Chapter 42: Night under Waters

They drove off into the enclosing darkness. The road ahead glistened under the mystical sky, enriched with the deepest blue from the hidden depths of the ocean. The stars were like broken crystals scattered throughout the night, leading a path to their destination. Mariana gazed outside, a small smile shaped her stained lips, she licked off the sweet remnants of the jerk chicken as she looked forward to where Micah was taking her.

He took a glance at her and smiled at her smaller figure before looking back on the road. He couldn't wait for her to see what he had planned. Since they were going at this time, they were going to have the place all to themselves.

She suddenly turned around and faced him with the biggest grin plastered on her round face. She noticed him staring from the window reflection and wondered what he was looking at. He reached out with one finger and tickled under her chin, making her giggle and broadened her smile. Oh, that smile... it was the most precious thing to him.

He then pulled into the parking lot and got out."We're here."

Mariana got out from her side and felt comfortable in their surroundings, even though there weren't that many people around but she had Micah so no need to worry. She hugged her arms around herself as a gust of wind quickly passed through.

Micah held onto her hand as they walked toward the entrance. They descended down the tunnel of stairs that led into the unknown abyss of his surprise. He suddenly coughed and rubbed his throat since it felt really dry.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Okay, so where are we going?" She said, smiling in the dark and her head bobbled around like an egg, she felt goosebumps rise along her skin as she shivered from fear and the cold.

"You'll see," he reassured softly and he took her hand. He carefully led her down the steps.

Their footsteps were like tiny clacks penetrating the suffocating darkness. It was the only sound they could hear and it guided them down like it was a candle. They heard a far away drip that splashed into a puddle, and their fingernails tightly tapped on the metal handle they hung onto.

They soon reached the bottom step and they continued walking until the darkness revealed a faze of blue that gently settled on the side of Mariana's face. Her eyes immediately shifted to the sudden change, squinting slightly, as she used her hand as a shade for her forehead.

"Come," Micah said, and they strode towards the light. They were now stood at the entrance and in front was the most exquisite sight she's ever laid eyes on.

All around were blue fishes, big and small, who swam peacefully across the clear glass that held them in place. It curved above their heads, with bright lights enhancing their color in the water. Small bubbles popped out of their mouths and floated around like balloons.

"Woah..." Mariana muttered, her mouth wide open as she gaped at the sight, out of all the things that ran through her mind, this definitely wasn't it.

"This is beautiful."

"I thought you might like it," he said, proud that his idea worked.

"Is it because I like blue?" She said, having her back towards him as her attention was on the greenish coral along the rocky seabed.

"Maybe..." he said, even though that was the exact reason why he chose this place, he thought that with whats being going on this week with her, she deserved to have a break in a place that would make her feel relaxed.

Mariana looked back at him with a smile so bright and everlasting, with her brown eyes that had a little twinkle, and the water waves that shimmered beautifully in them. With that one look, he could tell that she was really happy about this decision.

She walked away from him and went up to the glass. She placed her forehead against her icy-cold reflection that stared back at her through the watery realm. With her palm, she combined their hands together, It was like she was staring at a part of herself that was calm and not disturbed, even they were the same person but from different sides of the glass. Although she was ill and recovering, she wasn't able to experience it at the moment, she hoped that time will come soon again.

Her breath created a cloudy patch and she drew a heart out of it. She sighed as she couldn't keep her eyes away from the small ripples that distorted the water.

"Are you alright?" Micah came up behind her, his deep voice vibrated in her ears and his breath tickled her neck.

She swiftly turned around but was caught off guard by how extremely close he was. It made her flush as her cheeks grew hot.

"Yeah I'm good," she said and took his hand. "Let's go."

They began walking down the enormous aquarium, and the more they got further from the entrance, the more they got sucked into the hidden sea world. Mariana was in awe of everything. She couldn't keep her eyes off the rainbow that reflected off the glossy scales. She felt like she was actually in the ocean, and it made her feel so happy.

"So have you been here before?" Mariana asked, swinging their arms as she held onto him tightly.

"Only one time a few months ago."

"So that's how you know this place?"

"Yeah, also it's the biggest aquarium around here, and the bigger the better."

"That's true," Mariana said, laughing a little while the fishes swam past them in the darker room they were in.

Suddenly they stopped in front of these transparent blue curtains that were the most beautiful shade, they were lined with silver glitter, and completely covered the room behind.

"I've got something to show you," Micah said, his fingers caressing the fabric.

"Really? In there?"

"Yep," he said, still holding onto her hand. He gently separated the curtains and pulled her right in.

The area was much darker and there was a tank that curved around the corner. Micah turned her attention towards it but not at the fish, but at the glowing neon ground where he had something set up.

A glitter-painted banner twinkled in Mariana's eyes like little stars. It had her name swirled onto it, and some roses that were set around with diamonds scattered on top. There was a tray and on it were some gifts that were waiting for her.

"Thank you, Micah!" She exclaimed and ran over to check out her surprise.

"You're welcome, my princess." He smiled while she went ahead and joined her on the ground where she was crouched.

She held a 14K golden bracelet and twirled it around her arm, watching it sparkle as she giggled with joy. It looked so cute and gorgeous. There were also rose-tinted sunglasses, a packet of Gucci hair clips with an auburn-brown pattern, and a jet black classic Chanel clutch.

"Thanks, Micah, I love them!" She hung the golden chain around her shoulder and held her purse in her hand. It really suited her and she adored the color.

"I'm glad you do." He then sat down beside the decoration and looked up towards the ceiling.

His mind suddenly began ticking back to this father's words, echoing throughout his head like his mind was personally mocking him and trying to weigh him down. It succeeded in doing that when his whole body slumped to the ground like there was a gremlin sitting on his chest and a cloud of sadness had encircled him. It was like no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get those words out.

He then looked back at Mariana who was still rummaging through her gifts, at least he was able to make her happy.

She noticed him just sitting down, looking forlorn. "Are you okay?" She asked, taking a seat next to him.

"Yeah, just thinking."

"About earlier?" She scooted closer to him.

"Yeah." His voice dissipated into the air as he mumbled quietly.

"Is it because of what your father said?"

He didn't say anything but just looked around instead of maintaining eye contact. His silence was all that she needed to conclude that it was not in a good place.

"Do you have a good relationship with him?" She asked again. She had wondered this for time and her curiosity grew even more with what happened this evening.

He sighed and then returned his gaze to her. "It's complicated, I don't even know if we do anymore.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

He shook his head. But somehow, deep down, he felt like he wanted to talk about it, just not everything, he didn't want her to know about every single detail. At least not yet.

"There's nothing much to say... my dad sets the bar so high for expectations, but no matter what I do, I can never reach it, it's exhausting," he sighed like he was releasing his last breath. His chest felt empty, his whole body felt empty. Just like the lack of love shown by his father who loved Mason so dearly, too dearly that he would put Electra above him, despite what she had done.

It still hurt and even made him want to cry that he went to the extent of calling her 'family'. Tears brimmed in his eyes because despite her doing so many bad things because Mason liked her, that was enough for his father to like her too, never once he considered his own feelings. Never once did he think about how Micah felt. Even when his mother tried reasoning with him, he only thought of what was good for Mason.

Anyway, he shouldn't be surprised, what was he expecting? After all, Mason wasn't in the wrong when he slept with Electra, it was all Micah's fault according to Aidan.

"Mason gets praised even if he does nothing. If I do something it's not enough, it will never be enough."

"Oh... I'm so sorry Micah." Mariana went to face him and then hugged him tightly. It wasn't fair how his father treated him. It was so unfair and so wrong.

"Don't worry, you're enough for me." She smiled and tried to raise his lips. She rubbed his cheeks and then wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Thanks, Mariana." He hugged her back and nuzzled into her neck.

They were like that for a few minutes before the ceiling started brightening up a little. Mariana noticed it and broke away.

"Micah look!" She squealed, pointing up to where more fish seemed to be swimming in the ceiling.

He got up and the whole place sparkled. It was like snow had fallen, but it was just the reflection of the tiny lights that bounced off the walls. The fish appeared like small dots trapped in the eyes of Mariana. Her body slowly twirled as she kept her gaze on them. It was even more enchanting than the previous area.

Micah suddenly picked her up so she can be higher. She squeaked a little bit but calmed down as she slowly ruffled through his coily hair. Her view was so much better and the elevation made it more beautiful.

He spun her around and kissed her neck while slowly sucking on it. Her head shrunk back as his touch slightly tickled her, so she bent down and kissed him.

They continued spinning slowly like the earth, while deep lip-lock. The waters had tinted their faces blue while their eyes were closed, enjoying each other's taste.

No better feeling and no better moment can be compared than this.
