19 Late Winter
POV Jack
In the North Pole things have gone smoothly during this last month. We still have our meetings regularly after what happened with Pitch. They say that a new threat is rising from shadows. However they say that he is not Pitch but has some plans to cause harm. Unfortunately not one of us knows who he is. Manny has just told us that he will try to do something unseen and terrible with enormous consequences. What? Well, that we don’t know.
Despite the serious matter my thoughts are going to a kingdom faraway. Soon I will meet Elsa again, after one month of busy time. “Oi! Mate!” I glance over my shoulder, ”Oh! Hi Bunnymund!” I smile to him and see how his jaw drops and he watches to others looking confused and shocked at the same time. “What did you just say?” He narrowed his eyes and stared me eye to eye.
“I said hi?” I shrug my shoulders. ”Yeah, but after what?” He poked my chest with his front finger. My eyebrows furrowed as I watched him feeling amused, “Erm, I said your name?” Then he gasped, “You ALWAYS call me KANGAROO!” He was now holding me from my hoodie’s collard and shaking me back to forward. “Gaah! Stop strangling me!” I tried to broke his grip but eventually Tooth and Sandy were the ones to pull him off from me.
Bunnymund was breathing deeply and glancing me like a maniac. “Don’t you others see! He is possessed!” I looked at him with my mouth open. ”Me? Possessed? How?” I laughed to him and he crossed his arms. ”Well at first you lost the fun in you and the whole winter was all slushy and mushy!” He rolled his eyes and I leaned to my staff.
“Please, go on,” I made a gesture to continue by waving my hand so it did two circles in the air. Bunnymund seemed annoyed now. “Haha, Frosty. Funny.. Well, then you went somewhere and returned as a different person – more like your usual self!” Now he took a deep and loud breath so no one else could interrupt him. “And you totally got yourself together mate! I mean! The late winter sure was fun.I froze my paws on Easter!” Oh, so that is bugging him. He was now tapping his foot to floor and seemed furious.
“Hey! Calm down, winter is now over and speaking of which,” I glanced outside the window. “I really, I mean, REALLY need to go.” Sandy waved his hand and North groaned a response. Bunnymund was just rolling his eyes still and turned his back to me. Just before I left Tooth pulled me to North’s kitchen.
“Jack, I need to speak with you,” she whispered to me and I felt surprised. “Alright but make it quick!” Suddenly she squealed and seemed excited. It almost hurt my ears. She was looking to my eyes keenly and getting close. Way too close. “So, Jack!” She was talking with her fast way and almost chirping. “Yea?”I narrowed my eyes and got uncomfortable when her body was pressing against me and I got stuck between her and the wall.
“Sorry, can’t help it!” She giggled when she pulled her hand out of my mouth and I rolled my eyes. This happens every time when she is left alone with me. “Still as white as snow,” she smiled. I started to walk away but she stopped me. “Wait! I really wanted to speak with you!” So, the uncomfortable situation continues. ”Get down to business, I am in a hurry!”
She was smiling widely, “Guess who I talked to yesterday?” I rolled my eyes, “I don’t know.” I took a step back when he flied close to my face giggling. “With cupid!” Alright, now she is talking with characters from fairytales. “He is real too!” She pushed my shoulder when she saw my misbelieve. It made me laugh, ”Alright! So what did you talk about?” I sat to a chair behind of me, now she can’t make me lose my balance.
“Well,” she was chirping again and looked at me weirdly, “I think I know the reason why you’ve been acting like this.” She gave me a hug. “Uh? I don’t understand?” She laughed, ”Jack! Can’t you see! You’ve been daydreaming a lot and you were so happy when you came back from Arendelle.” Being happy was something that I have to admit, Elsa forgave me in her own way then. I nodded to Tooth who squealed for my reaction. What is up with her?
“She told me something nice!” I glanced at Tooth who was all happy smile. “You’re scaring me Tooth!” She giggled more, ”do you like Elsa?” My heart just lost a beat for few seconds. ”S-she is alright,” I whispered and my cheeks were warming up. Tooth turned my face so she could watch me into my eyes, she was laughing in her inside and smiling. “Oh Jack, you should really go and meet her again. Long time since you saw her, right?” I nodded while I tried to look the walls instead of Tooth. “Go,go already!” She pulled me up and then pushed me towards the door. ”Yeah! I will go!” I laughed and started to float in the air. At the same moment Tooth fell to ground since there was no one to push anymore. She just laughed and waved me a mark to go.
“See you in few months!” I yelled to other guardians and flew towards Arendelle. I wonder how she is now? Will she be able to tolerate me after all what has happened? Nervousness is killing me right now. I hate it when we didn’t have time to chat last time. Well, mostly because I had kind of been sloppy with bringing winter. I just didn’t feel like it.
Soon I saw Arendelle where spring was already coming, I yelled in excitement. “I am coming!” The town seemed to be in a hurry, everyone was running around and seeming busy. I watched as the people of Arendelle chatted joyfully and it was like they would be getting ready for something. Everything was centered to Elsa’s castle so I thought that they might have a..what is it called? The thing where people go to dance, have fun and so on. OH! Now I remember the royal ball.
“Well, Elsa will explain,” I said to myself when I flew to her window. I tried to be silent so she would be surprised. In her room were other people too, a woman was fitting her a dress. A white one that looked rather expensive. Long gown, A-line with full looking bottom part and lots of sparkles was all that I saw. Not her style to my mind. Something lighter and simpler looks good on her. I prefer the ice dresses more than silk that she seems to have on her now.
I stay silent and watch how the woman pins the dresses edge. I wait and wait. Finally they seem to have finished, the woman left. Now she is ready to see me, I smiled to myself and flew down. Actually I sat on top of her clothing cabinet the whole time. I see how Elsa unzips her dress and I start to panic, my eyes widen and I feel the sweat forming on my forehead. She still hasn’t noticed me and I quickly clear my throat. “E-Elsa?” I whisper and she turns around in seconds. A blast of ice throws me to wall.
”God you scared me Jack!” She gasped while I tried to catch my breath, all air had just left my lungs when the blast squashed me against the wall.”N-nice to meet you too,” I exhaled. She hates me, yeah. “You just startled me!” She laughed. ”There are people who don’t like me, just to let you know. Jack,” she quickly turned around and I saw the back of her dress.
“May I ask what is up with this cream cake?” I pinched the fabric of the dress but she slapped my hand away. “It is my WEDDING DRESS, you fool! Keep your finger’s off!” She snapped at me and my mouth was left open. A wedding dress? What has happened since I left?
“Uh,” I managed to say. Elsa paced around the room and was nervous, she was mumbling something that why did he have to come and what will she say. I was still feeling shocked from the fact that she is wearing a wedding dress. Why didn’t I realize it right away? I mean it is overly decorated and white. Geez.
She was freaking out from the looks of it. She was holding her hands and the room was freezing. “Calm down, please,” I walked in front of her and stop her from pacing around by putting my hands to her shoulders. Her face was looking down and she was upset from the looks of it. “What is wrong?” I whispered. ”You’re getting married and it is great! Really..great..” My sound was at first cheerful but soon it went to lower which surprised me.
“You think so?” Her sad eyes met mine and I smiled to her, ”It is.” But I doubted at my words since I felt sick inside. What is wrong with me? She has found happiness so why can’t I be happy for her. Alright, I need to do something to show her that I meant my words. Her lower lip was already twitching as if she is going to start to cry. Now I know.
I dropped my staff to ground and with the widest smirk you could ever imagine I started to tickle her. She begged me to stop. She broke free from my grasp and retreated holding her arms in front of her. She was out of breath and her she was forcing herself not to smile. “Jack! Stop!” She yelled at me with signs of laughter in her voice, I didn’t listen but chuckled instead. “Nope, I will find YOUR weak spot. Every each one of them.”
She tried to run past me yelling something about her dress getting ruined and how the seamstress will kill her. I caught her and tickled her, she Is really ticklish. Her whole body was flitching when my fingers gently touched her and made her tickle. However she managed to knock me down with her feet. Soon I was laughing my lungs out while I run in her room, avoiding her blasts of snow. She told me that I will taste the same treatment soon.
One thing I didn’t notice when I run. It was my staff which I had left laying around. I tripped on it and fell down and right when I turned around to lay on my back I saw how Elsa tripped like I did. She landed on top of me which made me hit my head on the floor. “Ouch,” I laughed and I watched her face. She had tear stains on her cheeks, she was crying from joy and fun she had just experienced. My heart felt a little lighter now.
“Stop staring at me, Jack!” She glanced at me nervously and stood up. “Now it is all wrinkled!” She was watching herself from full body mirror and spinned around in that white wedding dress. “Yeah and there is a tear,” I pointed at her dress. Soon she realized that I had fooled her and she threw a snowball at me. It hit my chest and I swiped the wet snow away from my hoodie and I couldn’t help not to laugh. “Good aim –“ I winked my eye to her, “- from close range.” Her lips narrowed and she pushed my chest with both hands and burst to laughter.
“I missed you,” I said to her and she turned around quickly. “Uh, I can go if you want me to go?” I hope that she lets me stay. “No! Everything is alright!” She yelled quickly and turned around. She was smiling, I love when people do that. Smile.
“So? Who is the prince charming?” I teased her and she turned red. “What? Cat took your tongue?” When she started to create a snow storm I apologized. “I mean, really? What is your dream guy like?” I sat on her bed. She was moving nervously. ”Well,” she started and looked at me in scared way. “Yeah?” I smiled to her.
She took a breathe, “Actually I’ve never met him.” Luckily I was sitting down since I would have lost my balance otherwise. “NEVER MET HIM?” I raised my voice and stood up. ”How can you marry someone you’ve never met?” Next thing I realized that I had been talking to her with inappropriate way. “It is my duty to marry and get a king to Arendelle,” she was trying to swallow her tears away after my outburst. I had just now been pointing at her and yelling. “I..I am sorry,” I tried to touch her shoulder but she backed up.
“I hate you!” She whispered and my heart sank. ”You possibly don’t mean that?” I whispered her back and waited her response. The seconds felt like years and minutes like a lifetime. Finally she broke the silence with sigh. “Actually you’re right. I don’t hate you,” she sounded sad. ”And I believe that I will learn to love..or at least to live with my future husband during time,” her words made me feel sad for her.
“Don’t say that you will meet him at your wedding day first time?” I messed my hair and she shook her head. “No, he comes here tomorrow. People are preparing for his arrival.” So that is why people were rushing outside. “And what is his name?” I noticed how Elsa was rubbing her hands together in nervous way.
“Prince Naveen from Maldonia,” she looked at me. “Nope, never heard of him,” I stated back. “You two should get to know each other before wedding,” I said. “Um, when was the wedding held?” She was moving anxiously, moving her bodyweight from feet to other. “Well?”
She turned around, “Two weeks from now.” I jerked my head to my right, “Really? Isn’t that rushing?” Her voice went high, “NO! I am not rushing in any reason! Especially not because of you!” Then she slammed her hand over her mouth and turned her back at me. “What did you say?” I whisper when I go closer to her. ”NOTHING!” She gasped. “How was your month? You brought late winter?” She said cheerfully and smiled when she turned around.
”Yeah! Kind of got carried away with winter stuff after I left Arendelle,” she was now smiling to me. “Hey! I dare you to go for a date with that Nave guy!” She looked annoyed, “NAVEEN.” I laughed, “Yup, that one. When he arrives?” She glanced at her wall clock, ”In one hour, 1PM.” I smirked, “Well you go to a date right away to castle garden. I will observe and tell you if he is good enough for my friend. Deal?” I offered my hand to her and she rolled her eyes before grasping a hold to my hand. “Alright Frosty but no matter what you think the wedding will be held two weeks from now.” I nodded to her.
One hour later I was spying in the staircase when the doors opened. The servants gave their greetings to a tall man with strong looking chin. His skin was darker tone and he was wearing green expensive looking suit. I saw how he just emptied a welcoming drink to flower pot. He disliked it for what I know of. Then Elsa rushed to entryway and seemed sorry for being late. She was so nervous which made me hope that she keeps herself calm.
Before they left outside Elsa looked around herself like looking for something. Now our eyes met and her warm smile made me feel like she was looking me with her glare.
They were just talking and walking in the garden. Suddenly the Nave guy stopped walking and demanded a drink which Elsa politely asked from a gardener to bring. “This is too warm!” The Prince exhaled and I felt annoyed. “I am so sorry!” Elsa took the glass from him and started to walk towards castle with it. The Prince stayed to sit in bench.
I flew to Elsa, “Where are you going?” She glanced at me, “To get him cold drink.” I placed my staff in her way so she would stop. “Chill it with your powers?” I winked at her but she shook her head. ”I can’t!” With her other hand she pushed my staff from her way. I rolled my eyes and with my other arm I took a hold from her waist. “Let me do it, it will take ages for you to move around in these big surroundings.” The castle’ garden is really big, it has an own forest really. She nodded and seemed relieved.
I leaned closer to the glass and glanced at her while I blow some cool air to the glass. Then I touched the glass in her hands and it frosted, our fingers met for a second. “Thank you!” She smiled and run back to that Prince. For next hours I watched and listened how that Prince Naveen was talking about himself. All the time. I even learned his name in the process. I saw how Elsa had hard time now to keep herself awakel, her chin dropped from time to time. “Hey,” I shook her from her shoulder, “ time for a break?” She smiled to me.
“Naveen, I am truly sorry but my duties call me.” Elsa rose up, ”It was nice talking with you. See you at dinner,” she left Naveen. “You think that he will find his way back to castle?” The thought of mr fancy pants walking alone amused me. “Well, he will do I eventually if he is hungry,” Elsa winked her eye at me. Is he joking?
“He is a special guy at least,” I flew to Elsa’s path and she pushed me aside. “Well if he is special then what are you? Mister Winter Spirit?” She was now teasing me, how did it turn out like this? “For old times sake,” she whispered, “I have missed you watching when I work. I mean you’re frustrated sounds.. Ah, I don’t know what I am talking about!” I looked at her with misbelieve at first but then I bursted into laughter. “Are you serious?” She nodded.
I cleared my throat, “So you would like me to watch when you work?” She sighed and her shoulders dropped, “Yeah. I guess I do and back then I wanted you to go away.Silly, huh?” I nodded to her, “Yeah but I feel honored being your royal clown.” She slapped my hand to sign that I went over the line, however she was smiling despite of it.
The dinner was awkward. Even Anna seemed bothered when Naveen wanted better silverware and some special plates. And don’t get me started about the food. Even Anna was disliking the guy since she was making jokes out of him without him noticing it. Actually it was kind of funny when she made him feel good about himself, letting him talk about himself. Kristoff didn’t seem to get the jokes but Anna and Elsa were giggling quietly.
Finally it was time to Elsa to go to her room. Unfortunately I could talk to her only when she sees no one else around. So people won’t think her as a crazy person. She yawned widely when she closed the door. “Jack, I am tired. So maybe we can continue tomorrow?” She was suggesting me to leave, well. Obviously I can’t stay in her room anymore since she is getting married. It was a short time deal only. “Good night, snow queen!” Before she managed to hit me with a snowball I closed the door and heard how the snow ball smashed against the door.
I decided to look around the castle. I saw painting of her parents as I walked on the corridor. Then I heard someone. It was Naveen. I peeked over the corner and saw him flirting with a maid. It made me furious and I froze his shoes. Elsa needs to know what type of guy he is about to marry.
Without thinking much of it I flew my way back. Stuff fell to ground because of my speed and curtains were waving in the wind. I blasted Elsa’s door open and I saw how she startled. She was combing her hair when I made my way in. “We need to talk!” I snapped and she was looking at me like she was trying to find a reason for my behavior.
“That Naveen!” I hissed between my teeth. ”Yeah, what about my fiancé?” Elsa crossed her hands and demanded for answers. “He..He..” I felt the anger building up inside of me. “Spit it out Frost!” If people could produce steam I would be doing it right now. “He is flirting with your staff!” I yelled and Elsa’s eyes widened and then she shook her head. “Haha! Funny! No he isn’t.” Why can’t she believe me!
”He is! Anyway he is so not your type!” I yelled again and used some hand gestures to give it more depth. “And you are?” She laughed sarcastically. “Well, at least you couldn’t freeze me when you freak out! I mean you certainly will when you see him kissing a maid of yours!” I breathed heavily from the frustration I am feeling. Now she was furious. “Jack Frost Overland!” She suddenly raised her voice.
“If you can’t be happy for me I order you to leave! At once!” She pointed at the window. ”FINE!” I yelled and made the window open which almost broke it. “It is YOUR problem then!” I jumped out from the window and heard how she ran after me. “And don’t come back!” She sounded really angry. Next thing surprised me. ”WAIT!” I started to hover in the air, not turning around but listened what she had to say. “Please, come to the wedding two weeks from now,” she pleaded, “you’re my first and only friend.” Her voice broke which made me feel sad for her. “I will try,” my voice was low and my throat felt dry. “Thank you,” she whispered back but soon she was again using her ordering tone. “Now, leave!”
I had to take a pit stop on my way to North Pole. Somehow I am feeling miserable. She can’t marry that man. He is bad for her. She needs something better. I need her. What if I lose her? If she stops believing into me when she is married and can’t meet me that often? What will I do? Life is so hard. At least the mountain side is quiet and lets me think under the starry sky. This is my special place which I showed to her months ago. She was here with me. Ah! Why can’t I get her out of my mind for even a second!
A/N: So..Prince Naveen and Elsa.. Thoughts on that? :D
