Ellie walked home, holding her phone to her ear as she talked.

"Yeah, I'm two blocks away" she spoke softly, the buzz of alcohol was wearing off of her.

"I could of came and picked you up, I don't like you walking home alone at this time" Joel said over the phone.

"I'm fine dad, it's just a few minutes away" she walked, not listening to the footsteps behind her.

"Alright baby girl" Joel sighed softly.

"Hey, I'm in a streetlight section, is it safe for me to hang up?" She asked, Joel sighed again "fine, but if anything happens you call me straight away"

"I will dad" she smiled.

"I love you El"

"I love you too dad" Ellie smiled as she hung up, walking through the lit up street.

"That your new foster dad?" A voice said from behind her, Ellie turned around.

A blonde boy was leaning on a street lamp, smirking. That fucking smirk.

"Why are you here James? I don't want to be near you" she fished around for the knife she always had, and swore when she remembered that she'd left it on her nightstand.

"I've missed you" his eyes looked over her, she was so used to it.

"Fuck off" Ellie took a few steps back, she was a minute away and she was fast, faster than most girls her age.

"Such bad language" James followed her footsteps, almost mirroring them.

"I'll call the cops,they'll take you away" she threatened.

"No they won't" he chuckled, following her steps.

Ellie started to speed up, she was minutes away. A couple minutes until she was safe at home.

She began to run, sprinting into the woods, she had used the shortcut so many times to get home early from school.

James followed her, Ellie pulled branches off trees, throwing them at him even if it scratched up her hands.

She saw the familiar lights of her neighbours house come into view, running faster.

She remembered one thing about James, he couldn't climb. He was fucking terrible at it, she took a chance, vaulting over the fence to her neighbours garden, running faster and doing the same to the connecting fence.

She banged on the glass door, Joel got up quickly and opened the door, hugging Ellie quickly.

"Are you ok? What's wrong?" He asked, closing and locking the door, shutting the blinds.

Ellie let it all out, she had been utterly terrified the whole time,James had always terrified her, the way he watched her, it wasn't like David did, David saw her as some kind of child needing help.

James saw her as prey.
