Rose
Tomorrow was Christmas and Zayn's friends decided to come by today. Trisha didn't think it was a good idea at first as Zayn wasn't well, but she figured he needed some fun.
So while Zayn's friends were coming over soon, me, Doniya and Trisha decided to prepare things for tomorrow as their whole family would be coming over. Though, she still wasn't as quite sure about it.
"Maybe we just need to cancel the whole family.. I mean, look at him." Trisha pointed at her son on the couch.
He was far away in his sleep with a slight frown visible on his forehead. He was drugged with his medication and painkillers as he had told us his bones and muscles hurt. He was completely out and I wondered when he was ever going to wake up.
Doniya sighed, "It will be fine mum. They want to see him and he wants to see them. They haven't seen each other in so long and besides, if he doesn't feel well he can also go upstairs and get in bed."
"Yeah.. you're right, I guess." She sighed softly then looked at me. "What do you think, Rose? You're still the nurse after all. Do you think it's a good idea?"
I bit the inside of my cheek thoughtfully and looked at him for a while. "Well, if he wants to see them, then I would let him do it but then he needs to promise he will tell us on time when he's had enough and needs rest. He cannot ask too much from his body at this moment. Overcharging isn't good."
Trisha nodded and smiled slightly, "Thank you, Rose. Then we will let it be. I hope he will eat something at our Christmas dinner, but I have chicken which is his favorite. It'll be fine." She mumbled the last part to herself.
I felt sad for Trisha. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if your own child looked like this, so sick and so vulnerable. And there was sadly nothing you could do to make him feel or become better.
"Rose, would you like to make some dough for the cookies we will bake?" Doniya asked and I nodded.
"Yeah, sure." I smiled. I grabbed all of the ingredients and started adding them one by one into a blue bowl.
Slowly, my thoughts started to run. I had been here for a few days and I was really enjoying all of it, even if Zayn wasn't included in most of the things I did. His family was extremely sweet, seeing the way they all took care of each other and they way they acted around and to each other. I appreciated it. They included me into everything and I noticed how warm his family was.
His mother could talk the whole evening, she was really chatty and warm-hearted, always asking me if I was okay and if I got everything I needed. She took care of me like I was her own daughter and I had never met someone like her before. Zayn really needed a mother like her, especially through his sickness. Even though he sometimes thought she was being overprotective, she was still his mother, she couldn't always help it.
Zayn's dad, on the other hand, was the complete opposite of Trisha. He was a man of just a few words. He didn't talk a lot. He was more to observe and process everything in his mind. Though, I could tell that he was a very loving father just the way he looked at his children. He didn't really say much to Zayn either, but the way he pressed his hand to the sick guy's cheek told us all enough.
All three of his sisters were much alike when it came to their personalities. They were all super sweet, caring and funny. Though, Waliyha still didn't really know how to react to Zayn sometimes. They told me she didn't know how to act because of his sickness. She couldn't help but think about him passing away when he wasn't feeling too well. It was sad.
"Rose?" Doniya dragged me back to reality and I looked up from the bowl.
"Yes?"
Doniya smiled and pointed at the living room. "Zayn's awake. He was asking for you. You can bring the bowl to the couch, don't worry."
"Oh, sure." I smiled back and felt excited just because he was asking for me. I took the bowl in my hands and walked over to the couch.
The sleepy guy was already staring at me while he was still lying down, his hands underneath his cheek. He looked tired, but at the same time relaxed. He smiled at me when I came into his sight and I returned it.
"Hey. Sleep well?" I sat down beside him on the corner sofa and Zayn slowly and carefully sat up, closing his eyes for a while as his head probably felt either very heavy, or very light.
He nodded his head, "Yeah." He smiled and stared at my hands as I started kneading the mixture into dough.
"That's good." I smiled back and watched him as he added his hands into the bowl and started helping me.
He looked up at me and he smiled sweetly, making my heart melt all over again. "Did you sleep well last night?" He asked softly, his voice still rather thick with sleep.
"Yeah, I did too." I nodded and stared back into his beautiful eyes as he looked at me.
He slowly licked his lips as he kept smiling, "Good, Rose. I wish we could do something fun together, you know? Just the two of us. I hate that I'm like this right now but I can't help it." He sighed softly and bit his cheek on the inside while focusing on the dough.
I placed my dirty- because of the dough- hand over his sticky hand and made him look at me. "Zayn, as you said, you cannot help it. It's okay. I'm sure there will be a moment where we can do something fun together, yeah?"
"Yeah," He smiled.
We continued to get the dough ready and I thought about the kiss from yesterday. It was a small one, but it still made me feel the love he had put into it. It threw me a little off guard as I had never expected it but I was more than happy that he had done it.
I looked up at him and saw how concentrated he was while kneading the dough. It made me smile instantly. He was too precious, especially with his red flushed cheeks from the fever. I took a bit of the dough and brought it up to his lips.
"Eat it. It tastes so good." Zayn looked at me and carefully ate the bit of dough off my finger.
"Yummy," He smiled.
Then Doniya came and added the chocolate as we were making chocolate chip cookies. She carefully threw the pieces into our dough, when the doorbell rang.
Zayn frowned, "I'm in my pajamas."
"Doesn't matter, Zayn." Trisha chuckled, throwing him his beanie and Zayn quickly placed it over his head as he didn't like being bald around other people.
He wiped off his hands on the napkin Trisha had given him and he sat down in the corner of the couch, looking up when his friends came in.
Liam and Anthony smiled when they saw their friend sitting on the couch and they plopped down beside him. Liam's hand flew to Zayn's beanie and he snatched it off, "Hey baldie, how've you been?"
I stared at Zayn and saw how uncomfortable he looked right after Liam did that. He stared down at his lap and slowly reached back for his beanie.
"Zayn, put on your beanie. You seem cold." Trisha said on purpose. She noticed how her son felt and I really felt like punching Liam, although I knew he really didn't mean it in a bad way. He just didn't understand that it made Zayn feel like that.
Zayn didn't say anything, he just put on his beanie in silence.
"You're glowing, man. Are you really cold?" Liam whispered and Zayn just shrugged, glancing at me and then at my hands as I was mixing the chocolate with the dough.
Liam and Anthony both noticed that Zayn was a little off so they stayed silent for a while until they started asking him again, "How have you been?"
Zayn looked up at them, "Good and bad." He said honestly.
"Do you have a fever right now?" Anthony frowned, seeing how big red spots appeared on Zayn's neck and face. I knew this was a side effect of his medication and I also knew how Zayn hated it.
He started sweating a lot and quickly wiped his face with the sleeve from his pajama blouse. "Uh, yeah actually."
"Oh, I'm sorry. We didn't know. Do you want us to stay?" Liam asked softly, making me feel better about him after the beanie incident.
Zayn smiled, "Of course." I noticed how his eyelids were hanging a little, telling me he was actually tired but he wouldn't admit.
I sighed. We didn't want to tell him the whole time what to do. He could choose for himself too even if we didn't think it was always a good idea.
Liam glanced at me and raised his eyebrow, "You got something to tell us, Zayn?" He chuckled, making Anthony look at me as well.
I awkwardly shifted in my seat and stared at the cookie dough which was more than ready, but now was not the right time to stand up.
Zayn looked at me and smiled by himself, "That's Rose. Have you never met her? She's a nurse at the hospital. She helped me a lot actually and she's staying here for Christmas and New Years." He explained, already giving them way too much information.
Liam eyed me from up to down and grinned a little, "Zayn's rose. How cute."
I knew he said it as in the flower reference, but it still made me blush a little.
"Yep. Mine only." Zayn said, the left corner of his mouth slightly curling up as he looked at me.
"Yours only?" I teased, slightly raising my eyebrow at him.
Zayn became serious and looked at me with a neutral yet sweet expression. He didn't say anything for a while, making me feel a little awkward.
But finally, after what felt like ages, his beautiful voice spoke up, "Yes, Rose. Only mine."
