Severus let a Healer take Hermione, who hadn't stopped screaming in pain since they went through the floo. He followed them, afraid for his child and Hermione. A nurse stopped him before he could go through large doors to follow them. He glared at her, the slightest hint of fear in his eyes. The blond nurse patted him on the arm. "We will take care of them," she said soothingly.
How could they take care of her when he wasn't there? He tried to move forward again, but the nurse took out her wand and pointed it at him, her eyebrows raised in warning. Severus snarled at her and went to a chair to sit down and wait. He hated feeling helpless and not being near Hermione.
He called Bonks to tell Minerva that Hermione went into labor, then tell the Weasleys about her. He knew they'd want to be her for her, even with what happened with Ronald. Hours went by it felt like. However it was more like just thirty minutes when the whole Weasley family came through the front door. Molly looked around frantically and hurried over to Severus when she caught sight of him.
"Severus, how is she?" She asked, worried as bad as if she was Hermione's mother. Her real parents couldn't be here since they were muggles, so Severus assumed that Hermione would love a mother close to her.
Severus had been calm until the large family came, now he was hiding his fear. "They haven't told me anything since I brought her here," he said with a swallow and a glance to the doors that she disappeared through.
Molly patted Severus on the back and went to the receptionist to ask what was going on with Hermione. A few moments later, Molly came back, annoyed. "They only said there were some complications. They are looking into some muggle medicines that will help until the baby is born."
Muggle medicine? He wondered if the baby was sideways or breeched. They didn't really have a lot of complications with births, so it made sense to look into muggle medicine. However it scared Severus. That was his family. The Weasley's settled at random points in the lobby, waiting like he was.
Potter showed up another ten minutes later. He went to Molly who explained what was happening. He sat down beside Ginny, who had been bouncing her leg nervously. Ronald wasn't there. If he had been, Severus would have killed the man child. He didn't want to see that red haired idiot for the rest of his life. They all settled down to wait. For two hours. Just as Severus was about to get up and burst through the doors, he heard some voices laughing. Why would anyone laugh at a time like this? He turned to the doors, waiting.
The healer that took Hermione back came out with a nurse. Severus, along with every one else, stood up and met her half way. "Miss Granger is okay. The baby is strong, but wont turn. We tried all of our charms to help the baby turn, but he was too strong in his refusal. This is a very powerful child you have here, Professor."
Severus knew what muggle healers, Doctors what they call themselves, would do. They would turn the baby with ECV. With magic, they could make the ECV 100 percent effective in turning him. However, the rest of the group probably didn't know what they did. Severus glanced at Molly, who whimpered slightly.
"We used a muggle technique which is called ECV to turn the baby. We used charms to enhance the procedure and finally were successful. The baby is finally turned and we are just waiting for Miss Granger's body to dilate fully. She's at a 4 right now." She looked to the group. Molly hugged Arthur and Ginny buried her head into Harry's arms. "It could be tonight or in the next couple hours. We don't know."
She left and went back to the doors. Severus wanted to ask if he could go with her to see Hermione, but he knew he'd be in the way. Hermione wasn't out of the woods just yet. She still had some time before their son was here. He sneered and went back to sit down. If waiting was all he could do, then he'd wait.
"Headmaster?"
Severus looked up at the voice. Potter. He smiled weakly at Severus before sitting down beside him. "I know that you don't like me, but I want to say that I am thankful that you were there for Hermoine. What Ron did was terrible. Thank you," Potter looked hesitant like he wanted to ask or say something else, but he nodded to himself as if he was telling himself that was okay.
"Potter, I don't hate you. For years I despised you because you looked so much like your father. I was afraid you were going to act like him. However, I was wrong. You were better than him, more humble. I have to thank you for that. I'm also sorry I made you think I hated you. It just was easier to be a double agent and keep secrets by putting you at arms length." Severus took a deep breath. He had a lot of time to think in the last few hours he'd been waiting for his son to be born. While he did what he had to do to ensure Potter's survival, he didn't like the fact that he was that evil to the boy as he grew up.
Potter looked shocked as Severus dipped his head to him. He chuckled awkwardly and went back to waiting with Ginny. Another ten minutes later, the nurse came out and called three at a time. "She's insisted we get a medicine from muggles to help speed along labor, our charms weren't helping. So we did. It, plus our charms helped to speed it along. Your son is healthy and has a powerful set of lungs on him," she said proudly.
Molly, Arthur, and Severus were the first. He stopped right outside the door, suddenly terrified. Molly looked at him. "Severus, it will be okay," she said warmly, taking his hand. He allowed her to lead him into the room.
Hermione was holding a small bundle of blankets, tears rolling down her cheeks. She looked up at the three as they came in, a smile on her face. "Severus," she whispered, holding out a hand for him. He instantly went to her and took her hand. The little bundle was falling asleep, but grumbling a little as he did. "Meet your son," she said softly.
