30 Moon Trance
POV Jack
“So some breakfast… Breakfast,” I am going through Rob’s cabinets. ”Gosh! Where in the name of God is a frying pan! Or a pot! Toast machine? ANYTHING!” I am opening every door I could possibly found. Elsa is still sleeping at the sofa after she fell asleep on my arms.
I smirk when I open the last cabinet that is furthest away from the stove. “Found you!” I yell to the frying pan that I grab from top shelf. My lungs hurt when I have to cough. “Geez! That Rob isn’t much of a cook considering the dust amount! There is more dust than sand on Mars!” I continue my coughing until I hear a gentle knocking sound on the doorway to the kitchen. This has a separate kitchen with breakfast corner.
“Do you need a doctor?” I heard Elsa’s voice cracking. I turn around and wipe some dust away from my clothes, “No. There is just TOO MUCH dust!” I grin to her and then I show her the frying pan which she takes. At first she was staring at it and I chuckled, “You see that was the reason why I was coughing, nothing serious.” I smile to her but then my eyes widened, “N-no, don’t!” I was unfortunately too late since she blew on the pan. Now we were both coughing our lungs out. Her voice was rough when she finally managed to say something between her gasps for air, “You were right, WAY too much dust!”
I laughed with my dry throat, “Y-yeah, you would think that a guy this rich would have a cleaning lady!” Elsa started to giggle, her eyes were watering. I felt the butterflies when she laughed, I loved her laugh and especially when she was actually crying because of having fun and not being sad. I felt a lump in my throat and I rushed to her, gently wrapping my arms around her and embracing her. “W-what is this for?” She exhaled when I was pressing her head against me, “I love you so much. I just felt like I had to do it. Right now.” I whispered to her and felt how her hands rubbed my back.
Then I quickly stood up straight and held her from her shoulders. She furrowed her eyebrows and questioned me with her look when I smirk to her and then lead her in the breakfast table. “Thanks to you I now have a pan. And I see that the cabinet has other useful stuff also!” I dive inside the cabinet and pull out another pan and toaster.
“You sure that you don’t need help?” I turned around and saw her staring at me. I placed the eggs on the counter, “Nope! I am perfect thank you!” I bowed to her and chuckled. ”You’re having some American for breakfast!” My eyes widened after words escaped from me. “You’re American Jack?” Elsa smirked to me. ”Y-yea! Meant that you will have some American style breakfast,” I turned around and my hands went through my hair, messing them. I glance over my shoulder, she must have noticed. She knows that I do this move when I am nervous, my cheeks are burning.
I clear my throat, “So. The eggs,” my hands shake when I take one of them. Calm down, I tell myself. This wasn’t so hard back then when I cooked for Emma. Calm down, Jack. Breathe. Suddenly her delicate hands are around me, squeezing me hard from behind. “You promised me American breakfast,” she whispered to my ear and my heart was pounding fast. “Umm..” I turned around and she stood there, smiling to me. She pulled me close to her from my hoodie’s collar. Her lips pressed against mine. “Mmmh..” I muffled when my eyes closed. I felt dizzy after she stopped. ”Thank you, now some American style breakfast,” she pinched my cheek and left me standing near the stove. The egg I had been holding in my hand had dropped to ground a long time ago.
I turned around and my face was red, I smiled happily and my eyes wanted desperately to watch her all the time. I couldn’t wait until the scrambled eggs, bacon and waffles with chocolate dressing would be ready so I could sit with her on the table and stare at her. Oh no, I sound like a stalker.
“You sure left a mess,” Elsa laughed to me and I looked over my shoulder. Yeah, there were some equipment in desperate need of a wash. Maybe later. I sat to table and we ate. Suddenly I heard a beeping sound, ”What is that?” Elsa laughed, ”It is a cellphone. At the portable kitchen counter.” She pointed towards the vibrating cellphone. I sure didn’t have something like that back then. ”How do I use it?” I held the phone in my hands and Elsa came to me, her fingers slightly touched my hands when she helped me to respond.
It was Emma, I knew it since the phone told me so. How? Well, it just did with her name flashing on the screen. “Hey?” I said to the phone. ”Hey Jack! Let me guess you’re cooking?” Emma said happily and I admitted it. ”Just like when you were at home,” she sighed and sounded like longing after those times. “Yeah, I guess it was like that,” I spoke to her. She cleared her throat, “Some waffles? You did?” I heard some elevator music on the background but I managed to hear what she said. “Yup,” I chuckled.
“Nice!” She yelled to the phone. ”I was about to tell you that there are some strawberries in the fridge. Use them or they’re spoiled,” she laughed. “Oh and have a nice day after Christmas with her! Sorry that I couldn’t be there. Me and Rob had been planning this small weekend trip for ages. But remember, I will personally strangle you if I can’t see you when I return!” She sounded really serious.
“Alright,” I told her and we said goodbyes. “So?” Elsa smiled to me. I walked to the fridge, ”Strawberries!” I showed her the packet and then I served her the plate of waffles. She smiled happily and it warmed my heart. “Some extra chocolate?” I said while I poured the warm chocolate dressing on her waffles. She laughed, “Yes! A little more please!” I poured and when I was about to stop she squealed, “Little more!” She pressed my wrist down and now her waffles were swimming in a chocolate ocean. “Oh!” I exhaled and laughed.
She pushed me from my shoulder, ”Don’t! I just love chocolate!” I pouted, “More than me?” She shook her head and took one strawberry that she dipped in chocolate. She made me eat it, “No. You’re the sweetest and I feel like I will never get enough from you.” She kissed my cheek and I almost suffocated to the strawberry. I hit my chest and clear my throat, “Really?” My eyes were still watering since her words surprised me and the strawberry wasn’t a good combination to that. “Really,” she petted my cheek and I touched her hand.
I glanced at the clock, “Hey. Sorry but I have a business to attend to BUT I will come back at six in the evening, 8 hours from now. Then we will check out Burgess together. I want to surprise you with something!” I told Elsa when my thumb brushed her cheek. She nodded, ”I will clean the mess. Just don’t push yourself too much.” Her words surprised me and I chuckled, ”Don’t worry, I will be just fine.”
I borrowed Rob’s jacket. It felt warm and it had silk in the inside. ”Extravagant,” I whispered by myself when I placed the collar up, to protect my neck. It was a leather jacket for winter. It was still early so the air was crisp and I walked forward. Towards Burgess shopping streets.
Then I reached my destination. ”Overland’s Jewelry -,” I whispered, ”- and we meet again.” I cleaned my shoes from the slushy snow to a carpet in the front before entering. The bell rang when the door closed. I took a deep breath when a man came to me. “How may I help you?” I stared at him directly in the eyes. He watched me smiling at first, then he seemed shocked. “D-do I know you?” He exhaled.
“No, I am just passing through,” I told my father. It was my dad, Matthew Overland. I used to play in his shop when I was little. Nothing had changed, there was still he enormous wooden counter to serve his customers. “I was wondering if I could use your shop to create a ring?” I look at him and he laughs,”Not many people can do that. You believe you can?” He crossed his arms and seemed now relaxed. I smiled, “Yeah. Learned from the best,” I look at him and I feel calm. He was the best, my father teached me everything. Oh man did we have wrestling about the fact that I wanted to be a carpenter and not a jewelry maker! Now it is the past though.
He laughs and asks me to follow him. I know that he is taking me to his workspace and that means that he agreed. “Sure you can lad but why don’t you work at your own place?” He chuckles while he watches me. “Well, I just proposed a girl. I will pay you for your trouble!” I said quickly. Dad rubbed his neck, ”Oh! An engagement ring! Nice! I wish that I could have seen my boy getting married,” he sighed. “You remind me of him. What was your name again?”
My eyes widened. My name. Oh god. ”N-name is Rob, sir!” I tell to him. When he turns around I sigh from relief. “Here you go! I will charge you with the materials only.” He patted my back. ”Do the perfect ring for one time deal,” he smirked when he left back to the shop area. My father was the only one who held his shop open during holidays, he knew that people proposed more easily during holidays and it was good business for him.
I knew where his equipment were, the same places as before. I created a mould first. Then I heated some white gold that I poured on the mould. Then I went to my dad, “Hey. I was wondering if I could use some stones? Sapphires and diamonds?” He chuckled, “Yes, of course. I am happy to help a fellow jewelry maker Rob!” I smiled to him and felt grateful. He took out a box from safety cabinet. “So, how many and what?”
“Six smaller blue sapphires, one bigger. Then few diamonds. Can I choose? I want the bestest quality?” I said to my father and he nodded. Carefully I handpicked the ones I liked the most. “Thank you, I think that I can continue,” I said to him when I went back.
Then I placed the stones to their places carefully. After polishing the ring I carved certain words on the inside. Most meaningful to me. When I was happy to the outcome I cleared my work point.
“I am ready,” I walked to my father’s counter. “Let me see, I love to see other’s work!” He took out a small light and magnifying glass. I felt embarrassed to show my work to him but I let him look at it. “Magnificent!” He yelled which startled me. Then he slowly placed down the magnifying class. ”JMO?” He exhaled. ”T-there are those letters where there should be the crafters name label?” He stares at me. Busted.
“M-my son was Jack Matthew Overland, he used those letters,” he looks directly at me. “Oh! Mere coincidende. M-my name is Jonathan Matt O’donnel. My Friends call me Rob because of a TV show,” I laugh nervously and he sighs. “Yeah, he has been gone for long time,” my father says while he seems sad. Then he laughs,” Good work anyway Jonathan! I mean Rob!”
I smile and hand him all the money I have except couple hundred of bucks, “Here, for the payment.” He gasps, “This is too much!” I shook my head, “Nope. You were a great help. Without you I couldn’t have done it.” He laughs happily, ”thank you so much young mister! Hey, let me give you this. It suits your ring perfectly, I think,” he winks an eye when he takes something out from a drawer.
“My son made it and it is something special,” he looks at a tiny wooden box. “It is a ring box that I have kept all these years. He wanted to become a wood carpenter and not a jewelry maker like his father. He did a great choice, look,” he gave me the box. It had silk on the inside for the ring. It was rounded from the edges and it was painted light blue. On top there was a silver snowflake. I remembered it, I gave it to him that he could sell it. I gasped, “T-thank you.”
I smile to him when I place my ring to that box, ”I believe that he liked both. Doing jewelry and wood. Trust me. ” He pats my back, ”Thank you son!” My jaw dropped, it felt good to hear him calling me his son even though he does that to young people.
I waved my hand when I left. Thirty minutes until I would take Elsa out. I felt so happy right now! And sad. But happy! I ran the rest of the way, sometimes resting a bit. Before I went in I took some medicine for my heart. I don’t want her to see me taking it, worrying because of it.
“I am back!” I yell to her happily and I spread my arms when I go inside. She runs to hug me, I embrace her.
POV Elsa
After Jack got back we went to our date. At least I want to call it that since we went to have dinner in his favorite restaurant from back then. It was Mexican food, nothing so fancy but delicious. “Didn’t know that you like hot things?” I laughed to him when he ordered extra spicy food. “I don’t!” He laughed. ”I just have been crazy like this always, testing my limits,” he winked his eye.
He drank at least a gallon of water on top of the dinner. We went to park after that. The night was clear since the temperature was below zero. He suddenly ran to someone. It was a girl carrying a violin. “Hey!” He yelled to that girl that seemed to be in her twenties. ”Yes?” The girl said in surprised way. “Mind playing something? I will give you hundred bucks!” The girl smiled happily, ”That would be cool! I was just coming home from practice with band and I would really need the money for my studies. So, yeah. Sure!”
When the girl took out her violin out from the case Jack came to me. ”Time for some fun, dancing,” he smirked. “N-no!” I exhaled. ”Y-E-S,” he grinned deviously when he took a hold of my hand. “I asked for the Moon trance,” he whispered to me. “C’mon my moon. I beg of you, one dance?” He kissed my cheek and I felt numb, he leaded me to dance.
The dance was a bit fast and we laughed a lot when we messed up. “Fun, huh?” He cocked his eyebrow and I nodded. He was making me spin at the ground. When the song ended he kissed me. The girl smiled when she left us there. Jack leaded me to a bench and cleaned it out from snow. He made me sit.
He kneeled down to snow. ”My moon and My Star, the one who lights my nights and guides me through hard times. Will you marry me?” He smiled to me when he took out a ring box from the jacket. It was a beautiful box from wood with a silver snowflake on top. Then he opened it.
“I promise to keep you safe as long as I live,” he handed me a ring. My heart was fluttering and I really had to struggle not to burst in tears. It had blue sapphires and diamonds. One bigger blue sapphire in the middle and six smaller diamonds circling around it, they formed a snowflake on top of the ring. It had a beautiful curvy design. On the both sides was also three more of blue sapphires on the each side, they were smaller and they had diamonds between them. My hands were shaky when I watch at it, Jack smiles to me with a dreamy daze.
Then I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I cried when I saw what was written on the inside. “M-my Moon, My Star,” I sobbed and he hugged me. “Yes, you are,” he kissed the tears away. “Y-you know the answer, I am marrying you silly,” I smile to him. “It is perfect,” I whisper to him when he places the ring on my finger.
“I wanted to do it perfect and delicate like a snowflake is or you are,” he blushed. I jumped onto his neck and he lifted me up. “Calm down!” He laughed and I felt the urge to kiss him. I placed my lips against his tightly. ”I love you Jack, forever,” I told him and he hugged me tightly, ”And I will love you all eternity.”
A/N:
I die from feels now. How about you? Oh. My.
Jack did the ring! YAHOO! See the photo attached, there is some wishes from you my readers! Basically white gold is the same color as silver. There are blue sapphires since those would suit for the couple and the snowflake design!
Special mention to WZmancell who gave me the ring photo to edit ;).
HEY! What should be the name for the ring? Jack made it customized (is that a word?)!
Loving You, My Snow Storm
