~Settlement
I looked in the mirror at myself as I stood wearing a very faint pink button up dress shirt and a black blazer draped on my shoulders above it. To finish my outfit, I had on a black skintight pencil skirt and a pair of matching 4-inch heels.
I had my hair pulled back in a ponytail to reveal a pair of bright, small silver earrings in my ear.
I bite down on my bottom lip nervously that was covered in gloss, glistening even as I looked at myself in the mirror.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in through my nose and exhale it through my mouth. As soon as the full puff of air left my lungs and through my lips, I feel heat consume my body from behind, and not only could I feel him, but I could also smell him before he touched me and wounded his arms around my body, leaning down so that his arms could rest on my shoulders.
I finally opened my eyes, satisfied with the sight of Enrique behind me.
"Ready to go?" His voice caused tremors to vibrate throughout my entire body.
I hummed in response, which wasn't exactly a 'yes', but it definitely wasn't a 'no'.
Enrique kissed the nape of my neck and murmured a, "You look beautiful, Miah," in my ear before escorting me out of his bedroom.
I could feel sweat dripping down the side of my neck as we made our way down the stairs.
I dabbed my palm over it swiftly so that Enrique couldn't see how nervous I was.
Today was my court date.
If you couldn't tell already, I was shaking in my heels. I wanted everything to be over so quickly, yet I didn't feel like going through the process of getting it done.
Meghan was meeting me at the courthouse later, and as I looked at the document on the coffee table that she had suggested that I write up in order to make me less fluster so that I would have all of my thoughts together when going in front of the judge, I almost felt like bawling it up and throwing it in the garbage, or through the window, or burning it— or whatever it takes to get it out of my sight.
Deciding against my intrusive thoughts, I snatched it from the table, grabbing my purse and marched through the front door that Enrique held widely opened for me. He closed it behind me, eyes look down at the door knob as he locks it.
I look him up and down, seeing the casual jeans and army green T-shirt that he was wearing that clung to his muscles.
We hadn't talked again about what happened at my parents' house since we left but we weren't going to repeat our mistakes twice and just ignore it. We had agreed that as soon as this divorce was final, (Meghan said that she would try her best to get the following court dates as close as possible to the previous one) that we would sit down and talk about everything and decide where we wanted to go from there.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn't even realize that I was by Enrique's car's door already and that he had it wide open for me to get in until I heard a voice say, "Miah?"
This causes my to slightly jump, my eyes finding his face to see his eyebrows raised and eyes worried. He continued, "Are you okay, love?"
I give a nervous smile, attempting to hide my face with my hair until I remembered that it was in a ponytail and that I had nothing to curtain my expression behind. So instead, I make haste in getting into the car, murmuring what I hoped was an assuring, "Yeah, yeah, of course."
It was two more long seconds before he finally and gently shut the door behind me before making his way around the car and opening his own door for him to sit in.
I looked through the window so that I didn't have to look at him, but when I heard his car door shut, his keys make a jingling sound before I heard them being stuck into the ignition before it was all silent for four very long and excruciating seconds.
Knowing that Enrique was staring directly at me, and that he wouldn't move until I look at him, I released a long and painful sigh before turning to face him, "I said I'm fine, Enrique, really I am." I try to reassure.
He swipes his tongue on the top row of his teeth, "Are you though?" I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his question. "No, I 'm serious, Demiah. You can't even look me in the eye for two seconds before looking away."
I blow a breath through my mouth, urging my eye upwards and into his. His eyes soften when he sees the first remnants of tears brimming my lower lids, "I-I'm really fine." I try to convince myself, and his looking at me that way wasn't making it any better. I clench my jaw, "It's just..." I choke up.
I feel a hand being placed on my exposed thigh from where my skirt has risen up but it wasn't in a sexual way; rather in an attempt to comfort me by giving me a small squeeze, "It's okay, take your time." His other free hand comes up to tuck an escaped strand of blond hair from my ponytail behind my ear.
I nipple on my top lip as a mechanism to stop any tears from escaping my eyes, "I hate him," I shake my head in anger. "I hate him so much," I start.
Enrique rubs my thigh, "But?" My head snaps towards him at the one-word, as if he knew that the conjunction was going to come sooner of later.
My eyes flutter as I look at him to see him focusing on my movement of his thumb on my thigh, "But..."I continue as I look directly at him when his eyes rise to meet mine, "But... I've been with him from the time I was nineteen. I-I hadn't even figured out what I wanted in life yet, what I wanted to be, where I wanted to go... nothing."
"...And now?" Enrique urges with a gentle and encouraging smile on his face.
"And now it's like...I'm just erasing everything. Everything I've been for nearly half my life, every I've done for nearly half my life, even my last name. I've— been this person— I've known this person that I am, this Demiah Sievers for so long and I just don't know... I just don't know if I know who Demiah Sallows is anymore." I trip up over my words multiple times, the sentences just pouring out of my mouth before I'm spilling all of my insecurities to Enrique before I even realized.
I continue, finding it hard to even stop, "And now I'm with you and..." I finally look up at him from looking down at his hand on my thigh the entire time that I was talking. "...and I'm just afraid that I'll learn to be this new person again with you and...and that I'll become Miah without every really discovering who Demiah is." I pause as I watch as he breaks eye contact and turns away from me momentarily whilst keeping his hand on my thigh.
"Is that such a bad thing?" His voice cracks as he finally looks back to me, eyes sad. "Don't misunderstand me, Miah. I'm— I'm not trying to make you feel imprisoned or feel like you can't be yourself, I just..."
Just myself, he seemed to be at a lost for words. His mouth opened and closed like he was struggling to continue so I placed him out of his misery by putting a hand on top of his that was still placed on my thigh, "I know... we'll— we'll talk about it later, okay?" I assured. That seemed to be the phrase we said whenever things became confusing and the lines became blurred.
Enrique swiped his tongue on his bottom lip before bringing it between his teeth, nodding his head in understanding as well as gratitude. I lean over a place a slow and passionate kiss on his lips, my hand coming up to rest gently on his cheek to feel closer to him.
I eventually pull away not too long after, fluttering open my eyes as I rest my forehead against Enrique's, pursing my lips once more when he moves in to place a last short peck on my lips.
I pull away and sit back properly in my seat, watching as he turns the keys in the ignition before we were off to the courthouse.

Enrique pulls up the break on the car as he parks, and gets out to go around the front of the car to open the door for me. I step out swiftly, looking around the parking lot subconsciously to see if I see any familiar cars.
The slamming of the car door after I exit brings my attention back to Enrique. He leans on the car in front of me, folding his arms in front of him as he speaks, "You sure you don't want me to come in?"
I tilt my head and smile at him in response, knowing that he could tell what I meant to say from just my expression.
"Fine, I was just making sure." He raises his hand in surrender.
I take a step back form him as I laugh. "Remember what Meghan said," I grow serious as I say this. "We can't let anyone know of our relationship until after the divorce."
"Yeah, yeah," He looks over my shoulder for a while before waving me off as he goes back around the car to his driver's seat, "Meghan's over there," He points behind me where he just looked.
I take a step back and lean over to see into the car at him as he leans over to passenger seat to see me clearly. "Remember to relax and just listen to Meghan. Call me when you're through."
I smile gently and nod my head, sending a slight wave at him before his car drives off. It is only when I see it disappear around the corner that I turn around to see Meghan merely a few feet away from me walking closer.
I take a deep breath.
