Chapter 49: The Journey

In the early morning, Mariana and Micah burst through the fiery flares of the sunrise, holding their suitcases as they sauntered down the sand-looking path leading down to the car. Her hair had two front plaits, two twists, and was tied into the bun along with the rest.

"Aspen here we come!" She exclaimed, clutching onto her suitcase and inhaling the fresh, morning air as Micah followed her, chuckling to himself. He was just as excited for this trip as she was.

"Can we take the Mercedes? I want to try driving it today," she asked, spreading her hands over it as she could now see it clearly in the day. Her fingers slid all over the slippery surface. It was so much better to look at now in the daytime.

"Alright, if that's what you want."

Mariana cheered eagerly and threw her bag in the trunk before getting into the driver's seat. She gripped the steering wheel as she had a good feel around the whole thing. There was a strip of royal blue that went around the controls and everything was so shiny and new.

"Oh, this is nice!" She said, sniffing the satisfying scent of new car smell. She turned the engine on as legs shuffled around, getting comfortable as they now had plenty of room, which was one of the many reasons she liked this brand. Her arms jiggled like jelly, as she tried to keep her excitement down of driving a Mercedes.

"You sure you don't want me to drive?" Micah asked as he threw some snacks in the back and got into the passenger seat.

"We can swap halfway, but I wanna try this out!" She started turning the steering wheel a little, getting ready to drive off.

"Alright," he said and pulled up the middle part which revealed a big screen with a GPS and other features.

Mariana quietly muttered an 'oooh', as Micah set the directions. She was loving all this advanced stuff.

"Okay, ready to go?" Micah said, placing his hands down as he settled back into the seat.

"Ready!" She said but before she got going, she got the enchanted rose out and placed it between her and Micah.

"You're putting that there?" Micah said, his voice toned with surprise.

"Yeah, I want it there while I'm driving." She loved it so much and having it between them felt like it connected them, especially the golden vines intertwining their hearts.

When she got the car going, she put the windows down, allowing the wind to run through her hair like it was Micah's soft fingers scrunching her bun. It felt good to be on the road again, driving out and spending time with her love on this long trip ahead of them.

When it was way past afternoon, and a quick stop at the gas station, Mariana was sat in the passenger seat, downing some chocolate peanuts whilst playing the sudoku game that Mylah gave her. The radio played as Micah kept focused on the still-bright open road.

He fished out his hand toward her without breaking his attention. She turned her eyes to his waiting fingers and was almost not going to give him any because she was enjoying them too much, but decided to pour him some anyway.

"Where did you get that game from Mariana?" He asked, turning her a glance at what she was doing.

"Oh your sister gave it to me," she mumbled into the sweater she wore. She was slouched as her legs sunk deeper. She felt very relaxed and didn't feel like moving.

"That's nice, what is it?"

"Sudoku, it's really fun but I've never actually managed to complete a game." That didn't make her sad though, in fact, it just made the game more interesting.

The radio changed and soon started playing Wants for Dinner by Ciara.

I'm right here when he calls me, yeah.
I'm right here when he needs me, yeah.
I'm the one he screams for day and night.
And always make things alright, alright.

Mariana smiled and hummed along. She was liking the song and especially the lyrics as the words started coming out of her mouth. First, she muttered them, until they gradually turned into her fully having her own show with Micah as the audience.

"You can entertain him all day long, but I know what he likes for dinner," she started to sing the chorus boldly, "girl, you can entertain him all day long, but I know what he wants for dinner." She projected her voice high that it filled the whole car. A smirk crawled along her lips, as she had the window down and panned her hand around like she was directing an ocean of people to sing along. She shook her head around as it swerved to the music.

"Yeah, you can entertain him all day long, but I'm what he wants for dinner." She nodded her head as she smiled with satisfaction, licking her lips like she was agreeing with everything that was said.

Meanwhile, Micah kept giving her concerned glances as she got so much into the song, that it sounded more like an indirect coming out of her lips.

Mariana started moving around a little in her seat. She felt like jumping out and singing to her heart's content. The seatbelt made her feel confined and in a tight space. But soon she would be out and she and Micah would be in their lovely cabin.

"There's nothing you can do to take him away from me, girl," she resumed while stretching out the words, "there's nothing you can say that will ever break him away from me." She couldn't stop smiling as the rhythm went through her ears, exciting her even more as he beat took a sudden drop.

"Girl, huff and puff, try all of old your stuff." She placed her fingers in the air, making them all go down as the words rained out of her mouth. "But my love is built out of bricks, yeah," she exclaimed, her voice blossomed and sprouted out as she placed a hand over her heart. "And your love is built out of sticks. He knows, he knows..." She smiled as she gave herself a little applause.

"Man, Electra really lives rent free in your head," Micah muttered, laughing to himself as he listened to Mariana sing her heart out.

"No! I'm just singing along honey," Mariana said in defense, smiling innocently.

"Mhm sure, singing along with passion," he chuckled, he knew that wasn't just "singing alone," she clearly meant it.

"But you have a very beautiful singing voice though," he turned her face toward him and kissed her lips.

"Aww, thanks." She blushed.

They then got some McDonald's from a nearby drive-thru. Mariana got her portion and took a big bite out of the burger and stuffed some fries into her mouth.

"Bruh, I just got this car and now I'm about to make it dirty," she said, looking through the gaps to make sure she hasn't drop anything.

"We'll just have to be careful," he said as he drank his coke.

When they finally reached Aspen, they drove along the glistening road and got a cabin to rent. They got all their stuff from the car and stood outside their wooden house that was going to be called home for the weekend. The evening lights softly glowed out of the big windows that revealed the few rooms, snow-covered the roof like a clean spotless blanket, and the roaring colors of the sunset flew over the chimney.

They went inside and settled their bags down. There was a brown staircase in the middle, and the living room had cream couches with a fireplace. On the other side, was a dining table and some other chairs that had a good view of the nearby forest.

"Wow I love this place, it's gorgeous," Mariana said, gaping all over the design.

"I know, it's perfect for our weekend," he said, dropping his bags.

Mariana suddenly yawned and rubbed her eyes. They've had quite a long drive and she was getting sleepy.

"Micah I feel like I want to sleep," she mumbled as her eyes became watery. She stumbled a little bit on her feet.

"You do? Why don't you stay here and rest for a little bit while I run down to the store quickly to get some ingredients?"

"Okay, don't be long," she said and did a little wave in her tiredness.

"I won't my beauty," he said and kissed her around her neck, before helping her to the living room where she sat down. He got the fire going before heading out so she won't be cold.

She yawned again and leaned on the armrest. The amber fire was like a dancing wisp inside the disco lights of her iris. It looked like it was shaking its embers to the side. She let out a giggle at how silly she was thinking of a mere fire like that.

She then faced the ceiling and released a sigh. She already felt at home, inside the cozy walls, and now they were going to have the weekend at a ski resort.

She closed her eyes and started daydreaming until she fell asleep.

When Micah came back with some groceries, he made some apple pie and hot chocolate with marshmallows. He put it on a tray and then went to the light to where Mariana was laid across the couch, sound asleep.

He put the food down in front and gently woke her up with a kiss and a shake. She woke up like Snow White, yawning and rubbing her tired-sweet eyes.

"Are you already back?" She mumbled.

"Yeah, and I made you something." He cut her a piece of pie and gave her a cup.

"Oh, thanks." She opened her eyes more fully and blinked them towards the dessert.

He sat down next to her and they began eating in front of the fire. The small crackling was the only thing that was heard in the darkness that was inviting itself in through the windows. The shadow of the fire glazed over their cheeks as they stared into each other's glistening eyes.

"I love you Mariana and I can't wait to spend this weekend with you," Micah said.

"I love you too Micah," she said, smiling like a cartoon flower.

They shared a kiss under the showery flames of love.
