Nine

Steve was leaning against the wall, waiting for Casey and Dare. It was around ten or eleven at night. They slept through the entire day and were sneaking out at night. They didn't want the manager to realize something and then stall the mission. Besides, Steve was really missing the Overworld.

Steve groaned impatiently and looked up at the window. Dare was climbing through with a black bag. Casey was next and she wasn't carrying anything. The two seemed to be whisper-arguing about something.

Dare stepped down and took a step back for Casey. She hopped down then spun around to glare at Dare.

"You stupid idiot!" She hissed. Dare just grunted and turned away.

"I'm sorry, but we need food." Casey scoffed and crossed her arms.

"So you teleport to the kitchen and steal food?" Dare opened his mouth to say something then it slowly turned into a grin.

"What?" Casey asked skeptically.

Dare looked at her in amusement. "Oh nothing. It's just funny to see that you think food is the only thing I stole." Casey cocked her head to the side and stared at him in confusion.

"Why do you look so confused," he paused for dramatic effect, "Caroline?"

Casey's eyes widened as Dare pulled out a small notebook. "You didn't."

"Oh but Caroline Kate Hannings, I did." The grin on his face grew while she looked in utter shock.

"How-when-what?" She asked. Casey surprisingly didn't look mad. Just more shocked and confused.

"Wait," Steve interjected, "I thought your last name was Hillman." She looked over at Steve who she seemed to have forgotten was there.

"It is." She said simply.

"But then how do you have both last names?"

"One of them is my...parents name. I changed it when I got older." Her vague answer left Steve wanting to know more, but her tense structure made it clear that she didn't want to talk about it.

"Now give it." She demanded. Dare looked off as if he were really considering it, then looked back down at her. "Mm...no."

Steve rolled his eyes. "Give it back." Dare groaned and muttered against it, but gave it back. Casey snatched the book out of his hands and glared at him,

"Now can we go?" They both nodded.

"Wait," Steve said in a moment of thought, "why can't we teleport there?"

"We can't."

"But-"

"No." They both said. Casey glanced over at Dare then started to walk down the road. Dare fell behind next to Steve. Steve let out a sigh he didn't know he'd been holding.

"Something wrong?" Dare asked. Steve just shrugged.

"I've been away for about two days. I bet Alex is really worried."

Dare's look changed to guilt he looked down at the ground and didn't say a word.

Casey was still ahead of them and didn't notice anything. She kept walking in front the whole time, but eventually fell back by the two. Dare and Steve were in active conversation most of the walk, but Casey was deadly silent. Steve was worried about her. And he was kind of mad at Dare. Who takes a woman's diary and reads their information? Especially a diary from a deadly and very scary woman.

They kept walking forward throughout the night. It was about three in the morning when they hit another city. Steve groaned in frustration and looked at Casey.

"Where is the stupid castle? I'm tired of all this walking and your poor attitude. So what if he read your diary? I'm in another freaking dimension that no one knows about and I'm sure Herobrine is killing some people right about now." Steve stood taking deep breaths. Dare and Casey shared a look before questioning Steve.

"Why did Herobrine pop into your mind?" Dare asked. Steve stopped what he was doing and looked up at Dare. Why had he thought of Herobrine? And why did he blow up on Casey?

"I- I don't know. I'm sorry. I miss home and Alex and-" Steve stopped in mid sentence. His eyes widened as he realized something.

"We need to get to the queen. Let's go." Steve shot ahead of the two but they caught up quickly. Dare stepped in his path so he couldn't continue.

"What happened? What did you find out?" Dare asked. Casey stood next to him with her arms crossed and interest on her face.

"I-I forgot to do something for Alex. She said it needed it to be done."

Dare's expression changed to worry when Steve said that. "What did you need to do?"

"I forgot to put up the chickens." Casey burst out laughing and Dare gave him the 'you're so stupid' look.

"Chickens? That's what you're worried about?"

"Yes! Alex is going to kill me when I get home." Steve cried out. Dare just rolled his eyes and started to walk away. Casey started after him, still laughing. Steve followed, his face red from embarrassment.

When the three finally calmed down they were past the city and on a country road. There was an abundance of Ender trees and the sky seemed to be getting brighter.

"Are we close?" Steve whined.

"Close-er," Casey replied. Steve kept whining while Casey kept nagging him. Dare stared past them, deep in thought.

"Can't we just teleport?" Steve asked.

"No we have to-" Casey clutched her stomach in pain and fell to the ground. Dare snapped out of his trance and ran over to her. She waved him away.

"I'm...fine. Just need...to catch..breath." Dare stepped away but still stood close in case something happened.

"You okay?" Steve asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. We just need to get to the castle soon." She sat on the ground still clutching her stomach.

"What happened?" Dare asked. He sounded genuinely worried for her, which was odd considering their relationship.

"Just feeling a bit weak."

"We've got the stolen food," Steve pointed out. She smiled and shook her head.

"It's fine. I'll live." Steve helped her up and stepped back when she told him she was fine. Casey took a few steps before crumpling to the ground, but Dare luckily got there before she hit it.

He sighed and shook his head. "You can't make it."

"Yes I can," she said sternly. Dare tightened his grip around her and shook his head.

"No, you can't. I'm going to...teleport." The last word sounded strained but Steve couldn't blame him. He basically looked like a rag doll when he teleported last time. And that was to the nearest city. He had to teleport to the castle, which is way farther away.

"You sure you can do it?" Steve asked. Dare nodded his head and held on to Casey. Steve walked over and they were all consumed in purple particles.

Steve awoke looking at the sky, which was black as any other day. There was light which meant it was morning. He turned on his side when he realized that he was laying on the ground. Casey was sleeping and few blocks away. She still had her arms wrapped around her stomach but otherwise looked unhurt.

Steve sat up against a tree and looked around for Dare. He spotted the enderman sleeping peacefully against a tree. He must've been really tired and wore out from teleporting.

Steve leaned his head against the tree. You know, you wouldn't be in this situation if it weren't for Dare. Steve's eyes shot open. He looked around but no one was there. He didn't recognize the voice. It sounded feminine, it sounded right. He closed his eyes and slumped back against the tree.

What did he do? Create a league to kill your own brother. He shot you and then kidnapped you. Your sister must be so scared.

Who are you? Steve thought. The voice was different. It felt different. It felt so right.

It's none of your concern. I'm only trying to help you.

Why should I believe you?

Because I know evil when I see it. He's evil.

No! Steve woke up panting heavily and sweating. Could the voice be right? Could Dare be evil? Steve shook his head. Dare is saving me and bringing me home. He just wanted me to join the resistance.

Steve nodded but still felt a longing for the voice. It made him feel...powerful.

"Are you okay?" Steve turned his head to see Dare standing close by.

"Yeah. I'm fine." Dare nodded at Steve's answer, still looking unconvinced.

"Well I got us as close to the castle as I could. I gave Casey a sleeping potion so she could sleep off the pain, maybe get back some energy. But that must've been a strong potion. I can carry her the rest of the way.

"Y-yeah okay." Steve held on the tree to stand up. His legs were a bit shaky but started to work after a minute.

"You sure you're okay?" Dare asked with a sleeping Casey in his arms.

"Um...yeah." Dare nodded and started walking. Steve put his hand in his pocket and felt something. He pulled it out and it was a stone dagger. He quickly put his new dagger in his pocket but kept a hand on the hilt just in case.

You're welcome.

Notch sat at the kitchen table. It was still early morning and they all went to bed late, but he just couldn't sleep. He thought of the night before. Besides groceries, Alex brought home a couple of bottles of the good stuff. And of course, they all ended up drunk. Notch shook his head at the memory. They always say to try something new.

*Night Before*

Alex and Jill said they would go prepare dinner if Notch would open up one of the wine bottles. They all agreed and set off to do their job. Gabe and Donny went to go get some movies and Wilson had to set up the seating area. Gordon went back to the Aether so he could get some paperwork done. Everyone was honestly excited for that.

After Notch poured the wine into plastic cups (because that was the nicest they had) he walked into Steve's room. He had no idea what had compelled him to come, but he went.

Notch looked around at everything. The bed sheets were kind of wrinkled because of the night Notch slept on them and he wasn't the best cleaner. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Notch let out a loud sigh.

"Little brother, wherever you are, we miss you." He whispered. Like he would hear it but it made Notch feel better.

Notch walked out of the room and closed the door softly. He could smell the food all the way down the hall and it smelled delicious.

He walked into the living room and saw that the seating area was set up with blankets and pillows. There was a stack of movies next to a tv that looked like it hadn't been touched in years. Wilson was laying on the couch and Donny was laying against the couch dozing off. He walked into the kitchen to find that the aromas would be a slap to the face.

Jill was getting wooden plates out of the cabinet and Alex was next to the stove cooking something delicious. Gabe was taking the plates and putting food that has already been cooked on them. It looked like an assembly line at a factory. Notch stepped out of the crowded kitchen and sat on a recliner.
He has been so stressed lately, it was good to relax and enjoy a night with friends.

He looked over at Wilson who was staring intently at the wall. "Hey. What are you thinking about?" Wilson's eyes snapped towards Notch. He blinked a couple of times before sitting up.

"Ah, it's nothing. Just thinking about stuff." Wilson said with a shrug. Notch smiled at him and looked down at Donny. Wilson joined him and smirked.

"Donny's so stupid." He said.

"But yet he's your friend." Notch said.

"Yeah. All three of us are like brothers. We've been working as guards in your castle for seven years." Notch looked at him in disbelief. Seven years and he didn't even know who they were.

"Wow. That's a long time."

"Nah. You are millions of years old. You've probably seen more things than all of our experiences combined. No offense."

Notch shook his head. "None taken. I have seen many things. Some of them are the most wonderful things in the world, and some you couldn't pay me any amount of money to see again." Wilson smiled and looked back down at Donny.

"I'm so glad Gordon's not here."

"Why do you all not like him?" Wilson stared at him as if he made a comment about his own mother.

"Because he thinks he's so superior. He thinks he can boss us all around. And he is threatened by me because I'm one of the top guards."

Notch was about to say something when the kitchen door opened. Jill walked out and cleared her throat.

"Time for dinner!" Donny shot up and ran to the kitchen before Jill had time to finish. Wilson went in then Jill and last was Notch. It was so crowded in the kitchen that Notch didn't know who was who. Eventually everyone got their food and exited to the living room.

Alex and Gabe sat on the love seat, Wilson and Donny were on the floor, Notch and Jill sat on the couch. Donny got up and passed out the cups of wine.

"And now for the most important part," Wilson started, "the choosing of the movie." Everyone grinned and looked at each other.

"Let's not do a scary movie now. Because we are eating." Donny said. Everybody laughed at him.

"Yeah, because we are eating. Not because you are a total scaredy cat." Jill accused. Donny's mouth was in an O shape and he pretended to be hurt.

"Okay, okay. We won't do a horror movie because of the little mistress over there." Wilson grinned at Donny, who gave an intent glare.

"Let's do a comedy." Alex said. Everyone agreed and Wilson brought out the choices.

"Okay, so there's That One Tree, The Circle Heads, and John's Girl."

"I think we should do The Circle Heads," Alex said," because I haven't watched that movie in years." Everybody looked around and nodded their heads in agreement.

Everyone laughed and enjoyed their dinner. Notch even relaxed a bit. Wilson and Donny would add cometary and make them laugh. Gabe would be sarcastic or make inappropriate comments here and there.

"You know, I think Notch could be the Circle Head King." Jill suggested. Alex burst out laughing.

"Well the king does have the roundest head, but I think Donny's is rounder." Wilson tried to hold back a smirk but failed.

"Well I'm sorry that my head is 'rounder' than yours. Just watch the stupid movie." Donny pouted at the TV and ate his food.

Alex looked exasperated at Donny. "That's your fourth plate of food."

Donny shrugged and patted his stomach."I'm sorry, but my sexy abs need their energy." Notch raised an eyebrow.

"First off, three plates of cheese potatoes and another plate of Mac-n-cheese doesn't provide that much energy. And second off, you don't have abs." Notch crossed his arms as if to increase his 'swag'.

"Ha, sucks to be you," Wilson yelled. Gabe smacked both of them on the back of their heads.

"If y'all want to know what abs look like then here." Gabe lifted up his shirt to reveal a tanned six pack. Wilson slumped back and pouted while Donny poked them to see if they were real. Alex was basically drooling over him.

"Okay you can put you're shirt down now." Notch said sternly. Gabe looked at him then at Alex and quickly pulled his shirt back down. Wilson glanced up at him.

"Whatever. I'm still a better fighter." He mumbled.

"Oh really? You want to go then?" Gabe asked clearly wanting to punch his friend.

"Boys, wait until you are filled up with alcohol to fight. Then it will be funnier." Jill interjected. Both the boys pouted and slumped back, still fuming.

"Well then let's dig in. And I know that wine was nasty, but it was the cheapest one there." Alex admitted. Donny hopped up and ran to the kitchen coming back seconds later with some cans of beer.

He passed them all out but hesitated when he came to Notch. "You sure you want one?" Donny asked.

"Yes, I would. Gordon won't let anyone have alcohol in the castle, and that is a wise choice. But the ruler of Minecraft does want a beer every once in a while."

Donny nodded sympathetically. He tossed a can towards Notch and he caught it in mid air. He clicked open the cap and took a sip. The alcohol had a surprising zing to it. Notch was shocked at the taste because he lied. Notch, the ruler of Minecraft, had never had a beer.

***

Hey guys! This chapter is kind of happier (I guess that's the word) because it has been depressing lately. Anyways, Notch never had a beer. Just a little scene to make this kind of funny that includes nothing important (or does it?).

Also, thank you all who are reading. You guys always make my day when I see another read pop up. So thank you. See ya next chapter!
