My mum was this close to disallowing me to go to prom. When she found the mess on the kitchen counter yesterday she could have literally buried me eleven feet under. However, she told me, I can't go anywhere today. Meaning, I have to do my own hair, nails and make-up. I won't look half as good tonight because I'm doing all this shit myself. And it's not like I could sneak out because she's home today. I was going to invite Chelsea to help me, but she didn't allow that either. What is the point of this punishment? I don't know.
Spencer is over at Xander's. He plans on actually coming to my door to pick me up because he's a 'really awesome brother'. I wonder how his girlfriend might feel when he shows up with me and not her. Ha, the joys of being a bitchy sister.
"Mum! Please help me!" I whine as I skip down the stairs. She looked back at me from the sofa in the living room, with a wide grin, "Of course!"
So this is why she did what she did. She wants to help me get ready. Wow mum, smooth. She could have just asked.
I walk back upstairs to the bathroom with her, but she decided we go to her bathroom as it is bigger. It doesn't really matter to me; I just need a mirror. I took a seat on a chair that she dragged in from her room and she began with my make-up. I didn't even know my mum knows how to do these type of things. She's a fricking investigator, what does she know about hair and make-up.
"This was your plan, wasn't it?" I blinked up at her. She grinned and nodded her head.
"You're my only daughter and this is like every mother's dream. I couldn't pass up this opportunity. Plus, I'm doing it so much better than a make-up artist would have," she says. I chuckle lightly.
"I love you so much, mum."
"I love you too, sweetie," she replied. She continued doing my make-up in silence. I am beyond excited to see the outcome of this. I have faith that she would do it good, but I'm just really pumped. She has to continuously tell me to stop moving my face and look in a certain direction, which makes me laugh, then she tells me it again. At one point she even threatened to make me look like Frankenstein's bride, which made me immediately sit still.
After she was finished, she stepped back and grinned. She slowly gave me the mirror and I quickly took it from her hands. I smiled widely when I saw my reflection. The first thing I though was that mum was actually really good. My face wasn't caked with makeup, yet it looked really good. The dark eyeshadow really brought out my blue eyes, along with the eyeliner she used, which by the way was done to perfection. My lips were a gorgeous red color, not to bright, but also not too dark. I stood up and engulfed her in a hug.
"This is amazing mum!" I exclaimed. She pushed me away slightly so I could sit again. She went behind me to start on my hair. It's still surprising to me how she knows these things. Parents are supposed to be old and uncool. I smile at my reflection in the mirror, but soon she took it from my hands and put it away. She turned the chair to the bigger mirror and my grin widened.
"I was thinking curls... like on the side, with a braid here..." she outlined where she was putting the braid on the right side of my hair. She put the braid so it would look like a faux side cut, then the curls would be cascading down my left. I was shocked to see her braiding and she was doing it pretty well. I kept turning my head to see the braid in the mirror, but she didn't allow it. I was only smiling. After she was done with the braid, she used some bobby pins to keep the braid in place. Then she began curling.
"Why did you decide to go with Spence and not Xander?" she asked me.
"Well I don't know. He's my brother. And at that time, Xander and I were..." I trailed off. We were still a secret. So I couldn't go to prom with him. "But it's not like I regret my decision. I like the idea of going with my brother," I continue.
"That's nice, honey. I'm glad you're going with him. So you two would come home together, safe and sound, right?"
"Safe and sound," I answer. She smiled and nodded her head approvingly. Minutes later, she was finished with my hair. It was a simple look, but I liked it. Simple is okay sometimes. Also, I would totally prefer this simple style from my mum, than something extravagant from a hairdresser.
"You look absolutely stunning, sweetheart," she says to me. I grinned at her, and noticed she looked like she was about to cry.
"Mum, please don't..." I smile and walk to her.
"Okay, okay," she says and nods her head. I hug her, and again she pushed be back, "Please don't ruin it."
"yes, okay," I step back. I grab my phone and was about to walk off, but my mother stopped me and took the phone from my hands.
"I'll take this, while you get dressed," she stuck it in her pocket. I rolled my eyes and walked out of the bathroom. I went to my room and opened my closet, smiling as I stared at the dress hanging on a hanger, looking as majestic as a golden unicorn. It makes me want to cry, honestly. Mum stepped up behind me and I think I heard her sniffling for a split second. I giggle then reach to take it down.
"Okay, let's get it on!" I smile widely at her. She nodded her head vigorously.
"Please don't ruin your hair and make-up," she says to me as I begin to put on the dress. I nod my head, but my eyes were focused on the dress as I step into it. My mother helped me zip it up and fix my hair properly over it. I didn't look into the mirror until I had on my silver necklace and a pair of silver earrings in my ears. I bought a few bracelets, which I slide onto my wrists with ease. I took a seat on my bed and got out my shoes. I put them on and strap them up, then stood up. I'm already tall, and these heals are making me a whole lot taller. I'd be taller that Spence, which is awesome.
After all that was done, I made my way to the standup mirror. I took in my reflection and a smile found its way on my lips. I looked back at my mother who was sat on my bed, and realized she was tearing up. I walked to her and she stood up and hugged me.
"You look so grown up," she sobbed softly, "I'm going to miss you so much..."
"I'm going to miss you too, mum."
"Okay, don't cry. Make-up," she reminded me. I laugh softly and pull away. I took a deep breath then walked back to the mirror. My hands ran over the material of the dress. I looked so different. I felt like myself, but with the makeup and the dress, I look so different. Now I know why mum is crying.
The doorbell rang and I looked out the window. I began to laugh when I saw a fricking black limousine at in the street. "Spence is here!" mum squealed. I nod my head and grabbed a small black purse and headed out of the room behind my mother. She gave me my phone before she opened the door, revealing my brother, in a black suit and a smile on his face.
"Oh my god, Spence, you look so good," I gush. His grin never faded, "Thank you, you look good too."
I walked to him and hugged him then kissed his cheek.
"I have something for you," he wore a proud grin.
"And that is?"
"A croissant or whatever they call it," he says as he took out a white corsage. I laughed, "It's called a corsage."
"Same difference," he laughed and slid it on my wrist.
"Guys! I want a picture!" Mum says to us and appears with a camera. I laugh softly and stood in a simple pose with Spence. The camera flashed a few times and I squinted my eyes. I think I got one good picture though.
"Group pic!" I heard Troy's voice from behind us. When I looked back I saw them all piling out of the limo and I smiled. Troy was the first, in his blue suit, which drew a lot of attention to him, but he looked good. Jay wore black, Chelsea wore a royal blue, mermaid style dress and she looked really nice in it. Her hair was styled to prefection, she looked like a model. And then there was Xander, who wore a white suit, but the pants were black. He looked absolutely amazing and he also stood out, to me.
We assembled ourselves for the picture. Once the first picture came out good, we began making funny faces and awkward poses. Those will be the best pics. After the photo opt was over, we went back to the limo, clinging to our dates.
"You guys look really nice," I compliment them all.
"Thank you, babe," Jay says, "You look great too."
"Yes, you do," Xander agreed.
"Thank you," I wink at him.
"So, uh how did you guys afford a limo?" I finally ask them. Spence smiled, "Chelsea's dad fucking sponsored it."
"Well thank you Chelsea," Troy spoke. She smiled, "It's nothing. We're meant to have a banging time tonight, yeah?"
"Definitely!" I answer. The conversation flowed on nonstop and before we knew it, we were at school. I feel like I haven't seen this place in ages. I actually miss it. Girls walking in with their dates looking fabulous, and so did the guys. I don't dislike anyone is school, so I say everyone looked perfect. I couldn't help but smile.
I walked into the huge gymnasium with Spencer, and was greeted by a flashing camera. The gym looked beautiful. I don't know who did this, but they did a pretty exquisite job. There were helium balloons at the ceilings of different colors and random balloons on the ground. The streamers were colorful, and the curtains made great decoration. I feel so happy right now. This looks amazing, its transformed. The music is great and people are dancing like crazy, some just sitting, other standing around and talking. Then that one kid who's at the refreshments table eating. I like her.
"Let's dance," Spence said to me and I nod my head. Dancing, everyone loves it, but totally sucks at it. But no one here is judging so fuck it. I have the most retarded dance moves but it was totally okay because the only person laughing at me is my idiot brother, but I'm totally okay with that. Plus, I'm dancing amazing, compared to Jay and Troy. I began to laugh when I saw them.
After a long while of dancing with everyone, we found a table that fits all six of us. I was sipping on a drink as the rest of them was talking about some girl who was dancing like a chicken or whatever. They couldn't stop laughing at that shit. I looked around the room. Most people have stopped dancing and taken a seat to talk. Then there are the chosen few who just loves the song and doesn't stop their 'awesome' dancing. I joined the conversation afterwards and we talked and laughed and laughed and talked for ages.
Soon after, a cliché slow song came on and we all got up to dance. It wouldn't have been a prom without a slow song. I danced with my brother, successfully managing to not trip or step on his foot.
"You know, I'm actually going to miss you," he says to me. I laugh softly and agreed, "Same here. It'll be so weird waking up and not hearing your loud voice throughout the house."
"Well there isn't anything specific I'll miss about you, you're an annoying brat."
"Fuck you," I laugh.
"I'm kidding. You may be annoying as hell but you're my sister nonetheless and I love you. You know that right?"
I nod my head in his chest. These type of things only happen once in a lifetime, so I feel really good about that. We still have the entire summer until we separate, but I don't think we might actually be this emotional then. "Love you too, big bro," I tell him. He pulled away slightly and stared at me, and I nodded my head. "I'm never letting this go."
"Trust me, you will forget it," I rolled my eyes.
"Trust me, I won't, little sis." I should not have said that. I just dug a deep, annoying hole for myself. But it's sort of, kind of worth it because he's Spencer Vega. I laugh at my stupidity softly then continued to dance. I am so proud of myself for not tripping. It would have been so embarrassing. I look so gorgeous, then I trip and fall on my face like a complete avocado.
After a while, I notice Chelsea and Xander going to sit at the table again. I don't want to leave Spence, but all fricking night I barely got to touch Xander, which is completely fucked up. Now is obviously my opportunity because Spence seems like he's getting a bit tired. He noticed my eyes on his best friend and he only laughed, "You can-"
"Thank you," I interrupt him. I stopped dancing and led him back to the table. He took a seat next to Chelsea. See, I didn't want her alone, so I brought Spence. I'm not a bad guy.
I stand in front of him and he stared up at me.
"Hey, you owe me a dance."
"Just one," I tease. Xander rolled his eyes and stood up then took my hand, leading me back out to the dancefloor. I felt so much better when I finally draped my arms around his shoulders and his on my waist. I bit my bottom lip, "I missed you all night."
"I know, babe. I missed you a little more, especially in that dress," he winked, "You look amazing, by the way."
"Thank you, as do you," I tell him. He smiled then leaned down to kiss. I can't remember the last time I kissed him.... Probably yesterday or something. That's like an entire twenty-four hours. I deserve this. I open my mouth, allowing his tongue to slide in. The kiss was, unfortunately, short. He pulled away slowly and continuously pecked my lips.
"I love you so much," he says to me.
"I love you, too." Tonight just seems to be filled with Love. I felt like I said 'I love you' about twenty fricking times. I'm not complaining, because I like saying it to people who deserve it, like Xander.
"Remember yesterday, when you asked me if I was sad about thinking about college and leaving?" I asked him and he nods his reply. I continue, "The answer is no. I'm not sad. I mean, I'll miss you guys, but I know I have to do this. I have to leave. We have to be separated. You guys won't ever be forgotten though."
"That's great, baby. I'm happy you're happy."
"Also, I still have summer to spend with you guys."
"Exactly," he nodded. We danced silently for a while, but then I asked, "So how's Chelsea?"
"Not bad, actually. She actually danced with me. She's never done that, like dance at a public event."
"I'm glad she's happy now," I honestly tell him. He nods his head, "So am I."
We danced silently again and this time I didn't interrupt the silence. I like the song that was playing, so I'm obviously not going to disturb it with my awkward as fuck voice. After the song was over we went back to our seats. Jay and Troy were already there. I took my seat next to Xander. I think it's totally okay to be with someone other than your date. Plus, half the night is over.
Xander's arm was around my shoulder and entwined our fingers, as usual, and lean back on his shoulder. The room was filled with soft music and teen chattering. "You two look good," Chelsea spoke to Xander and I. I nodded a thanks while Xander voiced it.
"You know what's weird..." Chelsea said to us, "I only met you guys a month ago and I'm going to miss you so much."
"Chels, we have summer," Troy reminded her.
"I'm leaving next week. It's what my dad wants," she says sadly.
"It's okay love, we'll come visit you throughout the summer," Jay says to her. She flashed a sad smile, "It's weird how quickly time flies..."
"Yeah, just a few years back we were freshmen... now we're high school graduates," Spence added.
I chuckle lightly, "You know what's funny? I remember back then; all I could think of was why time was moving so slowly. I thought like I would never get out of this place."
"Now your just wishing it would move that slow, huh?" Troy spoke, "I bet summer is going to fly by and before we even realize, we all have to go."
"I hate thinking about that shit," I mumble.
"Yeah, but that's reality, babe," Xander reminded. I sigh, "I know..."
"I really am going to miss you guys," Chelsea says sadly, "You guys were my only real friends. We've been through some stuff, but it didn't separate us."
"I agree with that statement," Troy says and glanced at Jay. He then randomly kissed him and I smile. I always smile when they are cute like that.
"Same here," I nod my head and my eyes lock with Chelsea's. I smile at her.
"Okay, to friendship, yeah?" Spence held up his drink. I giggle and raise my drink, along with everyone else at the table.
"To friendship," We all agreed in unison.
