chapter four.

Amira walked into the Last Drop. It was a slow day, she had yet to have been assigned anything by Silco, and she seemed to finally have a day off. She walked up to the bar, sitting next to a pale girl with dark red hair.

"Hey, Enyo." Amira spoke, as she sat down.

Enyo hummed in response, giving Amira a small smile. "Finally free?'

"At last!" Amira laughed. "Hey Zi- the usual please."

"What's got you so chipper?" Zivana tilted her head, "Not that I'm complaining, I love seeing you smile."

Amira giggled at Zivana's comment. "I'm just... relieved. My last job went okay- no distractions of any sort, and now I get a day off."

"That's good- you didn't see you know who this time?" Zivana spoke, earning an aggressive cough from Amira.

"Zivana-"

"Who's you know who?" Enyo perked up, curious about the topic.

"No one. It's fine." Amira immediately ended the subject as soon as it started.

Enyo sighed, moving her hair out of her face. "Fine- be like that then." she huffed.

Amira rolled her eyes a Enyo, before looking up at Zivana, "Hey, where's Thi-"

"Amira." speak of the devil, and Amira would dread the next few words to come out of Thieram's mouth. "Boss wants to see you."

"Fuck!" Amira blurted out, Enyo rubbing her back comfortingly, while Zivana gave her a pout. "A day off, is that so much to ask for?" Amira aggressively got up out of her chair.

4 minutes. She had exactly 4 minutes of peace. She walked up to Silco's office, the attitude radiating off of her. Amira stormed into the man's office, practically fuming.

"What now- what could you possibly need from me after my practically flawless job from yesterday!?" Amira yelled at Silco, not worrying about any consequences.

"Now, now, Amira. No need for such rage. I would simply like to talk." Silco rested his arms on his desk. "Please... sit."

"What is there to talk about?" she groaned, sitting down in the seat across from him.

"How... have you been?" he tried to ease into a conversation, noticing the rage built within the girl.

"Cut the bullshit. What do you need now?" Amira sighed.

"Progress day-"

"Is in a few weeks. There's nothing you should need from me today, Silco." Amira rarely showed this attitude towards Silco, but he often didn't care too much, in fact, he sometimes found it amusing.

"I want you to get some insider detail-"

"Is that not what we have Marcus for-?"

"If you would let me speak. Amira. I could tell you." Silco tapped his fingers on the desk.

Amira grunted, as if she was some angsty teen again. "Fine."

"Good. Now, I just want you to walk amongst Piltover for a bit. Get the feel-"

"Why the fuck-"

"Amira." Silco raised his eyebrow.

"Sorry." she mumbled in return.

Silco sighed, "HexTech. It's founders are planning something for Progress Day. It's inevitable."

Amira waited until he stopped speaking for a moment before speaking up, "What do you need with HexTech? Are the Shimmer factories not enough?"

"It's... always good to know what else may be... in the market... per say." Silco grinned slightly.

"I see... and you want me to do this... today?" Amira sighed, face palming for a second, before looking back up at Silco. "Fine."

HexTech. Progress. Jayce Talis. Viktor. Viktor. Viktor. There it was again.

"Good. You understand. Dismissed." Silco lit his cigar as he waved her off.

Viktor. Viktor. Viktor. Everything always led back to him, and of course, she'd have that high risk at seeing him every time she'd go to Piltover. He plagued her mind.

As Amira walked back down to the Last Drop, she was still fuming. She walked up to bar to quickly finish her drink and pay Zivana, who looked at her with a pout.

"No way..." Enyo groaned, "You were just there!"

Amira shrugged, "Yeah well- Silco's a dickhead."

"You can say that again." Zivana mumbled.

Amira put some coins on the bar. "Bye, I guess."

---

Viktor had just finished working on a prototype for something he wanted to call the "Hex-claw." Him and Jayce had been trying to figure out how to make HexTech more accessible to the public, and they had found their ideas to be very beneficial. He spent almost all of his time in the lab, his sleep schedule was awfully messed up, but he didn't care. Viktor was the type of person who always needed to be doing something, or he would feel useless.

"Viktor- you're still here? Did you ever leave last night?" Jayce walked into the lab, tilting his head with concern.

Viktor perked up at his partner's voice, turning around to look at him. "Ehh- no- but! It doesn't matter! Look at this."

Viktor began rambling about his prototype, going on and on about how great the final product will be. Jayce cutting him off in the middle, "Viktor- this all sounds great- but what's the probability of you getting a proper nights sleep for once?"

"Sleep doesn't matter when you're trying to change the world, Jayce." Viktor spoke with a more serious tone.

"I don't think that's-"

"It's fine. Jayce."

The truth was, Viktor knew he wasn't well. His health was constantly declining. He had no idea how much longer he'd have, and his biggest fear was being forgotten. He wouldn't waste any of his time if it meant he'd be able to leave his mark before he left.

---

Amira wasn't sure where she was headed. She assumed she'd probably make her way down to the Academy, the same thing she had done on her first job in Piltover. The one where she had seen Viktor. Viktor. Viktor. Viktor. No, he doesn't matter. What matters is getting this job done, so she can go home and do some attempt at relaxing. So what if she saw Viktor? She simply needed one little plan and that was it. Surely, Silco would be fine with that.

Surprisingly, the security for the Academy on a random afternoon was not too much. She was able to get in from the same rooftop she did before. Even so, she didn't find it hard to blend in for times like these. She'd simply clean her blazer, and make the rest of her clothes look less... dirty, so she didn't give off that "Zaun" vibe. Yet, she was caught a lot faster this time around.

"Amira." Viktor spoke, almost sighing with relief.

He was standing behind her, leaning on his cane, looking at her with hope. Amira froze. She didn't run this time. Viktor stumbled a few steps and turned her around with his free hand. "Amira." he sighed.

Her mouth was open but no words came out. She was stuck, tears beginning to well in her eyes looking up at him.

"I'm sorry." Viktor wrapped his arms around her. "I'm so sorry."

"Viktor.." she whispered out.

"Amira- I'm sorry- I never should've left you."

Amira seemed to finally come to her senses at his words, lightly pushing him, as to not knock him over, just enough to get him off of her.

"Yeah. Genius. You always seem to be correct about everything, huh? You're right. You never should have left." Amira snapped, causing Viktor's frown to be more apparent on his face.

"Amira, if you would let me explain."

"You don't need to. You saw an opportunity to get out and you took it! You didn't think twice about how it would affect those you care about-" Amira groaned stubbornly.

"But I did! I did Amira- I never stopped thinking about you! I wanted to come back for you, truly, I did! You just- seemed to be- occupied." Viktor insisted, using his hands as he talked. This was something he did often to get his point across, Amira noticed it when they were younger.

"What- what are you talking about?"

"You seem to have- taken care of yourself in- eh- ways." Viktor didn't want to flat out say he saw her kill someone, but Amira still figured out it was something along those lines.

Amira stopped and stared at him for a couple moments. She fought back tears that began to well in her eyes. "Viktor... what do you think I've been doing all these years if not- that?" she paused, "Genuinely! What did you expect for me to do!? You left me there with nothing!"

"Amira, I'm sorry."

"Empty words and empty promises, Viktor." Amira scoffed in frustration.

Viktor sighed at the girl, he needed her to understand. He needed her to want his companionship again. He missed her more than anything. "Amira, if you would please just understand. I can help you now- with HexTech, we've been discussing different things to try and help the people of the Undercity."

"Goodbye, Viktor."

The sound of his cane clattering on the ground was what broke the silence, as he grabbed onto her arm, not a care in the world for anything else.

"I won't let you do this again."

"That's too fucking bad for you!" she pulled her hand out of his grasp, sending him stumbling backwards a bit. Amira went and picked up his cane, shoving it into his arms. "No matter how good of an inventor you are, Vik, there are just some things you can't fix."

Viktor sighed, "Amira... please. Tell me I'll see you again."

"Maybe. Or maybe I'll just leave you for 11 years. See how it goes." Amira raised her eyebrow.

---

Amira left Viktor there, stuck and confused. When she returned to Zaun, she was greeted by Silco himself outside of the Last Drop.

"Well?"

Amira sighed, scavenging her mind for any bit of information VIktor may have dropped. "They're planning things to help the people of the Undercity." she recalled.

"Hm." Silco hummed in return. "Thank you, Amira. You never fail to bring results."
