Chapter 37: Hinata's and Nia's Jealousy

"Kiba, I really don't think we should be down here like this," Hinata mumbled as the two were going down the stairs and hiding behind the corner of a wall while the guards weren't looking.

"Well this is the best way I can hear what those two are talking about." Kiba replied, having made sure Akamaru was transformed as him in fear they'd get spotted more easily if he were in his original dog state.

"Nia, don't worry. You're safe now, okay?" Naruto reassured the girl as she anxiously gripped the bars of the cell they were in.

"But Naruto-"

"Shh, it's okay," He hugged her. "Your hero won't let anyone hurt you. Just focus on being in his arms..."

Nia's face reddened.

"You promise, honeybun?"

"Yeah," The blonde nodded. "As long as your hero is here with you, you'll be fine."

"Cause my hero is going to protect me, right?"

"That and he's going to make sure to bring you home safe and sound."

"...Okay," She mumbled, trying to relieve herself through the affection.

Kiba rolled his eyes.

"Hero, my ass," He scoffed. "I mean, who does this guy think he is? If it weren't for Pakkun tracing down her scent after that weird smoke bomb went off, we would still be looking for her."

"..." Hinata looked on to the embrace and lowered her eyes.

Kiba caught onto that detail.

"You still can't get over Naruto, can you?"

"Let's not talk about this right now please, Kiba."

"It's true, isn't it? You look jealous right now."

"Kiba, please."

The Inuzuka shook his head.

"No way. I'm not letting this go on forever. One way or another, we're going to get those two to break up."

"No... That'd be a terrible thing to do."

"Don't act all innocent about it. You want them to split even more than I do. After all, Nia stole your longtime crush. You've liked Naruto since forever then bam! She comes out of nowhere and takes him from you somehow."

"Just try and take a deep breath... Everything is going to be all right." They then listened more to what the couple were talking about.

"Mhm..." Nia nodded as Naruto gently dropped the two of them to the ground, across from one another with Nia legs to each side of his hips.

"Now look at me," He cupped her face, forcing her to make direct eye contact with him. "You say you don't remember how you broke free from the genjutsu, but this orange masked man... What did he do to you while you were in the genjutsu?"

"I can't... I just can't really remember much of anything except what I already told you."

"...Well try and think harder."

"I can't remember anything else, Naruto."

"Fine..." He made a sigh of disappointment then held her hand.

Hinata darted her eyes and felt sick to her stomach.

"Hinata, you know, it's not wrong to admit that you're jealous," Kiba reassured her. "It's a natural way to feel."

"But I'm just not like that... I want Naruto to be happy."

"Yeah... You want him to be happy with and only you."

The Hyuga shook her head.

"No... I want him to be happy in general."

"You say that, but the way you act says otherwise. Actions speak louder than words, you know."

Hearing this, the girl intently stared at the back of Nia as she and her crush resumed hugging once more. Her mind raced back to a year prior, when she had happened to overhear what her rival in love had to say in terms over the drama that was unfolding between her and the girl.

~FLASHBACK~

"I have to say that you owe Hinata here an apology," Yamato told Nia as she was recovering in bed from having given her blood to Naruto.

She lowered her eyes, her bangs casted a shadow over them. She was quiet.

"What you said to Hinata was uncalled for, even if you were greatly stressed out from Naruto having been poisoned." He added.

"..."

Nothing.

"I... I don't know if I should," She then finally mumbled.

"And why is that?" The man questioned.

"Because she likes Naruto."

"Even if so, that doesn't give you the right to snap at her the way you did back there."

"Oh give her a break, Captain Yamato," Kiba joined the conversation, also recovering from giving some blood to Nia. "I'm sure she didn't really mean to snap at Hinata the way she did. It must've been the stress of the situation that made her get so rough with everyone."

"Is that what it was, Nia?" The man glanced over at her.

Outside the room, Hinata was listening behind the door.

"It's just..." Nia sighed. "Hinata is just... perfect."

"Perfect?"

"Yeah," She nodded. "The reason I snapped at her was because... I feel jealous of her."

"Why're you jealous of Hinata?" Yamato questioned.

"She's sweet and pretty and has like the perfect body on top of that. She's literally perfect and I can't stand the fact that she's the one that Naruto should notice."

"Well, Naruto doesn't notice her so at least try and not be so jealous of Hinata," Kiba said. "Especially not after what you just did to save him.. it would really rub me the wrong way if that guy suddenly switched up on you after what just happened."

"I saved him... but still... when she just let me know that she has feelings for him, I just felt this intense jealousy... this intense threat. The thought of her confessing her feelings to Naruto and having him just suddenly leave me in favor of her tore me apart."

"But that didn't happen," Yamato replied.

"It still bothers me; I feel threatened."

There was a brief silence.

"To be honest... I got scared. It was like everything was slipping out of my grasp. That's... Why I snapped. Hinata is a beautiful girl and deserves whomever she wants. However, I'll fight for Naruto, period. I wouldn't want to have to do that, but if she tries something, I don't care I put myself at risk if it means I can protect the bond I tried so hard to establish with him. I don't care if you guys call me crazy."

'She's... jealous of me?' Hinata thought as she continued listening in.

"Yo, Hinata," Her heart skipped a beat when a certain blonde called for her from behind.

"O-Oh! N-Naruto," She reddened at the sight of him.

"What're you doing out here? You wanna visit Nia or something."

"Um-"

"Don't be all shy," He grabbed her wrist and dragged her in. "Nia, Hinata was out here being too shy to walk in. She was just hanging around the door."

Nia made a face, realizing that the girl must've been eavesdropping on her conversation. Her eyes then darted downward to Naruto holding the Hyuga's wrist and immediately shot the harmless girl a glare.

"Um," Hinata quickly yet gently moved her wrist away, fearing Nia may had gotten the wrong idea.

"Hm? What's wrong?" The blonde cluelessly asked.

"N-Nothing, it's just-"

"Hi, Honey," Nia greeted, unaware of the fact that she had cut the Hyuga off. "How are you?"

"Oh, I'm feeling a thousand times better," He approached her, leaning downward for a kiss making Hinata visibly upset over.

However, when Nia eyed her, the girl pretended that she hadn't felt her heart shatter. She had to pretend that she had gotten over the blonde. She didn't wanna cause anymore problems with anyone.

"Oh man, is it storming out there," Naruto peered out the window as rain attacked the windows harshly. "Looks like we won't be heading out for a while."

"Of course not. We gotta wait till Nia and Kiba have recovered. That itself may take even more time. Perhaps, a couple to few days to be certain."

"I see," The ninja understood and took a seat beside Nia, grasping her hand in the hopes it'd help her feel more eased.

That did nothing for Hinata though; She felt nauseous every time her crush gave and showed her rival in love, care and attention. For months after, it remained as so.

~FLASHBACK ENDS~

'Even if she eventually apologized, I still...' Hinata lowered her eyes as a dark shadow casted over them.

I still love Naruto. I still want him. I still wanna be with him... no matter what.

Her hand then cupped over her mouth, tears making their way to her eyes. Inside, she was dying with heartbreak.

Her mind raced to the first time he  ever saved her. The first time he ever uttered his name out. Her love remained ever since that time he had saved her from the bullies that used to taunt her about her eyes.

The time she was left holding his scarf after it had been viciously ripped up by the other kids after the young Naruto had been beaten down.

All of those memories sprinkled down to her. The red scarf had drifted in her mind as she now watched her love kissing that of another girl. Nia may had her moment with him, but her time was running out.

Hinata was planning to knit the scarf back up as a last ditched effort... to earn the love of Naruto.
