Chapter 9
Stepping out of his cell, Jerod gawked around. The last image he had of her, she flew above deck. However, Kaito and Egypt were in the brig with them. "Commander Nimrode," the Rekin spoke as black smoke rose of his body, "do you have any orders?" Jerod watched as his power grew in strength. He turned his attention back towards the Icerr, it had to have been an intimidation tactic. Only a gifted few Rekin's possessed magic abilities.
"I don't." Nimrode answered, "I trust you know how to handle yourself in combat?"
The Rekin made a 'tsk' sound as his white skin turned an ashy grey, "Have I ever failed your service?" Jerod turned towards Nimrode searching his face for an answer. The Rekin looked to be no older than Cassandra, early twenties if he had a guess. With as long as they had been lost as sea, how would they know each other personally?
"Draco Dragacana, he is the rarest form of Rekin," Nimrode began as he disappeared in a shadow and charged towards the Icerr, "Most Rekins are born s humans with various types of bird wings. Draco, on the other hand, was born of a Neek." Jerod snapped his head towards the battle. He thought Neeks didn't exsit. They were a rare form of Dragons that were read about in fairy tales.
"His mother had the ability to shape shift into any form she chose. Living or other. His father, was the best archer in my platoon." Nimrode chuckled, as Egypt jumped into the air only to land on Kaito instead of her intended target. "Even as a hatchling, he was giving his parents a run for their money. I'm proud that he joined a guild and did something with his life."
Jerod gritted his teeth. They had both missed out on so much. Now was not the time to be spectators, if they wanted to escape, now had to be the time or freedom would never come. "Holy showers!" Jerod through his arms out allowing a circle to appear over Kaito and Egypt. Swords rained down upon them. This was his favorite spell, it was also his strongest, it takes a while to save up engry to cast it.
Draco dodged the attack and flew up to the main deck. Jerod and Nimrode follow suit. As they poke their head out, bells began tolling somewhere behind him. The Rekin had already shot past many pirates, knocking them unconscious. Now, he stood before the man that brought him down the first time. Jerod glanced around as more Icerr rushed towards them.
"Holy Radiance!" Jerod's body began glowing as he ran towards an incoming Icerr. Smirking, he pulled his fist back and punched him in the face, sending him flying backwards. As long as he was wrapped in the light, his strength was doubled. The door to the Captain's Cabin slammed open as Eliza stormed out. Her lips were pulled into a thin line, her brows furrowed. Someone was not happy about being pulled away from whatever she had her mind set on accomplishing.
"What is all the ruckus about?" She hissed. Jerod turned his head away. Did anyone really have to answer that given how the answer was right in front of her? "What are you men doing out of your cells?" Eliza grabbed the hilt of her sword as she spoke. "Where is the girl?" Jerod turned back towards her. Why should he tell her where their secret weapon was hiding?
"I'm right here!" A voice boomed from behind her. Eliza whirled around. The mage ran up the steps as a dark mist began rolling out of the room. Cassandra hovered in the mists of it. Her eyes were glowing black, the mist fell from her raven wings. What happened to her? Jerod's knees shook and his legs felt weak. It took all his strength just to hold himself up. Cassandra was using a forbidden spell. Was she aware of her actions? Was the magic acting on its own accord? Astrid had once mentioned that the magic had to be practiced and maintained, if not, who knows what would happen.
"Marionette, listen to me!" Jerod stepped closer, "Whatever is happening to you, is not real. You have to fight it! We can win this battle over it, just please don't give in to the darkness like your mother did." A tear slid down her cheek. Who knew what was going through her head. What if she didn't even know? He raised his hand towards her. "Please, whether you want to believe it or not, your my daughter, I can help you fight this."
Cassandra glanced towards him before gripping the handle of her staff tighter. "Deathly Hallows!" She slammed the bottom of the rode into the deck sending the mist flying throughout the ship. Screams erupted on the lower deck as Icerr fell to the ground. Egypt screamed as she clutched her stomach. Jerod gritted his teeth and raced down towards her. The black mist was poisoning everyone and torturing them.
"Elizabeth," Egypt cried out. Eliza straightened her back and cocked her towards the fallen Icerr. Her tail jolted back and forth.
"I'm sorry, E," she mouthed as she faced Cassandra once more and withdrew her sword. Egypt whimpered as her head fell back with a hard thud. She had given up fighting. Jerod stood in the middle of the deck as the isn continued racing towards the other Icerr. He stood his ground and focused his magic into creating a shield that kept the spell from consuming them.
A smirk pulled at Cassandra's lips. Eliza charged forward. Laughter emitted out of Cassandra as she rose into the air. The pirate whipped her tail at her. Cassandra refused to allow her tail to pierce her. Now what were they supposed to.... "Cassy, stop this madness." His thoughts trailed off as a male voice called to her from behind him. "Please, no more lives have to be lost.''The fea turned her eyes upon the fallen.
"I am not that girl you fell in love with." She muttered before letting her staff glow. A black beam shot into the chaos around her. Egypt screamed as her body jolted upwards. Egypt rose from the deck, jumped into the air, and slammed into her sister. Shook painted Eliza's face. Jerod turned his gaze towards the surrounding area. Other fallen Icerr had risen and were now fighting. Cassandra could raise the dead and force them to fight for her.
"Jerod." A male voice called from behind. The mist began rising up on the barrier. If he disappeared, everyone would die. Jerod cast his gaze towards the sky. Cassandra hovered above them. Fists began pounding on the barrier The mage threw his hands in the air seeking a way to stabilize the barrier. "Jerod," the voice cried once more. The mage twisted his head.
Draco hovered towards the top of the dome with his hand against the glass. "Let me talk to her. Nothing could ever end my love for her." Jerod glanced up head. He nodded and lowered the top of the dome. Draco flew out of the hole. Before he could close it, an Icerr, jumped through the barrier. Nimrode growled from behind him. Jerod turned as a foot flung towards him. He bent backwards before it could make contact.
Turning his head, he watched as male slammed his foot down, rise on his toes and trying again. A strong hand grabbed his collar and puled him out of harms way. The male's foot collided with the dome break it on impact. Jerod reached out his hand trying to strength it. It was to late. The dome exploded breaking into thousands of small shards before disappearing all together. The mage sucked in a breath as he was over come by the mist. It was to late to conjure a second. They had to get off this ship.
Screams and moaning came from behind. He watched as the pirates dropped one after another. Nimrode held his arm over his nose cough. The Commanders eyes glowed and focused on the pair above them. Draco had his arms out trying to comfort his girl friend, however, his intentions where rejected. He watched as Cassandra pushed her staff towards him. Black lightening shot towards his body. He let out a scream before his body fell weak and plummeted towards them.
Jerod made his wings appear once more before racing off and catching the Rekin before he hit the deck. Draco's eyes were closed and his breathing shallow. He had to do something, but what could be done to save him? He glanced at the chaos surrounding him. He knew what he had to do. But would it be enough? Closing his eyes, he focused his magic into his hands. He leaned over Draco and allowed particles fall over him. "Rising Sun." Jerod whispered. Draco sucked in a deep breath as he raised off the floor.
"What happened?"
"Marionette killed you." He replied, "I apologize for that. Astrid told me this kind of magic was unstable, and I chose not to listen."
"Do you really believe she is your daughter?"
"I do."
"Then how do we stop her?" Draco looked into his eyes. Jerod sighed and turned away. He knew what it took. He remembered those words so well whispered to him by his late wife. Fear gripped his heart. He just got his daughter back, could he really lower himself to kill her? He just now got his daughter back, could he really take her life? He turned to Nimrode hoping for some answers, though not even he knew his heart. Wether he liked it or not it had to be done. He had to destroy Marionette and stop her destruction.
