Chapter 19: Stars

After Micah sent her a message that they would be going out, Mariana changed into black jeans and a white shirt. She tied her hair into a ponytail, and a cardigan around her waist in case her period accidentally leaked through.

She got her phone and keys and kissed Rio goodbye who was sleeping soundly on her bed. She slowly closed her door and went downstairs.

She went outside and Micah just drove in front of her house. She quickly got in his Porsche and they were on their way.

"Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah," she managed to smile while slowly adjusting into the seat. The arch of her back ached as he drove off into the peaceful mist of the night.

She rested her head against the cold, damp grass. Her lashes fluttered over her diamond-like eyes that refracted the moonlight. The multitude of stars splashed out on the empty abyss of time. She let her mind wander on where Micah was taking her so late at night.

She slowly massaged her abdomen, trying to soothe her growing cramps as she felt her period slowly leaking out. She made sure she was sat on her cardigan so no blood would go on the car seat.

When they reached a traffic light, Micah glanced over at Mariana's calm but down-turned face. Her beautiful eyes stared into the distance, and her long curls draped the side of her face like vines. Her lips formed a small frown, so he wrapped his arm around her body and brought her closer to him.

His warm embrace made her eyelids shut, and her lips curve into a smile of safety. She loved being in his arms, especially since it was hers and not his ex's.

Her head laid against his shoulder. Her arms were around his torso as she snuggled up to her Micah and hers only.

When they reached their destination, Micah parked his car on a clear glade and they got out.

It was the perfect time for stargazing. The night was chilly and bright. Millions of glowing stars surrounded them like glitter sprinkled into the sky. They laid under them on the feathery grass that tickled their ears.

"Tonight is looking beautiful," Mariana said.

"Mhm," he opened the trunk and brought out some binoculars and strawberries with chocolate sauce.

"Is that chocolate?" Mariana said hopefully.

"Yep," he said and laid back down. He put the container between them and started looking towards the sky.

They pointed out some constellations, made shapes out of the stars, and chatted while eating the strawberries and chocolate.

Micah used his binoculars and panned the sky to see if he can spot some planets. Meanwhile, Mariana was enjoying her time with him, she had finally had her Micah to herself, it was just them and the stars, nothing else.

She snuggled into his arms, her head laid just under his beard. His chest was warm like a pillow, she snaked her hand under his shirt, wanting to feel his abs, as she closed her eyes.

Micah gently brushed through her hair, a tiny smile appeared on her small face. He kissed her lips, making her body squirm under his touch. He chuckled and brushed a strand away so nothing was blocking her beauty.

He couldn't take his eyes off her, for his love for her was greater than the shimmering diamonds that glazed above them. Having her in his arms was the best feeling and he wouldn't change it for anything else.

He pecked her lips again and went all around her face. Mariana twitched her nose because they were soft like tickles. However, a sharp pain ripped through her stomach which made her turn her body.

Micah continued to look for stuff when one dot caught his eye. It was unusually bright and seemed to stay in one place.

"Hey Mariana, I think I can see something."

"Mm, what?" She said, pressing herself up.

"I think I can see Jupiter."

"Really?" She got the binoculars and started looking.

"It's there." He directed her towards the dot. She zoomed in and out because it wasn't clearing properly, but she could definitely see that something was there.

"I think I can kind of see it." She sat up on her knees and tried to get a better look. Micah held onto her waist so that she won't lose balance.

Mariana stared at the dot and she was able to make out blurry bubbles of a distinct pattern. It was also quite bigger than the surrounding stars so it was a good chance that it could be Jupiter.

"Yeah, I think that's Jupiter," Mariana said as she fell onto his lap. He slid back to where the car was and pulled her along.

"Oh Mariana, I love you so much, you have no idea..." he murmured and started kissing her neck.

She moaned slightly with a big smile on her face and tilted her head to the side. Micah's touch was like fire on her skin. Her breathing intensified and she felt very hot, especially in between her legs.

She turned around to face him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him into a kiss. They rocked sideways slowly until they fell onto the grass.

She continued to kiss him and then suddenly she got an idea. "Micah..."

"Yes, baby?"

"Can you tell me more about that photo?"

Micah groaned and rubbed his eyes in frustration. He turned the other way. "Why you gotta ruin this perfect moment?"

"Sorry..." she said sheepishly and bent over his face, "please? I'm curious," she said, her voice slowly slithering in his ear as she had her hand placed above it.

He sighed towards the ground. He didn't like bringing the subject of the picture in mind but he knew he would have to face it sooner or later.

"Three years ago..." he began.

"I was dating someone called Electra. I was actually dating her in secret so, at the time of the photo, we were just laying in bed late at night and cuddling."

Mariana scowled silently, she didn't like this "Electra" and the way she used to be in Micah's arms.

"I didn't even know she took the picture until I heard the camera. I wanted her to delete it because of paparazzi and it won't be a good look on my parents."

"The very next day, we broke up," he mumbled.

Mariana noticed his tone went shallow and cold. Based on the photo, they seemed quite close so why would they suddenly break up?

"Do you mind telling me why you guys aren't together anymore?"

"I don't wanna talk about it."

"Oh," she said as he suddenly got up. She stared up at his eyes, but instead of seeing the natural green that melted into brown, they had darkened to match the sky above them.

He began to pack up their stuff, leaving Mariana slightly worried.

"Micah, what are you doing?"

"We're going home."

"What? Why?" She questioned. His sudden change of attitude was scaring her.

"I just feel like it's getting late and we've got work tomorrow."

"Yeah that's true..." she said and got up. She didn't want this night to end so soon.

"Come on Mariana," his tone was softer as he ushered her towards the car. Mariana perked up a smile as she got in and they drove back to their homes.
