it brought him sadness and guilt, two things he didn't feel like dealing with. so he pushed her to the back of his mind.

but the dreams... those were harder to keep away.

you could say she was his girlfriend. ranpo didn't care too much about labels, but she insisted that they referred to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend since they were dating.

ranpo didn't realize how much commitment went into a relationship. before they starting going out, she was satisfied with their small conversations before ranpo got bored and started to do something else.

maybe he gave her the wrong idea. maybe she thought she would get more attention if she was dating him.

the assumption was incorrect; ranpo still treated her the same way. when he got bored, he would dismiss her and play some handheld device, or go find a job to do. how she put up with that for so long, ranpo will never know. but she did eventually break up with him.

it was so sudden, at least to him. he announced, mid-conversation with her, that he wanted to go get some snacks. and she wasted know time venting about how uncaring and aloof he was in the relationship. she ended it right then and there, the others in the agency awkwardly looking on.

and so he dreams about those events sometimes. when he wakes up, he brushes it off like it's nothing, but deep down, he regrets his decisions and wishes that she would come back to him.

however, she never does.
