~ ONE ~
I stared out my bedroom window and watched the rain fall. The relaxing pitter-patter of the rain hitting the tin roof soothed me. My heart rate slowed to a normal steady beat and I felt at peace. As I got older my panic disorder had gotten worse. After a bad panic attack last year, Beauxbatons wouldn't take me back for my 6th year of schooling and my friends didn't want to see me anymore. My summer has been one that I could only describe as lonesome.
My Aussie dog, Henri, laid on the tops of my feet. His black service dog vest was already strapped to his back. I sighed knowing what was coming next. Mum walked through the door with a stern expression on her face
" Rose Barnette if you do not get down said stairs soon we will miss your train!" Her french accent was thick, something that happened when she was annoyed, especially with me.
"Sorry mum, I am coming." my voice was smooth, something that didn't happen much anymore. I frowned as I walked down the stairs with Henri on my heels.
My trunk was sitting in the middle of the room and my mother and father were standing beside it waiting for me. My broom wasn't propped up beside it. I glanced around the room and found it sticking out from behind the couch. They were trying to hide it from me. They didn't approve of me playing Quidditch. They say it's too violent but I play it anyway. If i'm good at it i'm certainly not going to quit. I walked over and grabbed it. I laid it across the top of my trunk and took hold of my mom's hand.I put on a fake smile as they apparated to the train station at which i would catch my train to Hogwarts.
Platform 9 ¾ was nothing like the farewells to Beauxbatons. It was absolute madness. The loud sounds made my heart hammer in my chest but I tried to remain as calm as I could. I glanced around and my eyes landed on an odd exchange going on closer to the train. Two women were staring eachother down. Behind one woman was a boy with unruly hair and rectangle glasses and another boy with long wavy hair. The other woman had a boy with a similar appearance to the boy with long hair standing behind her. She looked mighty angry with the people standing across from her. The boy with the long hair caught my gaze. I quickly averted my gaze and hugged my parents goodbye.
I felt really out of place in my Beauxbatons uniform. I wouldn't receive my hogwarts robes until I reached the castle and talked to Professor Dumbledore. I walked past many compartments in the train until I found one that was empty in the middle of the train. I slid the door open and Henri ran into the compartment before I took my hand off the door. I rolled my eyes as I sat down and leaned my head on the window. Henri hopped up on the seat and pawed my thigh, alerting me that someone was coming down the aisle of the train. The two boys I saw earlier stopped in front of the door and slid it open. The boy with unruly hair sent me a toothy smile.
"Mind if we sit here?"
"Not at all." I said. I hope they are nice, unlike the boys at Beauxbatons. The one with the long hair sent me a confused look.
" You have stranded a bit far from Beauxbatons, don't you think?" I glanced down at my uniform and blushed and my calmed heart rate picked up again.
"Uh yes, I'll be attending Hogwarts this year."
"I didn't catch a name."
"Rose."
"Im Sirius and this is James, Nice to meet you Rose. I don't know about Beauxbatons but i'm almost certain a dog is not on the choice of animals you can bring." He said motioning to Henri. I laughed.
"This is Henri," I said scratching henri behind the ears. "He is my service dog."
"Service for what exactly?" James asked
"I need Henri incase- " I was cut off by two boys bursting into the compartment taking james and sirius' attention.
"Peter, Remus, I was starting to think you missed the train." James teased the two boys.
Remus scratched the back of his head awkwardly and Peter laughed. Remus was tall with mousy brown hair and a few scars running over the bridge of his nose. Peter was most likely the shortest of the boys but he was still a decent height. He had styled blonde hair and a toothy smile that reminded me of james'.
"Remus, Peter," Sirius motioned over to me and Henri who had taken his seat on top of my feet. "This is Rose and Henri."
Peter looked at the dog excitedly. "May I pet him. He looks really fluffy."
"Sure." I smiled.
"Nice to meet you Rose." Remus stuck his hand out to me and I shook it. We spent the train ride laughing and the boys talked about their summers and james talked about some girl named lily.
The train came to a stop and the boys stood up.
"Hogwarts at last!" James yawned. We filed out of the train and I got my first view of the castle. The bright candle light reflected off the dark blue of the lake. The stars in the night sky were stunning especially as you got closer to the castle. Sirius leaned over and whispered in my ear.
"If you don't come catch the last carriage you are going to have to swim to hogwarts." His voice was smooth but deep and I felt shivers run down my spine.
I turned and followed him to the last remaining carriage. He motioned for me to go first. I tried to step up into the carriage but it turns out that my blue pencil skirt was not having it. I got frustrated after many attempts of trying to lift my leg high enough and eventually I stopped and looked angrily at the ground.
"Let me help you there love" Sirius chuckled from behind me. He picked me up by the waist and set me down in the carriage. I felt my cheeks heat up in embarrassment and I fiddled with my hands as I sat down beside Remus. Henri, who had jumped into the carriage long before I actually got in, jumped off Peter and James' laps and came over and sat on my feet. Sirius pulled himself into the carriage and sat in between me and Remus and the carriage set off to Hogwarts.
