Thirty-Six
The cloaks had somehow vanished from the front yard while Steve and Dare had their therapy session. However, the yard was still a mess from the series of mini battles that took place there. But Dare focused his sights more on the forest trees in the background.
His memories had taunted him for years, yet this was the worst it's ever been. But then again, it was like his daughter was taken from him once again.
Dare leaned back against the wall, comfortably cradled next to the wooden stairs. Losing Jenny took a huge toll on him, but if he lost Casey...there might not be anything left of him.
He glanced down at his legs and noticed that one of the pockets was oddly shaped. He unzipped it and pulled out a smaller version of an end portal that was the size of his palm. He had completely forgotten about the device. It was a transmitter that could send messages to the other transmitter. Elaine had given this to him when they all had left the End. If anything happened, he was to use this.
He clicked the small black button in the middle and a keyboard hologram popped up. Dare hesitated to type the message in.
Should I discuss it with Steve first? He wondered.
No, he will take too long to decide. Casey doesn't have much time left anyways.
Dare stared intently at the keyboard. This could be the moment that determines everything - Casey's life, the rise or fall of The Assassin, and Herobrine's rise to power. Deep in his heart he knew he had to do it.
His hand pressed the little keys in the air that typed out the message:
Agent Hillsman has been captured by Herobrine's accomplice. The mission must be terminated to save Hillsman's life. The Ender Council must declare war on The Assassin and I shall rally my team to help.
The message was clearly typed out, but Dare was having a difficult time sending it.
The Ender Council might reject my wishes since they already think I'm unstable.
Might as well try. It's the only thing I can do for Casey.
That was enough to convince himself. He clicked send on the keyboard and it was immediately sucked back into the mini portal. Dare let out a deep breath he didn't know he was holding. Finally, this could all come to an end and return back to normal.
A minute later, a video chat appeared. Dare clicked on it and it revealed
Elaine on the other end. He couldn't help but smile at her. It had been awhile since he had seen her and he forgot how beautiful she was.
"Darrell, what's going on?" Elaine asked, pulling Dare from his thoughts.
"The Assassin attacked us at the house and teleported away with Casey. Elaine, she's going to die if we don't stop The Assassin."
Elaine sighed on the other side and rubbed one of her temples. "What happened to Herobrine? He was involved, wasn't he?"
Dare only realized then the lack of Herobrine lately. "I...I don't know exactly ma'am. The attack recently was suspected to only involve The Assassin."
"Do you know where Casey is being held?" She asked, and Dare could tell that this was beginning to worry her.
"No, I don't know. But maybe you can track her by the Ender eye she carries around with her. It is palace technology so you should be able to trace it." He suggested. Elaine's focus suddenly went to something beyond his own screen. She then ordered something inaudible to one of the guards who ran off to fulfill it. Dare watched this all with interest, but was mostly anxious for the results.
"The eye is supposedly located on the outskirts of a town called Blockport. I'm sending you the coordinates now." A second later a little icon message appeared with the coordinates.
"If we traveled there, about how long would it take?" Dare questioned.
"About two to three days on horseback. But that's an estimate." Elaine responded. Dare didn't reply or ask another question. In fact, the news seemed to crush him on the inside. It was questionable if Casey was alive now and waiting three days? The chances of her surviving were low.
"Dare..." Elaine's voice was soft on the other side. Almost like she knew what he was thinking. He lifted his head towards the screen so she could see his pain filled eyes. "It was today, wasn't it?"
He nodded solemnly. Elaine wasn't as close to Jenny, but she knew how much Dare cared for her. She was the only who knew the entire story besides Steve.
"Don't worry. We won't let it happen again, I promise."
Dare shook his head. "The only way we can do that is if The Assassin is taken down. I don't know if we can do that, especially when most of the people in this house are injured."
Elaine peered curiously at him. "Exactly how many people are in the house? I thought only Steve and Alex lived there."
"They do, but ever since the bombing, some others had to stay here. Notch is one and he brought three of the guards with him along with this other guy who I think is his secretary. So all together that would've made...nine of us."
Elaine's eyes widened, probably from shock, but she didn't seem upset or angry. "Oh, wow. That's a lot more people than I suspected. Out of all of you, who's injured?"
"Let me think. Donny, Notch, Steve, and I think Gabe are all physically injured. But we all need mental protection from The Assassin. She likes to scramble people's thoughts and emotions as a weapon."
Elaine nodded and quickly rushed off screen before returning soon after. In her hands were ten potion bottles with similar looking substances inside.
"There should be a small button on the side of the transmitter. If you click it, then the transporter will be enabled. I will transport ten instant healing potions to you. Use the ones you need and keep the extra for the battle."
Dare followed her instructions and clicked the button on the side. Elaine then placed a single bottle next to her own transmitter. Suddenly, the bottle began fading away until it was gone. It then reappeared in the grass next to Dare. She repeated this until all ten of the bottles were in Dare's possession.
"Wow...thank you." Dare said. Elaine smiled back at him.
"That's not all. I'm sending you these collars that will prevent The Assassin or any other person for that matter from entering your minds." Elaine pulled out a small black box and transported it over to Dare, right next to the potions.
A smile tugged at his lips as he glanced over all the items. "I really appreciate this."
"It's nothing, just saving the world is all." Elaine said with a playful shrug. A moment of silence was shared between them and Elaine became more serious. "I will meet the the Ender Council and the army will meet your group at the coordinates."
Dare nodded. "Okay, I guess we will meet you then."
Elaine was quiet for a few moments on the other side. "Dare, I love her too. We will get Casey back." And with that, the screen went blank. Dare clicked the button on the side of the transmitter that shut it down. He had everything that they really needed, but there was still one extremely large obstacle.
Dare had to tell them all the truth. There was no way to determine how they'd react, but he had a pretty strong hunch that Notch's reaction wouldn't be the prettiest. Still, he had to do it.
He tucked the transmitter back into his pocket and gathered up all of the items. The potions were a bit tricky to hold, but he had succeeded without dropping any. He entered the house to see that it had been empty.
"Hello?" He called out. Nobody answered, which was a bit odd for the amount of people living in it.
Dare walked into the closest room, which was the kitchen, and saw that there was still the absence of people. However he took a glance out of the back door and saw Wilson tending to the garden and Gordon back in the forest collecting wood.
Well, at least there's some people. Dare thought to himself. But the person he really wanted to talk to was Steve. He could at least be able to talk to his brother and the others.
Dare stepped back out of the kitchen. He took one step out the door and was tripped up by something underneath him. A screech was heard and Dare protectively cradled the objects as he came crashing to the ground.
"Oh my Notch. Dare, are you alright?" A voice called out. Somehow all of the potion bottles remained intact and nothing broke.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Dare replied with a groan as he lifted himself off the floor. He came to find out that the object that he had tripped over was actually a peculiar looking cat.
"Sorry." He mumbled towards the cat. He was a bit taken aback when the cat actually seemed to sneer at him.
"Dare, what's all that in your hands?" Steve asked as he helped Dare up onto the couch.
"Instant healing potions and mind guarding collars. Elaine sent them to me." Dare sat all of the items on the seat next to him. Steve just stared with wide eyes and his mouth gaped open.
"Okay...why?"
Dare chuckled nervously before answering. "Well for the...uh...battle."
"Battle?! Most of the team still can't even move!" Steve's hands went flying in the air in frustration. "Why would Elaine make that call?"
"She didn't...I did." Dare answered sheepishly.
"What? Why would you do that? You know we aren't ready for this!" Steve groaned as he fell back on the recliner. The cat perked up and sat precariously on his paws.
"Casey doesn't have much time left so I had to make the call. There's already a chance that she might not be alive and this chance will get greater with each passing minute. Please, you have to understand.
"Dare...there are people still injured."
"I know. Elaine sent me these instant healing potions just for that problem." Dare held one up to show him. Steve quickly snatched the bottle out of his hands and examined them.
"What...what about the telepathic thing she can do?"
Dare smiled and held up one of the collars. "Mind guarding collars. The Assassin will never be able to penetrate our heads."
"But, but..." Steve was searching for possible excuses. "We have no training whatsoever!"
Dare stared at him with an exhausted expression. "Our team contains Notch-the creator and most powerful god, four of the most highly trained guards in Minecraft, two semi-gods who were trained to fight since birth, and me-the commander of the Resistance. We don't need training. Plus, Elaine is sending not only herself, but the entire Ender army."
Steve stared back at him, dumbfounded. "Oh. Well...oh. What about food and supplies?"
"You have a village with a market."
"What about transportation?"
"Rent some horses, or you could steal some." Dare answered with a careless shrug.
"You can't just steal horses. And couldn't you just teleport us there?"
Dare sent a chilling glare towards Steve, one that could freeze the nether over. "Remember last time I had to teleport us somewhere?"
"Oh...yeah. Forgot."
He sighed heavily. "Steve, I know this may seem sudden, but I need you to be on my side. I'll have to tell Notch and the others the truth and I'll definitely need your help with that. It's the right time, I'm sure."
Steve's hand rubbed his eyes and he slowly stood up from the recliner. He was hesitant at first, but agreed that it was the right time.
"Okay, I get it. But we are going to have one heck of a time explaining this to the others."
Dare grinned widely. All he needed was to get Steve on board and the rest would fall into place. At least he hoped.
First, they brought in all of the potions with little explanation into Steve's room and made everyone who was injured take it. It was like a miracle was playing before them. Donny was the first to receive the potion since he was in the worst condition. All of the cuts and bruises healed up in a few seconds, all except for the scar peeking out from under his shirt. Dare couldn't help but take in a sharp breath at the sight of it. Only him, Gabe, and Casey knew what truly happened back in the castle.
Donny's eyes fluttered open after a minute. "Dear Notch..." He groaned.
"Yes?" A head peeked out of one of the doors.
Donny ignored him and continued to grumble and complain. "What happened?"
"Gave you a potion of instant healing." Steve explained. Dare stepped over to the next bed which was occupied by a sleeping Gabe. He poured the potion into Gabe's mouth and waited for it to do its job.
It took about half the time for Gabe to gain consciousness and his reaction wasn't as intense as Donny's, who was still tossing and turning in his bed. By this time, Notch and Alex had emerged from the personal bathroom. Alex's arm had been bandaged up but neither tried to draw attention to it.
"Here Notch." Steve handed him one of the potions. "Take this. It's an instant healing potion."
Notch stared at it in suspicion before taking it. "Where'd you get it?"
"Notch, just take the damn thing." Alex ordered with the roll of her eyes. He did as he was told and drank it in a couple gulps.
This change was astonishing mostly to Steve and Alex because not only did it renew his energy and clear his mind, but it also got rid of all the effects of his stress. His pale skin turned back into a healthy white, the dark circles under his eyes were cleared, and the muscle tone returned instead of being sickly thin.
"Notch, you look..." Alex stared up at him with a wide smile spreading across her face. "You look like you used to."
His eyebrow arched upwards. "Is that a good thing?"
Her head nodded and she pulled him into a hug. Dare didn't really understand what all of the emotion was about but it sounded like it was a personal thing.
"Steve." Dare said to catch his attention then tossed one of the potions his way. It tipped off his fingers and almost smashed against the floor but he somehow caught it in time.
"Don't do that." Steve mumbled. Dare couldn't help but snicker over at him.
He glanced over at Alex and noticed the bandage that wrapped around her hand and partway up her arm. "Alex?" He offered.
Alex shook her head, almost a little too quickly, and tucked her arm behind her back. "No, I'm fine. Nothing to waste a potion on."
"We have extra-"
"I'm fine, really." She asserted with a small, forced smile.
Steve took the potion and was immediately filled with a new vigor. His leg, which had been broken since the explosion, was completely healed and stronger than ever. "I feel like I could run a marathon."
"Well you can't because we have to save our energy. Can you please go grab Wilson and Gordon from the backyard?" Dare asked. Steve nodded and sprinted out of the room, almost like he was showing off his new and improved leg.
"Wait, why's he getting the others?"
"Why do we need to save our energy?"
"What's with the potions?"
"How the hell did I get here? I was just in the castle."
Dare's eyes widened as all the questions were rattled off. What he said out loud was, "Don't worry we will explain everything, just as soon they get in here." What he said in his mind was, Damnit Steve get in here now I swear to Notch if I get beaten up by your friends I'm going to freaking kill you.
Dare didn't need to wait too awful long and the others came in just in time. Wilson was covered from head to toe in dirt and Gordon had leaves stuck to him. Both looked out of breath while Steve beamed with energy and satisfaction.
"What...did you...want?" Wilson asked between breaths. Dare guessed that Steve made them sprint inside even though it really wasn't that far from the house.
"This...this is going to be extremely long and confusing so I'm going to ask that we all sit in the living room." Dare gestured toward the door. Everyone peered at each other weirdly but they all stood up and walked into the living room.
Everyone found a place on the furniture while Dare and Steve stood in front of the TV facing their way.
"Okay, what's this about? You both are acting weird, especially you." Notch pointed a finger at Dare.
Dare took in a deep breath to calm his nerves before beginning. "I'm going to just come out and say it. We haven't been totally honest with you all."
"What?" Alex and Notch shared a look of suspicion and astonishment.
"I'm not a retired general, Casey is not my daughter, and Steve didn't stumble on our house. All of that was a lie."
"Then who are you really?" Gordon asked with more curiosity than anything else.
Dare sighed and knew this was the part where things would turn. "I'm Commander Darrell Smith of the Ender Protectors, previously known as the Resistance. Casey Hillman is an undercover agent who personally serves for our queen."
The entire room was eerily silent for surprise (except Gabe, he wasn't fazed by the news), but the only reaction Dare needed to keep an eye on was Notch. "So...so you're part Ender." Notch mumbled.
"No, sir. I'm fully Ender."
His eyes widened and he physically backed as far as he could away in his chair. "But...but-"
"How are you not affected by me? Because I'm in my human form, which hides all Ender aspects. The only way for you to be affected by me is if I did this." Dare unzipped one of his other pockets and pulled out an eye of Ender. Concern grew on Notch's face but Dare put it away before anything could really happen.
"Is...is Casey Ender too?" Wilson asked quietly across the room.
"Yes, she's also Ender."
Notch suddenly stood up and the look on his face told Dare that he wasn't too happy. "Do you know how much I hate enderman?"
"Do you know how much I hate prejudices?" He shot back.
"All of you are evil!"
"You didn't seem to think that when you were dating Elaine." Dare crossed his arms and watched with a smug smile at Notch.
"Who's Elaine?" Donny questioned with a curious but slightly uninterested voice.
"The Ender Dragon."
Apparently Notch didn't tell the others judged solely on their faces. Donny was now definitely interested.
"You WHAT?"
"When did this happen?"
"Well...that's a shocker."
"Playerrrr..."
Notch's eyes never left Dare's. "It really wasn't anything special. We broke it off before things got serious."
Dare couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. Notch didn't even treat Enders correctly, yet he dated the queen of them.
"I would like to get back to my story before I was rudely interrupted."
Notch opened his mouth to say something, but was pulled back into his seat by Alex. Dare smiled over at her and gave a curt nod. "Thank you. Yes, we are both Ender. But you have come to know us, and we have come to care for all of you."
He continued to explain the real story starting from the very beginning. The kidnapping, the journey to the queen, meeting Casey, and the original mission. Steve would jump in from time to time and tell parts of the story. Nobody interrupted surprisingly, including Notch. But that was probably because he was elbowed by Alex when he said something disrespectful.
Dare then told them all about the new mission to rescue Casey and defeat The Assassin. He began talking about how the Ender army would meet their team at Blockport when Notch, once again, decided to interrupt.
"Why are we doing this?" He asked.
"To break Casey out of The Assassin's prison."
"But why?"
Dare knew what he was implying. Why would we risk our lives to save Casey? She's not even his daughter. She's just another Ender. Well he had enough of it.
"Because Casey is a wonderful girl who doesn't deserve what The Assassin is doing to her. I realize that you didn't have the best experience with an enderman, but that event occurred before Queen Elaine changed our laws and views. We've changed and we've been peaceful towards you after all these years. With the experiences I've had with some people in the Overworld, I could say I hate all of you right now. But I don't. I think all of you are great people and I would risk my life to save any of you. I know Casey has a weird way of showing it, but she cares for you Notch. You know how Herobrine is, you know how he acts. But you know him, so you can fight him. Now think about Herobrine and The Assassin torturing Casey. She can't fight, so we have to fight for her."
Notch sat there for awhile in silence. He twiddled with his fingers and his eyes stayed focus to the ground. "I...I'm sorry, Darrell. You're right, I was being petty and unreasonable. I'm sorry." Notch then stood up from the couch, and did the most unexpected thing. He held out his hand, and Dare gladly shook it.
Notch grinned up at him. "What do we have to do?"
Dare grinned back. "I'm glad you asked."

GUYS! I UPDATED EXTREMELY SOON IM HAPPY!
You've had literally nothing to do these couple of days, what else would you have done?
You aren't going to drop my mood no matter how hard you try.
Is that a challenge?
Okay, okay. We are getting off subject. This is a very, very important announcement. One year ago in the month of June, a cringy teenage girl with a Mohawk decided to write a minecraft fanfiction. After some downfalls, the story started to get its plot. A book that started at 14 reads is now at 2,830 reads.
You're getting emotional.
Well this book is my baby, and it's been a wild ride watching it grow and develop. And gaining readers is also great, especially all of you who have stuck with me through this journey.
Um...I actually came to all of their houses and threatened them so they would read our book.
Oh. Well readers are readers so thank you for that. What did you threatened them with anyway?
That their cat would go missing.
What if they don't have one?
I gave them one as a present then threatened them.
What if they were allergic to cats?
...I didn't think about that.
HERO! You can't kill our readers!
I told you I would ruin your mood.
I hate you. If you are dying because of this idiotic ghoul then here's a complementary epipen and thank you for still reading!
