Heart Broken

That morning, the class was rather noisy. (y/n) looked around the room as she sat down on her chair, murmuring a good-morning to her group of friends. The two girls who were chatting greeted her back. Feeling rather curious, (y/n) decided to ask the three friends about the rumor which was going around.

"It's about our homeroom teacher! They said she's leaving the school next week," one of the girls with the loudest voice blurted out.

"Wait, seriously?" (y/n) gasped.

"Apparently, yes. Someone from our class overheard the teachers saying that she's getting married," the other one with calm demeanor said.

"What, for real?!"

"I know what you mean, (y/n). Our little clumsy teacher is actually getting married! I am so glad for her. Still, I can't help but being sad about her leaving!" the loud one whined.

In the middle of the hurdle, the class' door sled open which revealed a rather short long-haired woman in her mid-twenty. Everyone, after scrambling to their seats started to bombard the woman with questions. The woman was rather surprised at first, but when the word 'marriage' was uttered the woman grinned while a slight blush adored her cheeks. The class gasped and clapped as they congratulated her.

"Ok class enough about me, I'll take attendance now!" the teacher's cheery voice rung out inside the classroom and she began mentioning everyone's name.

"Kuroo Tetsurou!" when called to that particular name, none was raising their hand.

"Oh, is he not here?" the woman looked around but saw no sign of the guy.

From her place, (y/n) starred at the vacant seat a bit far from hers. Her mind had pretty much figured why the said guy didn't attend the class even though his bag was left there. After all, she'd known him for almost three years now. Inside, she cursed at the thought of the bed-haired guy.

(y/n) sighed and raised her hand, for now she should cover for him, "He said he didn't feel well, so he went to the infirmary," she reasoned with that cliché excuse.

"I see," responded the woman surprisingly before continuing the list.

The class continued per usual after that, minus the attendance of a certain guy seated not far away from her which decided to let his bag attended the class instead of himself. Throughout the classes, (y/n) thought of a few possible places of his whereabouts. She should scold him for not letting her focus on her classes later.

(...)

"Screw you, Kuroo," she hissed under her breath as she took another step up the ladder, panting.

She had looked into the infirmary and found only the nurse there, she then went to the next possible place, the gym, but met with another disappointment. The last place she could think of was the rooftop and she really hoped that it would be the right one this time.

Upon arriving, she slammed the door open with what's left in her and was greeted by the strong wind with no one there to be seen. Anger boiled inside of her and with zero care she stomped her feet across the rooftop. She looked around, but indeed saw no one in sight. She bit her lips before finally losing her cool and screamed to the empty space, letting off the steam that had gathered inside of her.

She was panting when a voice called out to her, "sorry to interrupt your time of the day, but you're interrupting my sleep. So, can you tone it down?"

Upon meeting eyes with the owner of the voice, (y/n)'s jaw dropped. It's the object of her frustration, peeking from behind the rooftop entrance. Various feelings stirred inside (y/n)'s but the one which stood out the most was confusion.

"Wait, you, you were there all along?" her index finger was pointing out to him.

"No, I was up in the heaven before I fell here."

"Oof- the fall must've been hard enough that you ruined your face," (y/n) retorted by reflex.

"Well, the other angels were just too jealous I guess."

(y/n) sighed, feeling exhausted all of the sudden, then dropped her face to her open palm, "god, I thought you're dead."

"Woah, don't kill me just yet."

(y/n) lifted her head as Kuroo walked up toward her. His natural bed hair seemed worse than usual and his uniform was crumpled. If (y/n) were to guess, he must've moved a lot in his sleep. Standing up face to face, they looked into each other's eyes.

"Say, you've heard, right?" (y/n) decided to speak straight to the point.

"About what?" Kuroo tilted his head.

"Oh, don't you pretend like nothing's wrong now, Kuroo. We both know what I'm talking about," (y/n) crossed her arms while giving Kuroo a pout.

The two kept the eye contact for a bit, but Kuroo didn't seem to give any sign to speak up to her. Not wanting to continue the seemingly unfruitful attempt and miss the next class, (y/n) decided to be the mature one and stopped.

She shook her head then sighed, "have it your way then."

She waved her hand as she walked away from Kuroo after she heard the bell rung out. Kuroo watched the retreating figure of the girl then frowned to himself, his eyes seemed to peer into distance. Slowly, he followed the girl's trail, reminding himself that missing another class would be bad for his grade.

Two more days before their homeroom teacher's leave. (y/n) quickly left the classroom right after she heard the bell chimed. She felt frustrated and felt the need to let all the steam out. So she went to look for that one person who'd (probably) be ok to listen to all her venting.

"I swear, he is an idiot!" (y/n) shouted to the huge gym with rage resounding in her voice.

"And you can't change my mind, Yaku," she quickly said to the short male of the same age who stood not too far off from her with volleyball in his grip.

The so-called mom of Nekoma volleyball club shook his head, "Let him be (y/n). Even though he's good at volleyball, that doesn't guarantee he's good at this kind of thing."

"Yaku mom,"—the short male dared her to call him that again with a glare—"I don't know. Love is complicated I guess," she finished her sentence with a long sigh.

"As much as I want you to kick some sense into his head, I really don't want it to be awkward between the both of you. I think it's better to let him do as he see fit for now." Yaku made a serve with the volleyball he's been holding.

"But..." she frowned.

Yaku faced her, "(y/n), he's not a kid. He knows what to do, probably."

"Well, it's almost the end of our break. Don't you skip your class, (y/n)!" Yaku put the volleyball he'd been practicing with to its place and waved to the girl in a hurry, leaving the girl alone.

Thinking that there's no use for her to think of the matter any further, she decided to left it as it is and walked back to the class. She came to a conclusion that if the guy himself didn't want to open up to her about it, then so be it. Then a single thought invade her mind,

What if he thought that she mingled too much into his problem then hate her for it?

She flinched at the thought then quickly shook off the thought from her mind. She focused on her steps to ignore the negative assumptions forming in her mind. There's no use in thinking of what-ifs, she reminded herself.

(...)

A day left before their homeroom teacher was leaving and never once Kuroo admit his feeling toward the matter. To be completely honest, (y/n) had grown frustrated due to how obvious it was (like, who'd miss homeroom continuously for no reason? No, not Kuroo). (y/n) however reminded herself that she should be an adult and not push the topic further; if the guy himself didn't want to talk about it then so be it.

"Congratulation, teach!"

"We'll miss you so much!"

Everyone including (y/n) chimed as they gathered around the said homeroom teacher, a huge bouquet of white and pink roses given by everyone in her grasp while a smile adored her lips. (y/n) couldn't help but broke into a smile too. Her eyes then caught how Kuroo was staring into space even as he looked at their way from his seat. Yes, that guy attended homeroom after a great scolding in the teacher's office. Good thing actually, since (y/n) had started to grow tired of his antic.

'Can he not make it even more obvious?' (y/n) rolled her eyes then proceeded to walk toward the guy.

"Hey, don't you want to congratulate her?" she taped her index finger on his table as if to snap him into reality.

Kuroo looked surprised for a bit before switching his focus toward the girl and smirked, "What? Do I congratulating her would mean something to her?"

(y/n) rolled her eyes for the second time that day, "to be honest, probably not. But it might be for you," she sharply stated.

Kuroo then snorted, "(y/n)-chan," (y/n) squinted her eyes, she didn't like how he called her.

"I've been wondering about this for some time, but do you perhaps misunderstand something here?" he remarked with his usual smirk plastered on his face which looked a bit crooked in (y/n)'s opinion.

(y/n) quickly gave him that really look and glared at him, "Dude, for your information, my eye sight is 20/20 which probably means I won't miss such obvious act. Now tell me, which part do I misunderstand?" she said dauntingly toward Kuroo then walked away to her seat after she gave a frustrated slam on his table.

Kuroo looked down for a while before fixing his gaze on the grinning teacher.

Last day, Kuroo seemed gloomier and despite feeling bad plus a bit frustrated at him (y/n) decided to hold herself back from confronting the guy. 'It's not use,' she reminded herself. No one knew what would happened after anyway.

"(y/n), you seem quite well put today," (y/n)'s calm friend said teasingly at her.

"I don't feel like bothering him anymore is all. He can do whatever he likes for all I care," (y/n) rolled her eyes, crossing her arms to emphasis how frustrated she was.

"And you were real persistent just yesterday too, what happened? You finally get over him or something?" the other girl mocked as she grinned.

"Can the both of you just shut up?" she finally huffed, giving her two friends a glare to shoo them away.

"Whoops, we're sorry?" the cheerful one raised her hands up in defeat jokingly while the calm one chuckled.

While both of friends seemed happy enough to actually find something to tease (y/n) about, her eyes were fixated on Kuroo. Yet, never once did the male's back turned so he could face her. To (y/n), his actions spoke so loud to her. In her opinion, the constant ignoring just meant how insignificant she was to him. She asked herself as to why she still liked the guy when not even once he considered her as an object of interest.

(y/n) mulled over the guy, then sighed.

The lunch time bell rang. Not wanting to look at the object of her depression, (y/n) quickly went out of her class after telling her two friends that she's going to the cafeteria to buy some breads. On her way, she met Yaku who was going to the same destination which then they decided that they'd just walk together.

All the time they spent on reaching the cafeteria, (y/n)'s been looking down and spoke nothing. Taking on the hint that (y/n)'s been gloomy and didn't feel like talking, Yaku tried to not pry into the silence. So, he just waited 'till the girl felt like talking to him.

"Maybe it's time to move on," (y/n) said suddenly, breaking the silence that'd been on for about five-long-minutes.

"...wait, what did you say?"—the short male widen his eyes—"Did you seriously just say that?"

Never once in their three years of knowing each other (y/n) said something about moving on. That girl was always so persistent in keeping her feeling even when she found out that the so-called Black Cat actually liked their teacher a year ago. This of course, shocked Yaku greatly.

"You've been having that feeling since 2nd year. Are you sure you're just going to give up without telling him?" Yaku frowned at the girl.

"That's the problem. It's been 2 years of one-sided love! I just, I don't think I have a chance in the first place." (y/n) smiled wryly as she said this.

"I thought you told me before, that I have to let him be," her voice turned weak with each word she uttered.

"(y/n), you know that was not what I meant. What I meant was for you to just let him break his heart and console him when he needs it! It could be a good chance for you too. Don't you think so?" Yaku tried his best to convince the girl.

"But, why? Why should I care for him if he doesn't even acknowledge my existence? How can it suddenly be my responsibility to console him when he blatantly never did the same? Am I, am I just a tool to cheer him up?" her voice cracked as she held the tears that insisted on breaking free.

"(y/n)." Yaku called softly.

"Whatever, I don't care about him anymore. He can just be a stone head and die alone for all I care!" (y/n) shouted and ran away, leaving Yaku alone in the hallway while the students around him looking his way after the scene.

"(Y/n), wait! Argh, Kuroo you fool!" the male shouted, frustrated, not even minding the look people gave him.

(...)

For the first time that day, (y/n) skipped her class and hung out on the rooftop instead. She felt that she had no strength to even see the male's face and needed a break from the Kuroo-pitying thing. Who knows, maybe that guy would eventually realized that he needn't that young teacher in the first place and what matter was her all along, someone who'd cheered him a lot more than he realized. Maybe, he'd get lonely without her for once then looked for her just like how she always did. Of course he'd been thinking all night about what she said previously to self-reflect, right? That guy's pretty smart after all.

Getting depressed of all the things which were unlikely to happen that day, (y/n) decided to dismiss all the useless thoughts swirling in her mind. If it's going to happen, then it would happen and the other way around. If she had to end her feeling before it's said, then so be it. There's no use of stressing over it anymore. Looking up at the sky as she laid on her back, she finally let out a sigh of exhaustion and closed her eyes.

(...)

(y/n)'s eyes snapped open as her ears caught the last bell. She blinked several times, yawned, then sat down before her head looked to her right and left. Finally taking in all the information she had forgotten, she let out an 'oh'. Standing up and stretching her limb, she got out of the place ASAP, deciding that it's time to go home and get proper rest on a comfy bed. Her back kind of hurt from the hard floor after all.

'So much for making a certain someone miss me,' she thought, pitying herself a bit.

Reaching her almost empty class, her energetic friend who cleaned the class that day greeted her and started to throw several questions at her. She chucked and shrugged it off, telling her that she was feeling under the weather for some reasons. Good thing that she let her go pretty easily with that reasoning. Taking her bag, she let her gaze wandered to where the school gym located in.

'Should I pay them a visit?' she pondered.

'Not today, I guess," she decided pretty quickly.

To be honest, she was probably just afraid of meeting Kuroo. You see, meeting your unrequited love was just not an easy task, especially knowing that it's been going on for two years. So, that evening she made a mental note to buy a bucket of fried chicken on her way home. She also started wondering what movies should she binge watch to keep her awake in the night.

(y/n) was almost at the gate when she stopped her step. Her eyes widen at the sight before her. There stood Kuroo, but no, he wasn't looking her way, instead he looked longingly toward a woman who was laughing so happily along with a man taller than her—her husband, (y/n) assumed. The couple smiled at each other before the man let the woman came inside his car on the passenger seat while he occupied the other seat. The car went away, leaving both Kuroo and (y/n) alone.

'So he didn't manage to say it.'

(y/n) was about to get angry at her idiotic friend, but didn't find the heart when she looked at the face he's making—it's of longing and regret; (y/n) could even see his eyes glistening a bit. She sighed and strode to the guy then pat his back as hard as she could, taking Kuroo by surprise.

"Cheer up, big boy!"

Kuroo was taken aback for a while before looking down. After taking a deep breath, he looked back up and gave (y/n) a crooked smile, guess looking at that scene previously had crushed his poor heart even more that he couldn't even give her a proper Cheshire-like grin like he usually did.

"C'mon, accompany me to buy some fried chicken. We're having a heart-break party for the both of us at my place tonight." She urged Kuroo.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Shut up, are you coming or not?"

"I will if you let me decide on the movie."

"Deal."
