×THIRTY-THREE×
After an embarrassing experience with your mother, you decided you'd go and get some fresh air and clear your thoughts. Hiccup ended up not being able to back out like you did, and was stuck with your mother as she questioned him relentlessly. She was a stubborn woman, almost as stubborn as a Viking, and so it wasn't easy getting out of a situation when she intended for it to happen. The poor boy, though. Stuck with your weird, crazy mother. You sat outside, on the stone step that acted as a front porch to your childhood home. Astra and Toothless had come to see how things had gone, but with not much happening related to your predicament, you had little to talk about. "Where's Hiccup?" Toothless asked, head tilted to the side.
His question made you chuckle, hoping your mother wasn't being all too much of an embarrassment. "He's fine, Tooth. My mother wanted to speak with him, and well...let's just say she's probably interrogating him." Toothless crooned, laughing at his rider. "But she won't do anything bad. She means well. Just think, she's not seen me in twelve years, and now I have a boyfriend, and my father's arranging a marriage for me. It's all so messy and complicated, so I know she won't push him too much." You ran a hand down Astra' s snout, then scratched under her chin. She gave a warbled purr of delight, dropping her head on your lap. Toothless wound himself around the both of you, head resting on the other side of your lap. You smiled down at them, giving Toothless some scratches too. You'd ask about their relationship at another time, right now was too overwhelming with your own.
A young man walked by your home and jumped as if startled. It seemed less like the dragons were his issue, and more like he had seen a ghost. He came up, looking anxious. "I'm sorry to be a bother, but your name's not (name), by any chance is it?" You looked up at this tall, lanky boy. He was skinnier than Hiccup, with darker brown, almost black hair and brown eyes. "Yes, I am. Do I know you?" He frowned, but you saw the glimmer of hope and happiness in his eyes. "It's me, Peter? We were good friends when we were little?" You shook your head. "Look, I'm sorry but I don't really remember a lot from my childhood before I spent the rest of it with dragons. I can remember my parents and the family crest, but that's about it." He shrugged as if he had no hope of you remembering him.
"That's all good, I thought I'd ask though," he took a step towards you, but Astra lifted her head a bit and growled at him, warning him to stay back. "Whoa, Astra, it's okay girl." You said, trying to soothe her with strokes on the snout. But she kept her eyes on him, a low growl deep in her throat. "I know that smell anywhere. He smells like one of the people that tried to hurt you that night." You tensed at her words. She had told you that a group of three men had tried to take you the night she saved you, smelling intentions that weren't very pleasant on them. Was one of those men Peter's father? You hardly remembered him, let alone anyone else but your parents. "Stay back," she growled, eyes narrowed into slits, "I won't let your kind hurt my sister again."
Peter looked surprised. You knew he couldn't understand what Astra was saying, but he could tell she was being extremely hostile. "Have I done something wrong?" He asked, trying to tear his eyes away from the hardened glare your dragon was giving him. "You...remind her of a bad memory. She's just on edge, that's all." He looked surprised but didn't attempt to come any closer, instead leaning on the garden gate that bordered the property. "I'm sorry about that. I know what my father did, or well, tried to do. He says many things when he's drunk. I try my best to avoid him, but it's hard when you still live at home and don't have a wife." You winced at the word wife. That's why you were here. You silently prayed to Odin that your father wasn't going to force you to marry Peter. You loved Hiccup, there was no way you'd let him marry you off to someone that was a stranger to you. "What's funny is that—"
"(Name), love, who are you talking to?" Hiccup had cut you off unknowingly, coming outside as if he finally managed to slip away from your mother. You sighed in relief. "Oh hey, Hic. It's just someone that I used to know." You glanced over at Peter, who seemed uncomfortable with Hiccup's presence. It may have been the cultural difference, or it may have been the fact he had called you 'love'. Whatever the reason, his expression fell from interest to disgust. "Oh, well it's nice to meet you..." Peter glanced away, then back at Hiccup. "Peter."
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Peter. My name's Hiccup." You could see all friendliness Peter had towards you vaporise within an instant as he spoke to Hiccup. "What kind of name is 'Hiccup'?" He asked, laughing cruelly. "It's a—" You held your hand out, cutting him off. This boy had no right to be kind to you, and hostile to Hiccup. "That's the kind of name that the Chief of Berk has, and the kind of name that my boyfriend has." Hiccup crouched down to your side, hand on your shoulder. He could tell you were agitated and losing your patience, and wanted to try and calm you down. The look on Peter's face, however, gave you the satisfaction that you wanted. He looked horrified, intimidated and disgusted all at once. "Hey, why don't we go take a flight? Calm your nerves before you explode." You looked up at Hiccup and smiled. He smiled back and pecked you on the lips, before standing up again. "C'mon, bud." He said, getting Toothless to uncoil around you and Astra. She also rose, allowing you to stand. Hiccup held out his hand and you gratefully took it, letting him pull you up. He purposely tugged a little too hard, to make you stumble into his chest.
He was just as salty as you, and you loved that about him. You quickly cupped his cheeks, pecking him on this lips but he turned it into a longer, sweeter kiss. When you pulled back, smiling at each other, you had realised that Peter had scoffed and walked off. "Well, that plan worked." You said, laughing to yourself. He shook his head, still smiling at you. "Let's still go for that flight. It looks like you're itching to get off the ground." He helped you up onto Astra's back, even though you could easily get up yourself, then made his way over to his dragon and mounted him.
"Hic, love, you have no idea."
