Chapter 79: Light Ahead

A/N: Not gonna lie, I feel like I'm gonna rewrite a bit of this but anyway enjoy!

A few weeks had passed, and Mariana felt like her life had taken a turn for the better. She has had some fun experiences which allowed her to get out of her house, and allowed her mind to gradually heal since she was reminded of so many things of Micah, but that didn't matter now.

While she was writing her article, she was also on a little FaceTime call with Leilani. She had her laptop up, her phone pressed against the screen, and a nice bowl of ice cream on the side. Mariana was in shining lights today, she had on a beaming smile as Leilani was on the other side, wearing a tank top.

"So, how have you been?" Mariana asked. She hadn't spoken to Leilani for a while with all that's been going on. So they were having a little catch-up.

"Oh, so and so. Not much has happened except Mateo has been walking more."

"Aw, that is so sweet. Where is he right now? Can I see him?" It has been a long time since she had seen his cuddly, small face. She wished they were still here so that she can come and see them.

"Um, I can't be bothered to get out of bed, and he's in the living room with Miguel."

"Oh, that's okay then. Maybe next time." She was a bit disappointed but

"Yeah, anyway, how are you doing?"

"Good! Yeah, my date with Amell went really well." Mariana smiled slowly at the camera.

"Aw, that's nice, I'm happy for you."

Leilani tried to look cheerful, but her grin kept sliding down like she couldn't hold them up.

"What's wrong, Leilani?" Mariana asked her friend since she looked like she was hiding her true feelings.

"It's just that I miss you and Micah, you guys were my favorite," she moaned out of despair.

"I know, I miss that too, but I can't be with him. He made it clear that he doesn't want me anymore."

"I know, I know, but anyway I am happy for you now." She gave a thumbs up at the screen.

"Thanks, Leilani." Mariana felt glad for her friend's support, even though she was still sad about the situation herself.

While they continued talking, she received a message on top of the screen. She went off camera to reply to him. She found it a bit funny and coincidental that they were just talking about him, and now he just sent her something.

Amell: Hey gorgeous, how are you?

Mariana: Hey, I'm alright, just writing a new article and talking to my friend, what about you?

Amell: Oh, I just came back from exercising, I was wondering if you would like to have a picnic later? When you're free?

Mariana: Oh sure, I'll let you know when I've finished ☺️.

Amell: Okay, see you later☺️.

"Leilani, guess what," Mariana said when she switched apps.

"What?"

"I'm going on a picnic later with him," Mariana announced.

"Oh lovely, tell him I said hi."

"Will do! I'm going to go now and finish up this article."

"Okay, I'll talk to you later!"

"Bye, Leilani!" Mariana said and ended the call. She switched her phone off and then focused on her article so that she could get it done by the end of the day.

When she was all done, she and Amell set out to meet at the park in thirty minutes. Mariana got ready in a simple white shirt and black leggings. She wore rose gold sneakers and put on a mini backpack to carry her food. After hours of research and writing, a day in the park seemed like the perfect end.

"Bye, my lovely Rio!" She blew him several kisses and then left the house. She was feeling very affectionate today.

She met Amell halfway and then held his hand as they went into the shops. They pushed their cart along the aisles, throwing in sandwiches, drinks, and snacks to eat on the way and when they got there.

When they were going to pay, Mariana suddenly remembered something important that she forgot to bring.

"Amell, did you bring a blanket to lay on the grass?"

"Yeah, I did, it's in my bag." He tugged the strap of his backpack.

"Oh, okay, that's good." She let out a huge sigh of relief, because if he didn't bring one, then they would either have to sit on the grass and risk ants in their pants, or go home quickly and then get one.

When they reached the park, they found a dry patch under the nice shade of the tree. Mariana dumped her bag on the ground. She was about to sit down when Amell pulled out the big, checkered blanket.

"Come on, let's lay this down."

She went to the other side, and they held it in the air. They flapped it to get rid of any dust and placed it down. Mariana patted down any lumps and took a corner for herself. She took off her shoes and yanked her bag towards her. Amell sat opposite her, and they dumped out everything they had brought.

Mariana licked her lips at the banquet they just made, she took the cheese and ham sandwich first and started eating it. They seemed to be the only ones there which was a relief because empty fields were more relaxing than full of crowds.

"Today was a good day to have a picnic!" Mariana exclaimed.

"Yeah, but I was kind of hoping that you will bring your cat with you," he said as he smiled up at her.

"Oh, sorry, I completely forgot." She rubbed her head in awkwardness, even though she saw her cat before she left. It never occurred to her to bring him along.

"Ha, it's okay, maybe next time."

"Yeah, sorry about that." She laughed nervously and brought out a can of Pepsi. "Hey, do you have any napkins on you by any chance?"

"Um, I think so, why?"

"I want you to do more origami stuff!"

"Oh, okay, let me see if I can find something in my bag." He then started digging through it while Mariana nibbled on her sandwich, like a little mouse with a piece of cheese.

Amell luckily found some napkins and started making stuff.

"This would've looked better if it was colored paper," he said, slightly disappointed that all he had was plain white.

"Yeah, true, but I don't mind, the designs still look good."

Amell smiled up at her before finishing off what he made. It was a crab, with two legs sticking up from the top and from the bottom. All it was missing was a pair of eyeballs.

"Do you perhaps have a pen in your bag?" Amell asked although he wasn't expecting the answer to be yes, that would be nice.

"Um, I don't know, I didn't pack any, but I could check." She searched for a pen, not expecting to find one but to her surprise, she found one buried deep within her bag.

"Found one! Here you go!" She passed it to him, and he drew two eyes.

"Here's your crab Mariana." He gave it to her, and it looked adorable, its small, hexagonal-shaped body laid in her hands with its beady, black eyes looking up at her.

"I love it," she giggled and put it in her bag. "Can you make another animal?"

"Okay, I will make you some pretty butterflies just for pretty Mariana."

"Heh, thanks." She looked away so he wouldn't see that she was blushing a little.

He managed to make two and put them behind Mariana's ears. She grinned, making them lift as if they were trying to fly. She couldn't see them, properly but she felt them and their paper-made, delicate wings.

"I love them! What about a heart? Can you make that?" She was enjoying all these different things he managed to make just out of plain napkins.

"Actually, I can think of something better," he said and got another napkin out. Mariana was intrigued to see what he had in mind as kept low in his lap. She tilted her head and made a sound of confusion as she saw several corners being folded and over themselves.

She wasn't able to see the rest until he brought it up to her eyes. She was shocked to found that he crafted a rose.

"I made you a flower," he said and plucked away some grass. He stuck it under and gave it to Mariana.

"Wow, it's beautiful." She was so impressed by the detailed way he wrapped it up to replicate the actual thing. "How did you get so good at this?"

"Me and my sister used to do together. We used to take them out and play with them in the park."

Mariana was listening, but she couldn't keep her eyes off the beautiful flower. It was so much like the real thing. She thought that she could tie it into her hair but it was a bit too much so she settled it into her lap like it was a lily pad.

"Mariana, can I ask you a question?" Amell asked.

"Sure," she said and then got out a chocolate bar out

"How have you been feeling lately?"

"Um, okay, I guess, well I'm definitely feeling a lot better than I was before," she answered honestly.

"And you really feel like that?" He asked as he looked deeply into her eyes.

"Yeah, I do."

He sighed and then turned away from her.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"I'm so sorry about this, Mariana..." he mumbled with regret.

Before she could react, she suddenly got a bag pulled over her head as she could feel her head being moved around. She screamed, but the walls of the sack muffled them as she got dragged away.

A/N: DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNN! OOH I don't think any of you were expecting that!

Well next chapter your gonna get all the answers so stay tuned!
