Eighteen

Notch sighed heavily as he was sitting on his throne. The door to the throne room opened slightly and a familiar head popped out the door. Notch looked away and stared at the wall glumly.

"Sir? You've been moping all morning and requested that nobody speak to you." Gordon said with a slightly panicked tone.

"Yes I did and I see orders were taken very well." Notch replied with harsh sarcasm that made Gordon step back. Notch noticed this and his attitude softened.

"I'm sorry Gordon, I've just been under a lot of stress since this morning. Alex said something that really...made me think." Gordon closed the door behind him and walked across the room to get to Notch.

"If you don't mind me asking, what did she say?" Gordon asked. Notch looked up slightly before shifting uncomfortably in his chair.

"It-it was nothing." Notch said. Gordon's eyebrows lurched upwards unconvincingly at the pitiful cover up Notch gave.

"You wouldn't of hid yourself away from everybody if it was nothing. You haven't even eaten lunch and it's close to dinner." Gordon said then crossed his arms waiting patiently. Notch growled lowly so Gordon couldn't hear knowing that he was in a corner.

"Well then I better go get some dinner then." Notch said with a small smile as he stepped off of his throne. Gordon scowled as he watched Notch walk past him.

"You know I won't be letting this go, right?" Gordon said, already knowing the answer. Notch turned around and nodded.

"Of course I know that, you are Gordon after all." Notch said before heading out of the room.

Gordon looked at him in confusion as he was walking out when it finally clicked. "Hey!" He yelled. Gordon started running and caught up to Notch as he was walking down the main corridor.

"What was that supposed to mean?" Gordon asked after he caught his breath. Notch smirked and shook his head at him.

"It just means that you are always there to nag me." Notch said. Gordon smiled and nodded at this, clearly not getting Notch's message. Notch just chuckled a bit at the head guard before stopping in front of a pair of wooden doors.

Notch opened the doors and walked into the cafeteria. There were angels, guards, and other workers sitting at the tables and eating dinner. It sounded kind of chaotic, but that's how it usually sounded. Notch attempted to walk through the ocean of people and Gordon trailing right behind him. After shoving through the swarm of people, Notch and Gordon finally made it through and entered the kitchen.

"Jeez, is it always that crowded?" Notch muttered under his breath. Gordon stood up and shook his head.

"No, today is Free Food Wednesday. Happens on the first Wednesday of every month." Gordon stated. Notch looked at the food in confusion. How did I not know this? He asked himself.

Because you don't even pay for your food anyways.

Oh, yeah...

Notch shook his thoughts out of his head and looked around the exquisite kitchen for food. One of the chefs emerged from one of the doors and his eyes widened at the sight of Notch.

"Sir, what a surprise to see you here. We could've brought your food out to you like we always do." The chef said his voice filled with surprise.

"I just want food, I don't want a huge gourmet of a meal. What do you have?" Notch asked. The chef looked at him in confusion.

"You want what the people are having?" He asked slowly and in an almost disgusted tone of voice.

"Can you please just get me some food?" Notch asked impatiently. The chef nodded and scrambled out of the room. After about a minute, the chef came back out a handed both Notch and Gordon a tray of food.

They both thanked him and walked out of the kitchen and into the cafeteria. The place seemed to be almost packed except for a couple of spots on one of the tables. Notch grinned as he noticed that Wilson, Gabe, and Donny were sitting next to the empty seats. Notch and Gordon shoved their way once again through the people. They finally made it to the table and sat down surprising the guys.

"Woah, he finally emerges from his cave." Donny said in wonder. The other guys started playing along as well.

"I never thought I'd see it with my own eyes, but here he is." Gabe said, his eyes widening with every word.

"This is such an honor. But we mustn't make sudden movements or we might scare him off." Wilson cautioned. Notch snickered causing the guys to start laughing as well. Gordon, however, had his permanent look of disproval.

"Do I have to throw a lamp at you?" Donny asked Gordon.

"Why would you throw a lamp at me?" Gordon asked looking at Donny like he was stupid.

"So you can...LIGHTEN UP." Donny yelled. Wilson and Gabe both screamed "Ohhh!!" at the top of their lungs. Notch burst out laughing at Donny's joke even if it was stupid. Gordon's scowl deepened.

"Out of all the spots, why did we sit here?" Gordon asked with clear irritation making Notch laugh harder.

"Oh, come on, you know you love us." Wilson gushed making Gordon gag.

"I can assure you that I don't." Gordon said flatly. Wilson wiped the fake tear from his face. Gabe leaned over and patted Wilson's back.

"He didn't mean it. He's just confused with his feelings." Gabe said, still patting his back.

"Okay guys, stop messing with Gordon." Notch said with a smile making the other guys sigh.

"So Notch, how's Alex?" Gabe asked. Notch tensed up remembering what happened earlier.

"Uh, she's good. I told her that she could come see you on Thursdays since that's your day off." A grin started to spread on Gabe's face.

"I hope I get to see her tomorrow. And how's Steve doing since he's been back?"

Notch squirmed in his seat as he recalled this morning when Steve saw the picture. "He's...having a bit of an emotional crisis. But him, Casey, and Alex are all back at the house watching movies and eating junk food." Notch seemed to have lost the guys in his story but they just nodded and acted like they knew what he was talking about.

"Why is he having an emotional crisis?"
Donny asked. Gordon looked up at him in curiosity.

"Because...there was a picture from the last Herobrine attack. It was a symbol that we think his "sidekick" put in the dirt. When we showed it to Steve, he noticed that it wasn't just a symbol but there was a name scratched into the ground. He rushed out of the castle and I realized that the name in the dirt was one of his closest friends who we found out was killed in the attack." Notch looked around at them and everyone's mouth was hanging open.

"Are you serious?" Wilson asked. Notch nodded solemnly making the guys look down at the table.

"Is that why you were in the throne room all day?" Donny asked. Notch shrugged.

"Sort of. It's just confusing." Before anybody could ask anything else there was a tap on Notch's shoulder. He turned around to see a nervous looking angel holding a clipboard.

"S-sir? I n-need to talk t-to you about something." He seemed to be really young for an angel so Notch could understand why head so nervous.

"What's this about?" Notch asked.

"Um...there's a s-situation in Cobble City." The boy said. Notch glanced back at Gordon who got the message and got up. They walked after him out of the cafeteria leaving the guys confused. When they reached the lobby the boy turned around and faced Gordon and Notch.

"Okay, what's going on?" Notch asked.

"T-there's a large group of p-protesters in Main Street of Cobble City. They want t-to know about the Herobrine case." He said. Cobble City was one of the largest and most popular cities in Minecraft.

"You know you don't have to be so nervous around me right?" Notch asked. The boy looked around anxiously before answering.

"I'm sorry, I am j-just really shy." The boy said.

"I'm sorry about that. But anyways you said there was a group of protesters? How large is the group?" Notch asked.

"Hundreds. A-and they want to see you, your brother Steve, and your sister Alex. They threaten to riot if they don't get answers over the attacks."

Notch looked back at Gordon with a worried expression. With such a big crowd and a possibility of a riot, then this could become a bigger problem than the Herobrine attacks.

"So they want to see me, Alex, and Steve to explain the Herobrine attacks? But how do they even know about that? We have kept it top secret and and witnesses are quiet about it so how could they know?" Notch asked, mostly to himself. He could feel himself starting to become stressed out and anxious.

"I don't know, sir. Unless somebody leaked it." Gordon said.

"You mean somebody from the castle?" Gordon nodded. "Great. Just great." Notch turned back to the boy.

"When are we supposed to go down there?"

"Uh...like right now." Notch sighed heavily knowing Steve and Alex were still probably upset with him.

"I guess we should go and get Steve and Alex." Notch said. The boy scurried off somewhere and one of the older angels came back with the same clipboard.

"I'm sorry, I had to send him to get you. Did he explain it all?" The guy said with a deep voice.

"Yes. So should we go through the portal to get them?" Notch asked.

"First I have to get a couple of guards to come with us. I've seen the protest on the news and it's a big one." The guy said. Before he could turn around to go find some other guards Wilson, Donny, and Gabe walked past with no subtlety whatsoever making Notch smirk slightly.

"I'm sorry but we couldn't help but overhear your need for brave, masculine bodyguards." Donny said while flexing his non existent muscles.

"You can come. But we have to go get Alex and Steve before we go to Cobble City." Wilson, Gabe, and Donny looked giddy with excitement. The angel who was holding the clipboard seemed to be okay with this arrangement and they started to walk down the hall. They exited the castle and walked a bit before moving some brush and entering the glowstone portal.

After being transported into the cave and making their way through the woods they came upon the wooden house. Notch stepped up to the door and knocked knowing that whoever answered the door would give him a harsh reply. And just his luck, Casey answered.

"What do you want?" She asked with a large amount of disgust towards Notch. He looked up at her with an emotionless expression.

"I need to talk to Steve and Alex." Notch said.

"Well I'm sorry, Hero, but that's not going to happen." She spat at him. Notch tensed up at her use of the word Hero.

Somebody tapped on Casey's shoulder and she stepped back inside. Steve took her place and stared at Notch then looked around at the others with a small grin.

"Sorry about Casey, she's been aggravated all day. Please, come in." Steve said politely. He stepped back and held open the door for everyone to come in. After they all filed in, Alex stepped out of the kitchen and she jumped back after seeing all the people in the living.

"Notch? What are you and the guys doing here?" She questioned.

"There's a huge group of protesters demanding answers about the attacks in Cobble City. They specifically requested me, you, and Steve." Notch stared at his confused sister who was staring at a confused Steve.

"How do they even know? Wasn't it a top secret case?" Steve asked. Notch ever so slightly noticed Casey who was listening intently to the conversation.

"We think it's a leak. It could be inside our castle, or right in front of us." Notch said, eyeing Casey. Everybody turned to her and her eyes went wide with shock.

"You think I leaked it?" Casey asked. Notch shrugged, enjoying the reaction the Casey had. Of course she wasn't the leak, but Notch wanted to make her sweat.

"Casey wasn't the one one who leaked it Notch. Let's just go and get this over with." Alex said with exhaustion. As they were starting to leave, Notch glanced back at Casey who was sticking her tongue out at him.

He scoffed. "Very mature."

"Since when have you known me to be mature?" She asked with a laugh. Notch chuckled before walking out the door. When he turned back around, Alex and Gabe were standing farther away from each other than usually but then he noticed Steve who was wedged in between them.

"I can use the teleporter, sir, to teleport us to Cobble City." Notch nodded for him to use it and in a matter of seconds they were just outside of Cobble City. Notch had been here before so he didn't have much of a reaction but Alex, Steve, and mostly everyone else had never been here.

"This place is huge! This makes the castle look like a dump!" Notch sent a sharp glare Donny's way and his eyes widened when he realized what he'd just said.

"N-no I mean...uh...your castle is a nice dump?" Donny stepped back. Alex face palmed and Steve was still staring at the city's skyline not even noticing what was happening out here. Notch turned his attention away from Donny and looked at the angel who was holding the clipboard.

"So where's this 'protest' at?"

"At the Cart Cube Plaza. And we might want to hurry. An update was just sent to me saying that the crowd was becoming frenzied." The Angel had a slightly nervous hitch to his voice.

"Well the Plaza is literally right down the road so let's go." Gordon said, taking the lead. Everybody else followed and as they got closer to the Plaza, the noise became louder. They made it to the protest and Notch gasped along with everyone else. This was definitely not hundreds of people, more like THOUSANDS.

"What. Is. This." Wilson said with awe.

"See that stage - like platform? I'll need the three guards to stand in front just as a security measure. Notch will stand behind the podium to give answers and whatnot. Steve, Alex, the Head Guard, and I will be at the sides of the stage. Remember, Herobrine isn't real and the attacks weren't by him. Got it?" Everyone nodded but Notch doubted that a lot of them knew what was even going on. The Angel guy lead everyone else to their spots but Notch stayed behind. He took in a deep, nervous breath before taking his place on the stage. There was a microphone set up for him already.

Notch cleared his throat before beginning. "Excuse me." He started. The noise and rants continued so he tried to be a bit louder. "Excuse me!" Still, nobody payed attention.

Notch drew in a deep breath knowing he would have to use his "loud" voice to get anybody's attention. "I NEED EVERYONE'S ATTENTION SO SHUT UP AND LISTEN!" The crowd went quiet in a matter of seconds when they realized the God of Minecraft was in their presence.

"Thank you. I know that this group protest is here to get answers over the attacks on villages recently." Notch started. The crowd burst into cheering again making Notch a bit irritated.

"Yeah! We all know Herobrine was behind this!" One of the protesters yelled.

"Herobrine was, is, and always will be a myth. That rumor is fake; Herobrine is not part of these attacks. However, the person who is behind them is very dangerous and my team of highly trained detectives are working to solve the case."

"If it's not Herobrine, then how come the attacker uses the same methods he does?" The crowd all cheered at the person who made this comment.

"Once again, Herobrine is a myth. And the attacker is an arsonist, therefore he uses fire to burn down the villages which isn't that uncommon." Notch clenched the sides of the podium in effort to keep his nerves down. It didn't help.

"You are a liar!! Herobrine is real and he is a lot cooler than you!" Suddenly a person in the crowd threw a piece of coal hitting Notch square on the head. (A/N I'm sorry but I couldn't stop laughing at this XD)

Notch stumbled back a bit, dazed from the impact. Alex rushed to his side as the crowd raged on.

"How do we know that the guy standing on the stage isn't Herobrine? He looks exactly like him!" Steve's eyes went wide as he realized that they were talking about him. Gordon took place behind the podium to try and talk the crowd down.

"Come on! If Baldy couldn't convince us what makes you think Tight Ass Magee will?" Donny started snickering in front before Gordon threw a pencil at his head to make him shut up.

"Please, people, we are trying to keep everyone safe. We are trying our best to catch the attackers and when we do, they will get the punishment to the extreme." Gordon was satisfied with his answer but realized his mistake all too late.

"You mean there are more than one attackers? See, they even lied to us about the attacks!" The crowd roared to life and Notch knew that the riot was starting even in his dazed state. Alex growled in irritation before standing up  and shoving Gordon out of the way.

"ENOUGH!!!" She screamed. "This is probably the most pathetic protest I have ever seen! I mean, we told you that we are trying to stop the attacks and you actually want Herobrine to be the destroyer? Yes, he is a myth but if he were here right now he would eat everyone's soul." The crowd was dead silent. One lone hand raised from the crowd as it was the same guy who had been commenting.

"What?" She asked in an annoyed tone.

"Herobrine doesn't eat souls." The man said in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Well how would you know? He's not real and if he was, the soul would be inside of him so nobody could tell you if he did or not. And you also said earlier that Steve is Herobrine in disguise. Really? Are you guys stupid or something? Steve is the second God of all of us and you guys know it. So how about you stop threatening to riot or I swear to my brother Notch that I will turn to my bad side. And trust me, I am not afraid of injuring a few know it alls." Alex finished her rant with the fire still blazing in her eyes. Notch, even though everything he looked at was blurry, was shocked by all of this.

Suddenly, people started scrambling to get out of the Plaza. It went from thousands of people to just a couple left all because of Alex. Suddenly Gabe jumped up on to the stage, grabbed into what people thought was going to be a hug, then kissed her.

And boy, did that make Steve angry.
