Prologue

The last days of reign of emperor Yertan III were filled with pain and sorrow. He would have been calm if he had descendants awaiting for his crown and legacy. However, the future of Sandmar Empire was in hands of lesser lords trying to gain power through their cunning skills. As the last of the lineage, he will end the glory days of dynasty. At the age of 73 his eyes closed forever, and the winds took his soul.

The same night when the emperor crossed the gate of immortality, something strange happened. At first came winds, stronger than usual with ascending power. Then the sky opened to release all available raindrops. Then thunder and lightning appeared, showing their power one by one. The element concentrated above the ancient Asghar temple, set behind the walls of the empire's capital. Single lightning bolts touched the building one by one, only to strike it with one powerful stream of energy coming from the sky. The energy penetrated the temple, divided and concentrated on the opposite corners of the floor inside of the temple. Soon it seemed that divine energy created two entities having features of mankind.

As fast as storm appeared it stopped and the sky again reached the shade of blue, just as nothing happened. However, on the temple's floor there were lying two figures in frayed gray garments. The figures looked like they were tortured, because their bodies were covered by wounds. The wounds soon closed and there were no signs of battle on their bodies. They were surrounded by energy coming out from their bodies. Suddenly, they opened eyes. The eyes of the first were like darkness, the eyes of the latter were like blue lightning. They looked at each other and the battle began. During battle they noticed silver item shining on the ground. It was a sword, but not crafted by anyone who ever mastered the art of blacksmithing. Both warriors wanted to grab the sword, but blue lightning warrior was faster. He used all his power in the attack and the silver item opened the wound on the body of opponent. With every second warrior of darkness was becoming less powerful. The wound was hot as iron and it was almost boiling, but soon the wound was covered by black ash- like tissue. Realizing the battle is lost, the black warrior escaped. The winner felt that the danger is gone, and his blue lightning eyes became blue, just as the eyes of ordinary people. Then the warrior approached to place where he found the sword and noticed that there was writing on the floor, and on the sword. Having read it he understood everything. This day, a new era has started. Era of Thunder.

-...And that would be enough my lord to know the origins of creation of the New Gods. So all you need to know for today is, there are three Gods: Asghar- Old God Creator, Rignar- Warrior of Darkness, God of Death. Amandil- Warrior of Lightning, God of Thunder.- said master Doses, scholar and counselor of the kings.

- Master Doses, what was the writing on the sword?- asked Ricard, twelve year old black haired boy, firstborn of prince Nigel.

- I cannot tell because nobody knows where the sword is...- replied the old man

- It's alright, and what was on the other writing?- continued young boy

- That I can tell...the warrior who will survive will be successor of Asghar, because Old God is very old, that is why he sent their two sons on our continent...

- But if the first possess that mighty sword, the latter has no chance...so Amandil will be the winner...and why does Old God wants one of his sons to be dead...that's sad- stated Ricard, his face showed the sign of sorrow as well as excitement

-Don't be sad my lord, Old God did this to made right decision- master tried to comfort the boy

-I'm not sad master, maybe I'm too young to understand this...-replied boy

-I'm very old, I taught your father and his father...in my eyes you're very wise, and one day when your time will come, you will be a sage king- said master with smile on his face

- I will not disappoint you master, you will be proud of me- answered young Ricard

- Now my lord if you don't mind we shall go, it's time for your horse riding lesson.
