HOTR - Chapter Twenty-Two

Monday, July 22nd, 2019

I need to call my parents and let them know that I will be late. Just seeing him makes me want to launch my fist in his face.

(Kai Braxton)

I have never seen a more vile person in my life. I sat in my SUV and heard the whole conversation between the guys standing with him.

Friend #1 - "How is your family?"

Kai - "Everything is going great. I'm with someone that I want to be with."

Both of the friends had a strange look on their faces after hearing that answer.

Friend #2 - "Why did you string your ex around like you did if you didn't want to be with her? You appeared excited about it. What was her name - Kim? She seemed really nice."

Kai - "I wanted no part of that relationship. That fiasco was for my parents. I saw my chance to escape the day she went into the hospital."

I was ten seconds from ramming my fists down his throat. He is one sick and twisted piece of dirt, and I can't stand him. The conversation continued.

Friend #2 - "You do realize she almost died, not to mention her parents had to choose between your child and Kim?"

Kai - "Thankfully, I don't have to worry about that anymore. If you care about her so much, why didn't you date her?"

Friend #2 - "I did want to date her but didn't because I don't believe in taking a girl from someone I considered a friend. You know what? Kai, you need serious help to think so low of a woman who almost died and lost a child because of a drunk driver."

Kai - "Whatever, dude."

The friend was about to lunge at Kai but was held back. Friend #2 - "You're a sick man! A sick man!"

I seriously wanted to get out of my SUV and pummel Kai Braxton into the ground, but I followed him instead. He has no remorse at all about the way he left Kimi. I hate the man. I really do.

He probably is going to work, I'm assuming. He's traveling the way I normally take to my parent's building. He turned into the parking lot that is next to my parent's building.

I quickly parked my SUV and was able to snap a picture of his license plate. Mrs. Braxton is going to find out what type of man she married.

Kimi and Ryley are on their way up the elevator. Should I tell her about what happened this morning?

"Daddy!!" Ryley screamed as she ran into my office. Kimi walked in with several bags from In-N-Out Burger.

"I couldn't carry any drinks with me. I bought burgers and fries for us."

"Let's go to my conference room." After getting my smooch, I took the bags from Kimi, and we walked to my conference room.

"Wow, I am impressed. You have your own conference room?"

"I sure do. Ryley, get what you want to drink out of the kitchen. Get something for Kimi too."

"Okay, daddy." While Ryley skipped into the kitchen, I told Kimi what I saw.

"I saw Kai this morning at Starbucks. I never knew that a person could be so vile. One of his friends almost beat him up after what came out of his mouth. I almost punched him myself."

"Ryder, I could care less about Kai Braxton. Too bad he didn't get beat up."

"He's married with kids."

"I'm not surprised. Screw him. I have you and Ryley now. I'm happy with you. I just hope that I will be able to have our kids in the future. Ryder Cooper Ellis, don't get yourself locked up over that piece of trash. Kai isn't worth it."

"Babydoll, he needs to feel some of the pain. It's not fair for him to just walk around pain-free while you suffered. It hurts me to hear you crying sometimes at night. I can't let him get away with it."

"Ryder, as long as you are there to help me cope, that's all that matters to me."

Ryley came back into the conference room with my mother. "Daddy, I found grandma in the kitchen."

My mother walked over to Kimi and hugged her. "Hi, Kimi. It's good to see you."

"Hi, Blair. It's good to see you too. Ryley and I came to have lunch with Ryder."

"Grandma, want some of my fries?" Ryley says while holding her fries up to my mother.

"Oh, no sweetie. Enjoy your lunch with Kimi and your daddy. Ryder, I'll see you later." My mother then left the room.

"What would you like to have for dinner?"

"Surprise me. I'll be leaving at 5 pm tonight." I have a stop to make before coming home.

"Ryder, promise me you will not get yourself in trouble because of Kai. I already lost a baby. I'm not losing you to prison. Understand?"

"I promise I won't go to jail." I won't go to jail, but I want him to feel the pain too. I'll think of a way to make him pay.

Before I left work, I checked the license plate number that I took a picture of on the DMV's website. I wrote down the address, turned off my laptop, grabbed my briefcase, and got myself ready to leave for the day.

"Stacey, I am leaving a few minutes earlier today. Have a great evening, and I'll see you tomorrow."

"Thanks, Ryder. Have a good evening too."

Now, let's go see how 'Jerk of the Millennium' lives.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The jerk lives in Glendale and works in Los Angeles. He lives in a nice area judging by his house.
His wife is in the yard, playing with his three kids. One of the kids looks older than Ryley, which means he cheated on Kimi when they were engaged. He is a heartless piece of trash, but how should I go about this?
I better stop and bring something home for Ryley and Kimi because I know they will wonder why I am late.
Kai's POV
Can it be Friday already? This day has been one of the worse Mondays ever. After pulling into the driveway and parking my SUV, I got out and went inside the house.
"Daddy! Daddy!" I leaned down to hug my kids.
"Where's mommy?"
"In the kitchen, daddy. Mommy is mad," my oldest daughter says.
She must be because I hear her slamming things. The moment I stepped into the kitchen, I should have left.
"Why did I receive a phone call from an unknown number saying my husband is not who I think he is? Not to mention receiving a text to ask my husband about Kimberly Forester. Someone also stuck a letter under the front door to ask my husband what happened five years ago. So, start talking! You are not eating dinner either until you answer my question. Who is Kimberly Forester, and what happened five years ago?!"
Who sent Sienna a text, called her, and stuck a letter under the front door?!
"Five years ago, Kimberly Forester and I were engaged to be married. I proposed to her on graduation day from college. That same day, she told me she was three months pregnant with our baby girl."
"Let me get this straight - you were engaged to be married to someone while we were dating? Not to mention, we had Sierra, who was two years old at the time."
I could tell Sienna was highly irritated because she started slamming a soup spoon on the counter. "I didn't know she would be pregnant."
"You're only worried because she got pregnant?! You were okay with playing two women at the same time?! And, let me guess - your parents didn't know we were together."
"Look, I didn't want to be in that relationship. That was for my parents."
"So why weren't you man enough to tell her that? Or tell your parents? Instead, you proposed and got her pregnant! Where's the child? And, why didn't you tell your parents about me?!"
"My parents were always envious of the Forester's because of there success. They wanted me to date Kim for the Forester's money. I wanted no part of it."
"But you went along with it anyway. You're family is sick! Money is not a cure for everything!! You have been lying to me since sophomore year of college! Get out of my face!"
"What happened was at six months pregnant, Kim was struck by a drunk driver on her way to work. While she was in the hospital, I saw that as my chance to leave the relationship. So, I walked away. I found out through the news that the baby died. That's why my family moved to Glendale."
"You left a pregnant woman in the hospital to fight not only for her life but for her child too?! She lost your child, and you are sitting here calm and okay with that?! Sierra, Tiffany, and Kai Jr. pack a bag because we are going to Nana's house!!"
"C'mon, Sienna. You don't have to leave." I blocked the kitchen exit so she couldn't leave.
"Get out of my way before I grab a knife! It will not end well for you. I'm not staying in the same house with a man who thinks it is okay to dump a pregnant woman fighting for the lives of her and her daughter. Move, Kai!!!"
Sienna walked over to the kitchen drawer where we keep the knives and grabbed the biggest one. I moved out of the way fast.
"Mommy, why do we have to pack?" Sierra asked.
"Because your father is a snake!! Expect to hear from my lawyer, Kai, because this marriage is over!!" Sienna stormed up the stairs and to our room. Who in the heck told her about this?
Ryder's POV
Thank goodness vacation begins tomorrow. I stopped at Starbucks for a pick-me-up to help me make it through the day. After receiving my drink, I made my way out of the store and to my SUV.
My phone rang, so I checked it and saw that Kimi was calling me.
"You should have taken the day off. Check your text messages. I sent you something to help you make it through the day."
Sure enough, I received Kimi's text and checked it. She sent a sexy picture of her in a red, two-piece negligee. "Kimi Forester, you are fortunate I am not home. Otherwise, you would be in trouble. I'm leaving early today, so I'll be home around one o'clock."
"You better be. Ryley wants to say hi. Hold on."
"Hi, daddy. Can you bring me a brownie pop from Starbucks?"
"I'll pick it up on the way home this afternoon. See you later, princess."
"Thank you. Bye-bye, Daddy."
As soon as I hung up the phone, trouble came my way - Kai Braxton.
"Excuse me, but did you just get off the phone with Kimberly Forester?"
"Excuse me, but were you listening to my conversation? It's none of your business whom I was talking to."
"It is my business because you are the one who ended my marriage! Who are you to be telling my wife what happened five years ago?!"
He took a swing at me and missed. Does he think I told his wife what happened? Someone told her because it wasn't me. I thought about it but didn't do it. I'm not that cold to break a father from his children. I punched him right in the face and watched him fall to the ground.
"First of all, you ended your marriage by not telling your wife what happened. You're nothing but a two-timing loser. Second of all, you left a pregnant woman in the hospital to die. Not once did you visit Kimi in the hospital! Not even one time. You never even checked on her to see if she was okay. Yes, I am dating Kimi. And, yes, Kimi told me what happened. You are one sick piece of trash, and I would pound you into the ground if I had the time. But I don't. You better stay away from Kimi, or so help me, I will hurt you. Now, get out of my way before I drive over you with no regret whatsoever!"
By the time I got in my SUV and put my key in the ignition, he got off the ground and left. What a punk.
Friday, August 16th, 2019
My parents let us use the private jet for the trip to Maui. We are on our way to the airport now. Both Kimi and Ryley have smiles on their faces.
I bribed Ryley to not blab our secret. See, this trip has a two-fold purpose - a vacation trip before Ryley goes to school. And, Ryley and I plan to propose to Kimi.
I can't wait for another minute. I love Kimi very much, and I am ready for the next step. Why wait?
After driving to my parent's hangar, I parked the SUV. Kimi, Ryley, and I got out of my SUV. Kimi and I loaded a tram with our luggage then we took a quick ride to the plane.
Once the tram came to a complete stop, Ryley got off and ran up the steps to the plane.
"Ryder, I'll load the luggage. Why don't you and Kimi board the plane?"
"Thank you, Thomas."
"You're welcome. Enjoy your trip."
Kimi and I then boarded the plane. Ryley likes a window seat, so that is where she sat. I glanced out the window, and Thomas gave me a thumbs up. Our flight attendant closed the door, and the plane steps were taken away.
The seatbelt sign came on, so we buckled up. It went out after five minutes. The flight attendant went over where everything was on the plane. Once done, she walked towards the cockpit.
The pilot started the plane. "Ryley, sweetie, are you ready to have some fun?" Kimi asked her.
Ryley looked my way, and thankfully she didn't give our secret away. "Yes, Kimi."
The plane drove down the runway and began to take off in the air. I shouldn't be nervous at all. But I am. Hopefully, Kimi will say yes, and my dreams can finally come true.
