Prologue
I pull my car onto Sunset Boulevard and see cars on both sides of the street. As I get closer to my parents place I can hear loud music and my daughter begins to cry.
She doesn't like loud sounds.
Pulling the windows up in the car I continue to drive until I reach my parents place. When I pull into the driveway I see a massive banner that says. 'Congratulations,' and next to it are two rings. Under the banner it says. 'Engagement party of Bodie and Cassandra.'
He replaced me with another woman. How could he do that me? I mean us.
Stepping out of the car I see Mom talking with Mrs Ramirez. They both look in my direction as I open the back door and get my four year old daughter, Khaleesi, out. "Oh, my." Both women say, before running over to me. Mom looks at my daughter and says. "Is she my Granddaughter? Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?"
Khaleesi's cries become worse as we stand close to the noise. "I'm taking my daughter inside and then we can talk." Both women follow me into the house and I head up to my room. Miraculously it hasn't been touched and I place her in my bed. Pulling the shutter down, I turn on the lamp and exit the room."
Mrs Ramirez has tears in her eyes. "She's so beautiful. She looks like Bodie. Please, tell me that she isn't his?"
"I'm not going to lie to you Mrs Ramirez. Khaleesi is Bodie's child and I want him to take responsibility for her being here. Besides, we were supposed to end up together, when I returned from university and I was the one to get surprised. Why didn't any of you tell me that my fiancé found someone else?"
Mom clears her throat. "You weren't supposed to come back, sweetheart. That's why we never reached out to you. We disowned you, without you knowing it."
Mrs Ramirez gasps.
I slap Mom across the face and her face turns to the side. "How could you do that to your own daughter?"
She looks me in the eyes and says. "You're not my daughter. Marty had an affair with a woman and she couldn't keep you. You were dumped on our doorstep by your mother. We raised you for as long as we could. The moment you left this house was blessing for all of us."
"I hate you." I yell. Walking back to my old room I grab my daughter and head back to the car. I buckle my daughter into the car seat and then give her, her favourite toy."
She snuggles up to it.
I shut the door and then climb into my car. As I reverse out of the driveway I see Mrs Ramirez and she yells. "Stop!"
Pulling over I wait for her to reach me. "Where are you going?"
I shrug. "I don't know. The last option I had was here, but it doesn't look like I'll have the help I need."
She pulls a key out of her pocket and gives it to me. "We have a beach house close to Santa Monica Pier. It's all yours for as long as you need it. I don't want my Granddaughter living on the streets."
