Crystals
It was much busier than Kakashi had wished, and he countlessly ran into his fellow shinobi the entire time he had spent at the market picking out groceries, including Naruto who kept asking questions about where he had been.
"Come on, Kakashi! There's gotta be something you can tell me!" Naruto complains.
Jiraiya nudges Naruto in the side and shakes his head.
"Give him some time, Naruto. He just got back."
"Oh alright." Naruto pouts.
Kakashi ignores them as best he can, focusing all his attention on his favorite snack, dragon fruit. As he picks one up to check if it is ripe a familiar glimmer to his right draws him completely away from his comrades and over to a crystal stand. It was a very small stand and if the sun were not situated so low in the sky reflecting off the crystals he would have never seen it. But as the light hits the crystals perfectly, fractals of rainbows speckle the ground and walls of the market. It reminded him so much of her, there were even rubies hung from silver chains on the stand cover and orbs of Jade situated on wood carved stands that reminded him of the spring.
Suddenly the crystal in his pocket begins to pulse with energy the closer he gets to the rubies. He pulls it from his pocket to find it glowing in a white light. He flips it around to the symbol engraved in it and examines it.
"That's quite the crystal you have." A female voice says, but not just any female voice...
He looks up and his heart stops beating, shocked to see the very woman who has stolen every thought in his mind. The very woman who had shown him how to love again. The woman who had given him the mystic eye. There she stands in the sunlight, her creamy hair glistening down her shoulders, those beautiful catlike eyes piercing the world around him, that pretty mouth he can still taste on his tongue, and gods...a yellow sundress that swishes when she walks.
She approaches him with that warm smile she always has.
"May I see it?" She asks, holding out her hand.
Kakashi, too stunned to say anything, drops it into her hand and continues to watch her only glancing down at the crystal once to put it into her hand.
"Fascinating..." She says, holding it up into the sunlight causing gold flecks of light to glisten in her eyes. "This has a high vibration of energy, where did you find such a thing?"
The confusion of her question brings him out of his daze.
"It's yours." He says stately.
She laughs and hands it back to him.
"Oh no, I would not be able to take this from you, these are treasures meant to be kept. But thank you for the offer."
That's not what he meant. But for some reason he can't tell her. Because now she is looking deep into his eyes, studying him the way she always did.M, drawing him into that daze again.
"Do I know you?" She asks, her brows furrowing.
And Kakashi is abruptly slapped on the back by Jiraiya, startling them both.
"Who is this lovely sight?" He asks, eying her up.
She blushes at the comment but only glances at Jiraiya for a moment.
"My name is Luna." She holds out her hand to Kakashi who is still dumbfounded by her presence.
He shakes her hand slowly, trying to understand what is happening.
"My name is..."
"Naruto! That's my name!" Naruto says, overly excited as he interrupts.
Kakashi rolls his eyes in his direction and Jiraiya takes her hand from Kakashi, kissing it before he introduces himself.
"Jiraiya. It's a pleasure to meet you."
She bows her head and turns her gaze back to Kakashi.
"Your turn."
"Kakashi." He says simply.
She looks at everyone and smiles warmly.
"Are you all shinobi?"
"That's right!" Naruto answers.
"Amazing! I don't think I've ever seen so many shinobi in one place. I am honored!" She bows.
"Yeah...we're kind of a big deal..." Naruto replies smugly.
"I would say so." She laughs. Bringing pain to Kakashi's heart. This was all so surreal for him, like the world has glitched and made a mistake. Or maybe he was dreaming, it has been hard to tell what is real and what is not since his experience with Luna.
"Excuse me miss!" A customer calls from behind her.
She glances behind her.
"Looks like I have a customer, it was nice to meet you all." Her gaze lingers on Kakashi longer than the others, almost like she was trying to remember something. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking.
"I guess I will see you guys around."
"You got it!" Naruto says.
"Luna..I..." Kakashi begins only to be interrupted by Jiraya.
"Come by the Sengoku anytime, Kakashi would love to show you around I'm sure of it." He pats Kakashi on the back with a sly expression.
She bites her lip staring up at him with doe eyes. Kakashi scratches the back of his head, overwhelmed with this entire encounter.
"Anytime. You can come see me anytime." He manages to say through the jumble of questions he has in his mind.
"I would love that!" She replies.
"Miss please! I don't have much time." The customer calls.
"Have a great day you guys." She waves and leaves to take care of the impatient customer.
Kakashi watches her for a few moments, etching new subtle details into his mind. Yellow sundress, lace at the bottom, her hair tied back on one side with a sparkling barrette, skin that shines in the sunlight. She is exactly the same as before only she doesn't remember him. She doesn't remember any part of what they had been through together.
"Kakashi?" Jiraya nudges him. "Do you know her?"
He looks at him trying to hold back his emotions which are in overload right now. Jiraya holds a concerned eye with him until he responds.
"It's her." Kakashi says in a whisper.
"What?" Jiraya leans forward closer to him.
"It's her!"
"Who?"
"The Saigo-nin."
Jiraya's mouth drops open.
"How is that possible?"
"I don't know..." Kakashi replies, he begins to panic, unsure of what he is feeling and how to cope with it. Unsure if he is imagining things or if she was actually here in the flesh.
"You guys want to go get some Ramen?I'm starving!" Naruto suggests.
"I'm going to head home. I'm pretty tired." Kakashi replies, and walks away from the two leaving no room for any more questions. He is no longer able to participate in normal conversation.
He can hear his friends talking about him as he leaves but ignores it. He has one thing on his mind right now and that is to drown his feelings. He will start with a hot shower, drink a bottle of sake, then lie on his deck and watch the stars while he comes up with a logical answer to all of this...
