Heading Towards East

I sat down in the booth with The Animals next to me, watching Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames play at the Bag o' Nails. Eric on one side, Chas on the other. We were casually talking while the music played when we suddenly decided to head out.

" Excuse me!" I said, over the music. A man got in my way immediately after we decided to leave. He stood near the edge of his table, before turning around with his clueless eyes.

I recognized him immediately after hearing his voice." Oh, sorry!" Paul McCartney apologized.

I looked at him and smiled in response." It's alright! It happens!"

He flashed his charming smile before, continuing.

" Hi! How are you! How're doin'!" He asked me, ever so casually. He was so surprisingly nice!

" I'm doing fine, thank you!" I shook his hand, and brushed back strands of my hair behind my ear, as I blushed.

" I'm Paul by the way. Y'know, the Beatle, Paul McCartney." He introduced himself.

" Oh yes! I love your work! I'm Linda Eastman, by the way. I do photography." I told him, smiling, as we shook hands.

" Well, Linda Eastman that does photography, would you like to join us? We're going on to another club after this." He asked me. I shrugged and nodded, taking this invitation as a friendly gesture towards The Animals, who were with me.

" Yeah, okay, we'll go on. How should we all do this?" I asked.

-------

We ended up splitting all of us into two cars. The Animals in one, Paul and his group, and me, well Paul insisted that I should go with him. I sat in the back, though, while he drove in the front.

I didn't care, though, I kinda thought to be that we just met, that sitting with him in the front seat of the car, would be a bit awkward. But, anyways, we arrived quite quickly to the other club, and it seemed very nice.

We sat together in a booth, the lights dimly hitting our two faces. He held his drink with such allurement, with his eyes locked on mine. The way he spoke with his accent basically screaming, Liverpool. It was nice to hear it, contrasting against my slight American one.

Oh, how I loved it when he laughed so hard at the stories that we told, the way his nose wrinkled, and they way his eyes would crease when he smiled. I could see why girls would go insane about him. The way my colleagues would freak out at the sound of his name.

   Paul McCartney.

How fascinating he was, really. He wasn't like the other men that I've been with. He would listen and understand, unlike my ex. He reminded me of my daughter sometimes. Some of the topics that we would talk about, made me feel comfortable. I really like him.

I hope to meet him again someday...

--------

Linda Louise Eastman.

Such a beautiful face that the girl had. So kind and soft. While we talked, I noticed how often she would lightly touch my hand when she laughed, a gesture that nearly every girl would to when trying to be flirtatious.

But the funny thing about it is how calm and modest she was. She didn't just throw herself at me, nor did she look like she has any sexual intentions. I was very surprised, she just sat there in her high waisted skirt and white blouse, that she covered with her tan peacoat.

Her blonde hair falling past her shoulder, stopping right at her collarbone. Her intense blue eyes filled my mind with pure wonder. How her voice so calm and nonchalant, made me want to hear her talk forever.

It was in instant attraction I had for her. I'm so grateful to have bumped into her. If not, then I wouldn't have spoken to this peculiar little angel.

The things that we talked about, weren't something that I'd ever spoken about to any girl. But the thing was, she wasn't a girl. She was a woman.

A strong woman. I could see it in her eyes, and hear it in the way she talked. She wasn't a nobody.

" So, about this photography. What do you photograph?" I asked her.

" Anything really. I don't just stick to a specific subject. Like I know that some people like to take photos of birds, but I'm not like that. I take a photo any chance I get." She told me.

" Mind taking one now?" I asked her, resting my chin in my hand.

" Sure!" She smiled, reaching into her bag to grab her camera. She raised it up to her face and closed one eye. She raised her free hand into the air, to turn the hanging light towards me more.

I heard the camera snap and smiled as she lowered the camera, to reveal her bright smile.

" Say, you're a natural at taking photos. Must be from all those photo shoots, being a Beatle and all." She chuckled, placing the camera on the table.

I ran my hand through my hair slowly and began to smize. " Yeah. I guess the camera just loves me." I said jokingly.

" Yeah-h-h!" She laughed, touching my arm again. She's really pushing it. I'm getting mixed feelings. Is she flirting with me, or is this just how she is?

" So, Linda, are you with anyone?"  I asked her.

She shook her head." Nah. I was married, but we divorced a while back."

" Do you have any kids?" I asked her.

She just looked at me and gave me a smile." Yeah. A daughter. Her name's Heather."

I smiled." Heather is such a beautiful name. Is she an only child?"

" Yeah. She's over at her grandparents while I'm over here." Linda explained to me as I nodded. She was very careful about how she said things. She didn't give too much information, but she didn't give me any less.

I looked away and looked at who was singing. I took a sip out of my drink and listened. I could see from the corner of my eyes as she looked at the singer as well. ' A Whiter Shade of Pale' was playing. I looked at her and felt like holding her. She looked like she needs someone to just hold her and tell her things.

Maybe it was because that's what I needed. I really liked her for how modest and kind she was. She seemed very natural...

----------

   Days later...

There was a lot of noise in the house. Everyone was taking and drinking, as music played in the background. John was with his son, as he talked to some guys. George, he sat with Pattie, quietly, though. I think they're having problems. And Ringo, well, he was on his fifth drink, as he spoke to George Martin.

A lot of the people from the press, we're here for the press party, since we had just finished the Sgt. Pepper album. I sat alone on a chair, while Jane was somewhere, probably talking or drinking.

I closed my eyes for a second, just to rest my eyes. Making this album had been quite hard for the four of us, and the problems that I've been having with Jane, aren't helping. I just needed a quick breather.

" Excuse me, can I get a few photos?"

I opened my eyes. I instantly felt my face go warm. It was her again.

" Miss Eastman, Hello!" I smiled in relief. I cleared my throat and tried to calm down." How are you doing? You remember me, right?"

She chuckled," I'm doing fine. And how could I forget your face!"

I blushed and smiled at how silly that question was." Oh yes! Of course!" I laughed.

After we calmed down, she brought her camera up to her face and took a few photos. She sat on her knees and kept lower her camera to look at my face. She brushed back her hair, from her face, and continued.

" You know what's funny?"

" What?"

Linda shyly looked at me." We've actually met before."

" At the club, four days ago?" I thought since I've never seen her anywhere else.

" No. Shea Stadium. I met the four of you." She told me.

I raised my eyebrows and shook my head." Really?! Oh my- I never knew!" I scoffed in disbelief.

" Yeah. You know, John used to be my favorite Beatle." She told me.

" Yeah? Well, you said,' used to' so..." I wiggled my eyebrows a glanced another way.

She smiled and placed a hand on my knee." I feel like I could relate to you more." She said.

That's all she had to say. I knew I loved her from the start. Ever since I bumped into her the other day. It feels as if we were meant to be.

" Hey, Linda, do you have a business card on you? I would really love to stay in touch."

" I would be more than happy to stay in touch, Paul."

The End
