croak entered her ears as she lifted some rubble out of the way using her strength.
There, she would find a man who looked to be in his thirties, lying in pain and unable to move. However, he was still alive and this brought a smile to the girl's face.
"Sir, you're gonna be alright. Are you able to move by any chance," She helped him out of his prison.
"Does it look like I can move?!" He snapped at her.
"Listen, I didn't have to move that rubble away from you so I'd think twice about your attitude."
"Alright, alright, I'm sorry. Thanks for saving me. The truth is that I think both my legs are broken. It's practically been crushed."
"That's no problem," A gentle voice then spoke. "I can heal you."
"Kya!" Nia screamed as Katsuyu made her way to the body and laid atop of it. "I-It's a slug!"
"You must be Nia," The animal greeted her. "My name is Katsuyu. I'm Lady Tsunade's summoning animal. I've been ordered to help heal the wounded around the village."
"Oh, I see. You're a good guy then!"
"Yes, but you shouldn't be here right now."
"Huh? But I'm a chunin and I'm supposed to be helping out out here."
"No, you're at a vulnerable state right now being that you're pregnant."
"I know, but I'm only helping escorting as many people as I can to the evacuation shelter." The kunoichi explained.
"I see that, however, aside from being pregnant, you're also a guardian of the Nine-Tails. Right now, the enemy is searching for not only Naruto, but the guardians of the Nine-Tails as well. That includes you."
"I realize that, but I can't sit around doing nothing while everyone is out here dying and trying to protect this village! I have to help them!"
"Listen to the slug and get out of here," Another voice spoke up from behind the girl.
"Shikamaru..." Nia looked over her shoulder to see her fellow comrade giving her a displeased look.
"Nia, if I'm right, the Akatsuki doesn't know you've been revived, right?"
"Well, they weren't there when I awoke..."
"Don't you see the kind of advantage we have over them right now?"
"N-No..."
"Think about it... they need to kill you in order to capture Naruto. Right now, they think you're dead and thus aren't looking for you. If we hide you, we can make sure they don't succeed in extracting the Nine-Tails even if they manage to kill the other guardians. They need all of you dead in order to take Naruto's tailed beast and with you alive, they can't do that, you see?"
Nia gasped.
"Ah! I see what you're saying! That's really smart, Shikamaru."
"Honestly, I think it's just common sense." He dug into his ear.
Nia thought about her decision once more.
"Naruto will be safe as long as I'm hidden away..."
"Right."
"But then... everyone else though. I feel like I'm abandoning them."
"Trust me, they will all be understanding... especially since you're pregnant and all."
"Huh? How'd you know that?! Naruto nor I haven't told anyone yet."
"Lady Tsunade told me. She said to go find you and make sure you get sent to the evacuation shelter."
Nia frowned.
"I don't know..."
"You have no choice. You're the key to having the enemy's mission go to waste. Please, Nia. If you can't do it for this village, do it for Naruto."
"For Naruto..."
"Yes."
"All right," The girl made up her mind. "I'll do it for everyone in the village and Naruto!"
"Thank you!"
"Yep!" Nia ran in the direction of the shelter.
Shikamaru breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness... Naruto would kill me if I were to let something happen to Nia and his babies."
"Shikamaru, I can handle things over here," Katsuyu told him, still healing the man Nia found. "Just please help out the others."
"Got it."
Meanwhile...
"Are you alright?" Iruka asked another Leaf ninja after having just rescued him from an explosion.
That's when the leader of the six paths of pain, the Deva Path, stood in front of him.
"You... You're one of the guardians, aren't you?"
"And so what if I am?"
"Tell me... Where's the jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails?"
Pain slid out a rod from his sleeve.
Iruka studied the pattern on the enemy's cloak.
This cloud pattern... I see... so he's from the Akatsuki.
"Speak up!"
An image of Naruto ran through the chunin's mind.
Naruto...
"I have no intention on telling you where he is!"
"Then..." Pain pulled his arm back then at once sprung his rod forward, ready to pierce his target. "I have no use for you."
Cling!
Both men's eyes widened in surprise as it was revealed Kakashi had caught the rod just in time.
"You create a loud diversion..." The copycat ninja spoke, looking the enemy dead in the eye with his sharingan. "So that you can investigate from the shadows, eh?"
"Kakashi!" Iruka called.
"Please take the wounded one away from here."
"Yes!" Iruka obeyed, wrapping the wounded ninja's arm around his shoulder.
He would then take off, but not before wishing Kakashi good luck.
And so, Kakashi was left with the Deva Path.
"I'll get to him later..." The orange-haired man spoke. "But for now... you're a bigger guardian to take down and I'm going to be needing my strength to kill you."
"I'd like to see you try..."
And so, those two would engage in a battle to the death.
Meanwhile, back at Mount Myoboku, Gamakichi sat on Naruto's back, who was currently doing push ups.
"Come on, Naruto! You can do better than that! Do this for your girlfriend! Do it for your babies!" Gamakichi tried to encourage the blond.
Naruto's arms only wobbled as he did another push-up, sweat dripping down his face.
"Man, has it already been five minutes? You keep getting heavier and heavier by the second, ya know." He whined.
"Sage Mode only enhances your strength for five minutes, so yes... You're starting to lose your power." Fukasaku answered.
"Gah! Get the heck off me Gamakichi before you squish me to death!" Naruto screamed.
"Give me one more push up."
"Are you kidding me?! You're gonna smash me into a pancake, ya know!"
"Come on! You can do it!"
"Get off me!"
"Don't be like that. Listen, if you do a push up, next time you summon me, I'll try to convince that girlfriend of yours to let you hit it in the back door like you said you wanted to do to her."
"REALLY?!" Naruto's eyes turned into hearts.
"Ya! I'll tell her how amazing you were with your training and how much you improved in a short amount of time. Surely, she'll reward you with letting you slam into her back side."
"IT'S A DONE DEAL!" Naruto suddenly gathered strength in his arms and started doing an uncountable number of push ups.
It was so quick in fact that Gamakichi lost balance on his back and fell to his side, relieving Naruto from his weight finally.
"Woooow," Gamatatsu, who had accompanied the other three, gasped. "He must really wanna pound her backdoor."
Jumping to his feet, Naruto stretched his body.
"Argh... that damn near killed me."
"Well at least we know you've gotten stronger," Fukasaku said. "Come now, let's take a break."
Hopping over to his jacket, Naruto pulled something out from there and sat down, smiling to himself as he stared at what was in his hand.
"What you looking at, Naruto?" The yellow toad approached him.
In his hand was a photo. A photo of Nia smiling with a large teddy bear the genin had bought her.
"Oh, I see... Staring at your girlfriend, huh?"
"She's just really adorable..."
"Ya, she's okay... I like her," Gamatatsu smiled. "She's really nice and brings me treats all the time when you summon me."
Naruto chuckled.
"Yeah, she's really kind alright..."
"Naruto?"
"Yeah?"
"What do you love about her?"
"Ah, that's easy... I love her cause she loves me... for who I am. She doesn't see me as some kind of vessel for the Nine-Tails. She sees me as me... Naruto Uzumaki."
"Awww, how sweet."
"I just... want her to be happy. I'll do whatever it takes to make sure she never spirals into depression again. I'll be her light forever!"
"Well, I'm just glad you two are happy," Gamakichi responded. "Honestly, I wasn't even sure if you two would ever be together. I mean, you were so in denial, Naruto."
"What?! Who was in denial?!"
"Uh... You were," Gamatatsu answered.
"I was not! I told her I loved her from the start!"
"No you didn't!" Gamakichi clapped back. "You kept saying you only loved her as a friend when it was as day that you were in love with her!"
"Bwah! You guys don't know anything about my love for Nia. I mean, I was never in denial."
"You sure are a liar..." Gamatatsu told the blond.
A vein grew at Naruto's temple.
"What you just call me, Gamatatsu?!"
"A liar..." The yellow toad repeated.
"GYAH! There you go calling me that again!" Naruto kipped up and chased the toad as it hopped away from him. "You've got some nerve telling me I denied my love for Nia!"
"You don't remember having her kiss you on the cheek and you literally melted into a puddle then said you loved her as a friend?" Gamatatsu kept trying to create distance between him and Naruto.
Naruto blushed as he thought back on the memory.
"Argh! Just shut up already! That was all in the past! I totally don't deny being in love with her now! So cut me some slack!"
"Maybe if you weren't so dense, you would've realized your feelings a lot sooner." Said Gamakichi.
As they poked fun at Naruto, in Konoha, a showdown between Kakashi and Pain had taken place.
Kakashi attempted to strike Pain with his lightning blade. Using his Rinnegan, Pain was able to disrupt Kakashi, who lost focus and was thus unable to strike Pain. Using the Deva Path's almighty push ability, Pain repelled Kakashi, causing an explosion. Amidst the rubble, Kakashi emerged, and proceeded to use his Lightning Release: Lightning Beast Tracking Fang to attack the Deva Path, although the attack is blocked by the arrival of the Asura Path. Using his universal pull technique, Pain pulled Kakashi towards the Asura Path's blade, impaling him and seemingly killing him.
The impaled Kakashi turned out to be none other than a Lightning Release shadow clone, while the real Kakashi surfaced from the rubble. He is joined by reinforcements, consisting of Chōji, Chōza and Shitō Akimichi of the Akimichi clan, as well as three other shinobi. Chōji and Chōza use their partial expansion jutsu to crush the Asura Path as the other three attempt to take out the Deva Path, only for Pain to use his Shinra Tensei to repel and subsequently kill them.
Kakashi realized that the Deva Path had a recharge period of five seconds between attacks, and decided to take advantage of the interval by attempting to kill Pain with his lightning blade, only for the Asura Path, who was still able to move, to shield the Deva Path with its body. Wanting to take advantage of the interval once more, Kakashi throws a chain underground and uses his Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique to attack Pain, but the Deva Path counters with almighty push to repel Kakashi. Kakashi used the chain to bind Pain while Chōji and Chōza used their Double Human Bullet Tank to crush the Deva Path. However, Pain managed to repel both Akimichi clan members, with Chōza shielding Chōji with his body.
Discerning that the trapped Kakashi was not a shadow clone, Pain's Deva Path used a nail from a wooden board and fired it at Kakashi's head, seemingly killing him. The Deva Path then left, unaware that Chōji was still alive. Chōji noticed his father's body and cried, mourning his father's death. Kakashi, who was barely alive, ordered Chōji to mourn later and to take the opportunity to report the Deva Path's abilities to Tsunade, who was channeling her chakra along with Katsuyu in order to heal the wounded.
As Chōji runs, the Asura Path, who was still alive, fired a missile at him, intending to kill him. Kakashi depleted his remaining chakra to activate his Mangekyō Sharingan, using its Kamui ability to warp the missile away; the Asura Path realises that Kakashi had used Kamui to warp away the nail that was fired at him earlier.
Afterward, Kakashi stayed there, his mind having thought about his former teammates: Obito and Rin.
I guess... I'll be seeing you guys again. I can't wait... to just catch up with all of you...
And so... Kakashi Hatake... had died.
Katsuyu would then inform the Hokage that Kakashi had died, causing Tsunade to temporarily stop her technique so she could vent her anger and frustration out. As Chōji delivered the Deva Path's profile and abilities, Tsunade thanked him and tells him that Chōza was still alive, and to bring him to the hospital. Chōji asked if Kakashi was alive as well, only for Tsunade to walk away.
'Kakashi...' She thought as she left.
