Rose's dress

Rose

"Rose! Rose! It's Christmas!" Safaa yelled as she ran into my room and woke me up.

I wondered what time it was, but without knowing the actual time I knew it was early. She was a six years old- super excited kid for Christmas after all. I chuckled, removed my hair from my face and dangled my legs over the edge of the bed after removing the covers.

"I'm going to wake up Zayn!" She yelled again, running out of my room and bouncing on Zayn's door. My eyes widened and I quickly walked over to her.

I removed her little arms from Zayn's door but she had already opened it. "He has a fever, babe. You can wake him up quietly." I suggested sweetly.

Safaa smiled cheekily at me, showing her little teeth and she walked over to Zayn. I leaned against the doorpost and watched him as he was sleeping, his bare chest showing.

He had been throwing up a lot last night. I woke up from all the noises coming from the bathroom and I had stayed with him for as long as it took him to empty his stomach. He had held my hand for the whole time as he didn't feel well at all. When he could finally lie in bed again without throwing up, I had tucked him in as he had been shivering.

I felt so sorry for him and I hated that there was nothing to do to make him feel better. Though, he told me several times he was very thankful that I had stayed with him. I was rather tired, but it was worth it.

"Zayn!" She whisper- screamed into his ear, causing Zayn to stir in his sleep and open his eyes slowly, smiling instantly yet weakly when he saw his little sister.

"It's Christmas!" She yelled and Zayn slowly pressed his hand to her mouth to stop her from yelling so loud.

"Go wake Wali and Don instead." He said slowly and quietly. Just now I heard how exhausted he sounded and it made me feel concerned. His eyelids were already closing while Safaa had not even left his room yet.

When she ran off to her sisters rooms, I stayed in Zayn's room for a while and it didn't take him long to fall back asleep. Very soft snores were heard and I quietly closed his door, returning back to my room to get ready for the day.

I decided to wear my black and white striped dress for once since it was Christmas and I usually never wore one. I just wasn't the dress type of girl, but when I wore one- my mum would go all crazy how good it looked on me and how she wished I wore them more. I was just never feeling it.

I let my long hair down after brushing it and I applied some very light makeup. Walking over to Zayn's room, I heard he was still fast asleep. I sighed a little and went downstairs where I met all of his family members already.

"Oh, look at you! Aren't you just so beautiful?" Trisha complimented as she eyed me from up to down.

Her compliment made me feel warm and I gave her a smile, "Thank you, Trisha." I sat down at the table where she had prepared a delicious looking breakfast and his sisters gave me a few compliments too before she did a quick prayer.

"So, we usually do the few presents in the morning but since Zayn's not feeling well we decided to do it when he's better. It's not nice to not include him into this." Trisha told me as she had probably already discussed this with the other girls.

I nodded my head and took a sip of my apple juice, "I understand.. yeah, he's not any better sadly." I sighed sadly, remembering him from last night.

"No.. I heard the both of you last night. He got it pretty bad. I felt like helping but I heard you were doing an amazing job so I didn't want to bother you." She smiled sweetly.

"Thanks, Trisha." I smiled back.

After we ate up the breakfast, Trisha shoved a plate stuffed full with food over to me. "Do you want to bring this to Zayn?"

"Sure." I took the plate and made my way upstairs, finding out that Zayn was already awake and absently staring up the ceiling.

"Hey." I spoke.

Zayn's eyes slowly moved to me and he barely smiled. He was too tired for that.

"Do you want breakfast?" I asked him.

His lips parted and his eyes closed for a while as he took a deep breath. It hurt me because I could tell that he was not feeling well at all. It was too obvious too deny.

"No." He said so quietly that I could barely hear it.

"But you have to eat at least something, Zayn. Otherwise you can't take your medication.." I bit my lip and put the plate on his nightstand.

Zayn gave me a really small smile, "Later." He whispered, then stared at me for a while. "Beautiful." He said before closing his eyes and going back to sleep again.

I pressed a soft kiss to his forehead and left his room, smiling because of his little compliment and the kiss I gave him. It felt so right to kiss his skin, yet it felt wrong as I didn't know what we had..

I tried to ignore these thoughts and I went downstairs again. That morning, we had only played tons of games, chatted a lot about nonsense, ate good food and watched some Christmas movies. Sadly, it was all without Zayn as he was in bed the whole day.

Now that dinner time came closer, me and Zayn's sisters started preparing the huge dinner that was planned for all of his family. I was excited to meet them all, though I was also a little nervous as I didn't know what to say.

Preparing the food luckily took all of my thoughts and while we started to cook, Trisha walked over to us.

"I'm going to shower Zayn, bring him downstairs and then I'll help you, I promise." She gave us a sweet smile and left us to go upstairs after that.

I stared down at the braised meat and hoped Zayn wouldn't mind too much that his mother would shower him. He had no choice, I guess. He was going to join the Christmas dinner after all.

"Poor boy." Doniya mumbled as she seasoned the meat.

I sighed in agreement and we continued to prepare the food for as much as we could. Half an hour later, we heard the stairs slightly crack as Trisha and Zayn were coming down.

Trisha had her arm wrapped around his waist and he was clutching to the railing, staring down at his feet to make sure he wouldn't miss one step and fall down.

We all watched them as his mother brought him to the couch and he sat down right away, his head rested on the back of the couch. His arms were resting beside his body and his legs were resting on the couch as well as he sat in the corner of the corner sofa.

The freshly showered Zayn stared at us and smiled slightly. We returned it and we then went back to cooking.

Trisha helped us and as Yaser set the table for the many people that would come, the doorbell rang, making clear the first family members had arrived.

"Oh, can somebody open the door?" Trisha asked as she held up her dirty hands from cooking. Doniya did the same, letting us know she couldn't open it either.

"I'll do it." I smiled. They would see me as first and that may make things less nervous for me.

"Wanna join." Safaa said excitedly. I smiled and took her small hand in mine as we walked over to the front door.

We opened it and I noticed their uncle and aunt with cousins. They all had the same beautiful black hair and slightly tanned skin. "Hello. Welcome." I said politely.

They both looked surprised but didn't say anything about it, "Hi! Merry Christmas, love." The beautiful looking woman kissed my cheek and I did the same then watched her as she hugged Safaa.

"I'm Rose." I introduced myself and she seemed like things started to fall into place.

"Oh! Of course, Trisha told us about it. Nice to meet you darling and so good to know that you make Zayn feel so much better." She smiled then entered the living room.

I felt happy about the compliment and it didn't take long for the whole house to fill up with Zayn's family. I had introduced myself to everyone and they all seemed to be so lovely.

Then Zayn came into the picture. He was still sitting in the exact same position as before, showing that he didn't have strength at all to even move his hand.

Though, he did give all of his family members a kiss and a weak smile. I could tell how much they meant to him and that made me feel warm. He was a real family guy.

"How have you been sweetheart? We haven't seen you in so long!" His family gathered around him on the couch and they all looked at Zayn.

He slowly licked his lips and smiled at me before turning his attention back to his family. I smiled at that and sat down on a chair nearby.

"Little tired." He said trying to give them another smile.

I bit the inside of my cheek as I felt a little sad. He said he had been a 'little tired' but he was in pain and he was sick. I always knew he'd never admit it because he didn't want to act like the victim, but we all knew he was speaking the truth. Of course we didn't think he was acting like the victim, it was reality.

His aunt kissed his cheek softly and Zayn closed his eyes as she did so, "You'll be fine. I always look at that picture.." She pointed at the photo of him when he was five and sick, "..and it always gives me hope. I know you will make it."

Zayn gave her a small smile but stared down at his lap. I felt like cuddling him, but there was no way I could right now.

"Dinner is ready. Take a seat." Trisha invited us over to the table and I saw she had made really creative name plates. I came to sit across Zayn and next to one of his uncles.

Trisha helped Zayn over to his seat and when he sat down he immediately rested his face in his hand, staring down at his plate.

Trisha served food on all the plates and she started praying for the meal. After that, she explained what the food was but I couldn't help and only focus on Zayn.

He looked so exhausted, so sick from the fever. But he still managed to smile so now and then. I slowly took a bite of my food and stared at him as he put his fork into his chicken, but didn't take one single bite.

Everyone started talking, even to me. "In what year of your study are you, Rose?"

I wiped my mouth on the napkin and looked at his aunt, "Uhm, I'm in my second year." I smiled politely.

"Wow, great. And such an important role you have in the hospital." She winked, looking over at Zayn.

Zayn didn't hear, but he was frowning and slightly furrowed his eyebrows. His aunt quickly put the focus on someone else as she didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable but something felt off with me.

I kept staring at him for a while to make sure he was feeling okay. Then I saw how a thick line of dark looking blood started to leave his nose, making my heart stop beating for a moment as it shocked me.
