Chapter 10: Palma de Mallorca
A/N: Just in case if anyone doesn't know, Majorca and Mallorca are both names of the island but I think Mallorca is the official name but I'm more used to 'Majorca'.
2 Days Later...
In Majorca, Balearic Islands...
Mariana and Micah departed out from their airplane as they were now in Palma de Mallorca Airport. It was fifty minutes past five in the afternoon when they arrived. Micah got some euros and they got out of the building.
They took a taxi to their hotel that Micah had previously booked. It was called Helios Mallorca Hotel and it was one of the best-reviewed hotels on the island.
When they got there, Micah paid the taxi driver and they got out. They stood with their suitcases as the tall building towered over their petite figures.
There were two blossoming palm trees on each side, and glass balconies facing them from the front. The exterior design was a lovely cream and there were two other buildings behind it.
"Wow... this is beautiful," Mariana gaped at it like a statue.
"Yeah... come on, let's go inside," Micah held onto Mariana as they entered through the two glass doors of the hotel.
The reception floor was creamy white. There were brown walls to complement it and mirrors on them that reflected the corridors around.
They checked into their hotel room which was on the sixth floor. Micah unlocked the door and they sauntered through the hallway into the living room.
The air had a minty, refreshing smell that brought bliss to Mariana's body. There was a small kitchen with wooden cupboards and a little table that had a toaster. There was a dark purple couch and a small, flat-screen TV on the wall.
"Aww, it's so cozy!" She squealed.
They placed their bags down and began to explore the other rooms in their room.
Mariana opened a door, and it had an indoor jacuzzi. The aqua waters were peacefully ripping with three candles by the tub and another three on the floor. The wooden walls surrounding it were light gray and there were steps to climb in.
"It's so beautiful and clean," Mariana said.
"Yeah, I think I might go in it later today."
"I've always wanted to go in a jacuzzi..." Mariana mumbled to herself.
They left the room and went to the one opposite which was the bedroom.
There were two white single beds with two pillows and a blanket at the end. There were two chairs with a giant mirror attached to the wall. There was a dark brown table at the end, near the window which had a glass balcony but was covered with white drapes.
Mariana and Micah walked over to the balcony and looked over at the whole hotel site.
The hotel had another building adjoined to the one they were at; There was a big, glistening pristine pool that people were swimming in, and rays of sunlight were scattered all over the waters. Palm trees shaded the people who were sat on the row of beach chairs.
"Oh, it's so beautiful!" Mariana's eyes sparkled with joy. She could not wait to go swimming and to feel that sun warming up her skin.
Once they were done admiring the scenery, they walked back and sat on the bed.
"Thanks for bringing me here Micah, this place is really nice."
"You're welcome."
Mariana looked around while slightly kicking her legs. Her necklace was cold against her chest which made her look down to it.
"Oh yeah Micah, there's something else I want to ask you."
"What is it?"
"How did you get my mother's necklace?"
"Well, when you and your family were separated, Xavier called all of us to clean up the premises because he was going to have a meeting. I was mopping the floor and saw it lying on the ground."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I opened it and saw that it had your pictures in it, so I discreetly put it in my pocket so I could give it to you if I ever got the chance."
"Oh wow, did you know you were going to be assigned to watch over me?"
"Not at that time, it was only after we got everything tidied that he gave me your file. He thought I'll be the right person since we are close in age, all the other agents are either in their forties or thirties and only a few are in their late twenties."
"So, you were the youngest agent?"
"Yep, I hated it though. I felt really out of place and the odd one out."
"I don't blame you. I would've felt the same."
"Yeah, but I'm glad I don't have to work there anymore. I was so sick of that place and of Xavier."
"Well, I'm glad you're not like them," She patted his thigh before withdrawing her hand. She was really enjoying his company, especially after losing her only family.
Suddenly, she started coughing violently. She could not stop the coughs from coming up her throat and bent down towards the floor.
"Mariana are you alright??" Micah asked in alarm.
"I don't know..." She continued coughing until blood started coming out.
Her eyes widened at the scarlet stained spot on the carpet. Micah also noticed it and he became filled with worry.
"Oh no..."
"What is it?"
"The virus has started to take effect..." He bent down to her level and tried to straighten her posture.
"What but-" She could not finish her sentence but was interrupted by her coughing.
"We need to get the antidote quick before anything else happens."
Mariana nodded and managed to straighten herself while her coughs became more controlled.
"I hope we'll be able to get it."
"Don't worry, we will," He hugged her tightly as comfort.

8 PM
Before going to bed, the pair were getting ready to go to the restaurant that was on the site for dinner. Mariana was feeling a bit better so Micah suggested they go to the restaurant.
Micah was already dressed in a black shirt, black tie with tiny gold stars, and black pants. Meanwhile, Mariana zipped up her knee-length dress in the bathroom that Micah had packed for her. It was a glittery coral that sparkled like diamonds, and a gray strip that flowed on the sides. She had sliver high heels on and tied up her curly brown hair in a bun with two strands out.
When she looked at her reflection, a forlorn expression washed over her. She looked exactly like her mother and that made her heartache.
She remembered those days when she was young and when her parents would go out to dinner and Xavier would come to babysit and they would have the most entertaining evenings.
She sighed and turned her back from her reflection with a tear escaping her eye. Those memories are all that she had as a memento of a piece of her heart that is now lost forever.
As she exited the bathroom, she stood in the doorway and Micah turned his gaze towards her.
"Wow, you look beautiful..."
"Thank you, you look nice yourself," She smiled sheepishly while a hint of pink could be seen on her cheeks.
Micah smiled and got up from the bed. "Come on, let's go to dinner," He stretched his arm out which Mariana linked hers with and together, they walked out of their room.
They went to the restaurant which was in the building and sat down on a two-seater table. There was a red and white cloth covering it, a bottle of wine, and a napkin with utensils. Three giant mirrors were on the wall, some pictures of the bright beaches and blue seas that were near the island, and a big window where you can see the outside world.
"So, what are you gonna get?" Micah asked, opening the menu.
"Um... I'm not sure," Mariana's finger slid down the sides as she eyed the different dishes.
One caught her eye. It was called Tumbet and it looked delicious.
"Should we get this one?" She turned the menu towards Micah, pointing at the dish.
"Okay, let's get it."
When a waiter came, they ordered their food and poured themselves a glass of wine while waiting.
"So, have you ever been to any of the other Balearic Islands before?" Micah asked.
"No, but I would really like to visit the other ones now that I've been here."
"Maybe after we get an antidote and you're all better, I can take you to the other islands," Micah suggested with a face full of optimism.
"Yeah, okay," She chuckled.
The waiter soon brought their food back and the steam floated up to their noses. Mariana looked at her food while she licked her lips. There were sliced potatoes, eggplants with fried tomatoes on top and parsley.
They started eating and Mariana let out a low moan that vibrated in her throat. "Mmm, this is delicious!"
"It's really yummy, I wonder what they used to make this."
"Do you want to try and remake it?"
"Yeah, I might search up a receipt on google for it."
"Can you cook Micah?" She asked and placed her arms against the table.
"Yeah, I can cook some things."
"Can you make something for me one day?" She asked sweetly, leaning over the table.
"Okay, one day I'll cook you a very nice meal," He smiled.
"Yay thank you!" She rejoiced and continued eating.
After they finished, they returned to their hotel and got ready for bed.
