Chapter 3
Sans nervously clicked his fingertips onto the counter, watching Bill accept the cup of coffee he made. After that weird first meeting, he quickly gave Bill a tour of the house in person, showing him his bedroom and the bathroom.
"You're great at making coffee! I love the way it burns my tongue!" Bill beamed, as if he didn't realize how weird his sentence was.
Sans wasn't sure how he felt about this guy. He seemed nice, but sometimes he said things that were really unusual. And, in the ten minutes that he was here, he flirted with Sans twice. Then, of course, there was the dream, that Sans didn't bother concerning himself over until the exact same face of the 'soulmate' in his dream showed up.
Soulmates weren't real. But Sans never saw this guy until now, how did his dream exactly match him up?
"Oh, man, this is going to be really weird," Sans groaned, "Uh, Bill, I was wondering... have ya had any... eventful dreams last night?"
Bill paused. Great job Sans, perfect first impression on his new roommate. But really he was doing it to settle his own curiosity. His dreams were usually nightmares, it was weird to have such an unusual dream like that. If whatever happened in the dream was true, then logically, Bill should have also had that same dream. Of course, there was no way he'd actually -
"Now that you bring it up, I did," Bill said, "It was funny. You were in it, and said you were my soulmate."
Sans choked on his coffee.
"Do you think we're soulmates?" Bill asked, leaning forward with a wide grin. "I think so! You're adorable!"
With a blush, Sans averted his gaze. "Yeah, no, definitely not soulmates. I don't believe in that kinda crap."
Bill pouted. "Aw, not even one date?"
Sans leaned against his hand. Geez, this guy was weird. What a way to meet a roommate. Did he really believe in that kind of stuff? Soulmates weren't a thing, or else Alphys probably would have discovered that during her soul experiments. It was just some weird dream, nothing to it.
While lost in his thoughts, Sans didn't realize Bill circled around the counter before he was towering over Sans, leaning in close to his face.
"I do believe we're soulmates," Bill said, grasping one hand in his own and kissing the top of it. "Would you like to go on a date with me?"
Sans yanked away his hand without giving the human a chance. "What - no, hell no! Soulmates ain't real! I gotta go meet my bro anyway, I'm checking up on his diner."
"Oh, can I come?" Bill pushed his hands together in his questioning manner. "I should meet the family of my new roommate! And I could support your brothers business by buying some foooood." He dragged out the last word, singing it with a soft smile.
Taking a moment to think, the small skeleton sighed. The last point got him. "Fine, yeah, you can come."
"Yay!"

There were quite a few changes that happened to the Greasy Diner since Papyrus took over. The first notable one was the name. Papyrus' Diner. The inside was more cleaned, squeaky clean, with more classic paintings amongst the walls, yet keeping quality food for cheap prices. Sans was happy to see his bro thriving, and often stopped by to make sure he was doing fine. He and Mettaton had just moved in together, and were considering marriage, thus why Sans lived apart from him.
"So you're new roommate, who not only flirted with you, also had the same dream of you about being your soulmate?" Papyrus asked.
Sans took a glance towards Bill. Honestly, the guy was unpredictable. He just suddenly started flirting with Sans left and right, then happened to have the same type of dream as Sans. Bill and Undyne seemed to already be becoming friends, eagerly discussing how she lost her eye in a fight. Undyne loved to brag about that, for whatever reason.
"Yeah," Sans sighed.
"... And what part of him are you not looking at, brother?" Papyrus asked, gesturing towards Bill.
Sans snorted. "It ain't just about looks, Paps."
Yeah, it was pretty darn clear the new roommate Sans had was hot. Like, unreasonably hot.
"I mean, we just met in person today, and while he did say my puns were funny over text, I don't know much about him." Sans scratched the side of his face awkwardly. "Well, I know he's got a real good credit, and that he's an amazing cleaner, but I don't know anything about him as a guy. And, also, we live together. So if we did go out, and it went horribly wrong, I'd have to live in that awkward environment. No thanks."
"But Sans, you've had one nighters and friends with benefits before, and it's clear this man is attracted to you!" Papyrus said. He pushed back against his seat, looking at his older brother worriedly. "You haven't had a date in a long time, and since I moved out, I'm worried that you'll be lonely. And here is a nice looking guy who's interested and may potentially -"
"Probably isn't."
"- But maybe -"
"Ain't at all."
"- Your soulmate!" Papyrus huffed. "Stop interrupting me and my fantastic logical skills!"
He laughed at his brothers small outburst. It's been a bit since he managed to tease his bro. "Okay, okay, I'll stop."
Papyrus nodded. "Good!" Undyne and Bill continued in the background, Undyne flexing her muscles as her bragging increased. "I'm just really worried that you'll be single forever. You haven't had a date in a long time, here's your chance! Sans, he's hot! And I only talked to Mettaton once before I asked him out, you have much more progress than I did!"
Sans couldn't say why he felt off about this, he just did. Maybe it was his low self esteem, butting in once more into his life. After all, this was too good to be true. Here arrives a new roommate, one that saved him after he tripped, is handsome, has some good cash, perfect credit score, and also apparently had the same dream of being Sans' soulmate and hit on him? It was too good. Like those romance movies, with the exaggerated romance Papyrus and Alphys would gush about.
It was just a little too good. There had to be more.
But, at the same time, it's been awhile since Sans actually felt loved. Maybe, for once, he could let himself get swept up in these feelings.
"You think one date couldn't hurt?" Sans asked quietly.
"Of course it couldn't! If it doesn't work, you can always just return to friends, just like how Frisk and I did. Nyeh heh heh!" Papyrus adjusted his scarf, looking at Sans happily.
"Yeah, that could... maybe, I'll think about it." Sans nervously twisted his bottle of ketchup. "But he isn't my soulmate. I'm sticking by that."
They soon returned to a normal conversation, dwelling over Papyrus' diner and his lover. Mettaton recently joined work with Pacifica, the little girl was a surprisingly good actor, and Mettaton took her under his wing to become a star. Mabel sometimes helped work on props, and the twins were still good friends with Frisk. Frisk, though, was on the adventure with Stan and Ford, who went to the next town over and picked up Frisk to join them. The kid always needed to be on adventures, it seemed. They still texted often, so it was cool. Toriel and Asgore finally got over their history, and were dating again. Everything was working out well. They were happy, on the surface. It was good.
That could be another reason why Papyrus was so worried. Sans was the only single one from their group. Everyone else had someone but him, it only made sense to stress. If Sans had a date and Papyrus was single, he'd probably be losing sleep over his lonely bro.
And Bill was surprisingly fun to be around in the diner. Sans underestimated him. The guy was crazy and weird, for sure, but it was still fun. He lightened the mood with weird jokes, never taking anything seriously. And he laughed at Sans' puns, which was always a plus. He was weird, but a cute weird, in a way.
"So you like ketchup?" Bill asked, turning towards Sans.
Sans idly set his keys onto the counter, pulling open the fridge to store his newly obtained gifts. "Yeah, I know it's weird, but ya know... I like ketchup."
"Eating ketchup alone is usually considered repulsive," Bill said, "I think that's adorable."
Sans' face dropped blue at that remark. It's the first time anyone's complimented his ketchup drinking habits of all things. Who would find drinking ketchup attractive?
"I uh, about the date thing..." Sans muttered, "You can... take me on one... if you'd like."
Bill perked up, wide, unnatural grin spreading on his face. "Really?" He asked giddily.
"I just have one question." Sans settled down in front of him, hands folded together as his fingers nervously tapped. "How come yer interested in a guy like me? It doesn't feel like you moved all the way out here just to get stuck here with me. You have the looks, you shouldn't be suddenly wanting to get into a relationship with some skeleton who can't even use a knife. I don't have anything to offer ya. Why?"
Bill blinked, golden eyes trailing about Sans' face as he searched for a response. Holy crap, those eyes. This guy was like, scientifically built to attract Sans in, he was stupidly hot. There was something wrong with it, this was all to convenient and... perfect. He was like a web, and Sans was the fly being attracted to it.
"Because we're soulmates, aren't we?" Bill asked, "You're cute and I like you. And you have a lot to offer me just by being you!"
There was a moment of silence before Sans groaned in defeat. "Fine, fine, ya win. We can go on a date, you giant flirt. But you're paying."
"Yay!" Bill was quick to hug Sans, tight and close.
Right into the web of lies Sans flew.
