chapter 4

It was dark.

Why was it so dark?

Yoongi didn't want to die. But he had consigned himself to his own fate. Someone like him probably deserved it

But he heard that voice that made his heart break

"Hang in there, Yoongi hyung, please!"

Was Jimin crying? Jimin didn't deserve to cry. Why would he cry--

"I love you, okay? No matter what you say, I love you! So please come back!"

Was he lying? He had to be lying.

If he was, then Yoongi would die with a broken heart

But if he wasn't lying, then Jimin would be broken-hearted forever, wouldn't he? He was a terrible person, wasn't he?

He almost wanted to cry. But his thoughts started to slow

And they fell silent, almost like they pitied his struggle

If Jimin was crying for him, was crying for the fact he wasn't going to wake up

Then he could embrace the possibility of being loved by Jimin...

His desperate, one-sided love returned... the thought was so joyous and happy that he felt this pressure--

Something was gone.

Then, he heard a beeping.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

And he opened his eyes. Was he in a hospital room? It had to be, as he noticed the machines connected to him and the sickly-clean smell of the room.

He took a breath, and then suddenly realized it was more clear than anything he had ever breathed prior. Did he have the surgery? He almost panicked, but realized that his previous dreams and thoughts while in--

While in whatever this state was-- he had only thought of how much he'd loved Jimin, so was his hanahaki...? He almost couldn't believe it. He really did feel the tears beading up in his eyes. He started to cry, beside himself.

"Jimin, where are you?" Yoongi whispered to himself, his throat aching-- the words hurt to say. He allowed himself to believe-- he allowed himself to believe that Jimin would come and would put all these bad feelings away--

He didn't realize that his belief really did come into fruition. Had his crying really been that loud? Jimin ran into the room, a little startled by the fact that Yoongi was sitting up.

"Yoongi hyung? Can you see me? You're not just--" he made to continue speaking, but Chun-Hwa ended up walking in as well.

"You have to calm yourself down, you might confuse him even more," said Chun-Hwa. "I'm going to run one more test, okay? Bear with me." Yoongi nodded.

Chun-Hwa pressed on his chest again.

"Inhale." Yoongi did so, and her expression seemed to light up. "Yes, okay, now exhale." Chun-Hwa stepped back, smiling like an idiot.

"Your hanahaki is gone!" She said. "The roots are gone!" Jimin turned to look at Yoongi, and he smiled.

"You're going to live, Yoongi hyung." Jimin's smile was so genuine-- how was he so happy about the fact that Yoongi was alive? Yoongi started to cry again, this time burying his face into Jimin's chest.

Jimin stroked Yoongi's hair comfortingly, tears beginning to fall as well, and they both clung to each other, crying tears that fell like those petals...

Those petals that had brought him to the person he loves most.

---

The next few days were spent in agonizing pain, which Yoongi found mildly ironic. He had been given the grim news that his vocal chords had been literally ripped apart, which probably explained the pain he felt when he had first woken up in the hospital room.

Jimin was there almost every day, from when Yoongi woke up to when he would fall asleep, talking his ear off with the news of what he'd done that day to remaining silent when Yoongi wanted it quiet.

"Everyone was really relieved when you woke up," Jimin explained. "Namjoon hyung broke a chair because he got too excited when he stood up, but you know how he is. Jin hyung was cooking, and then he burned his hand on the tray when I told him the news. Those are the more notable ones."

"B-but... why...?" Yoongi's voice cracked and he winced at how bad it sounded.

"Shh, shh," Jimin said softly, tapping a finger against Yoongi's lips. "Everyone is happy to see that you're okay, you know? Especially me! You're... important to me." Jimin's face was dusted with a light blush, and Yoongi decided immediately that it was cute and he wanted more of that.

"I-I never realized you h-had such a c-crush on me," Yoongi chuckled softly, clasping Jimin's hand like a lifeline.

"You stole my heart, you know. I'll report you for theft," Jimin said hotly, but it was replaced with a happy smile. "I'm glad I realized my feelings for you. I'd always had them, but I didn't think of them too much... but it's different now.

"I love you, Yoongi, and that much is true. You're an irreplaceable part of my life, and it took me awhile to realize that. I'm sorry I couldn't stop your hanahaki earlier..."

Yoongi shook his head. "I-it's okay. I'm g-glad you got to understand your feelings eventually."

Jimin smiled softly, gently stroking Yoongi's cheek. "I'm just so relieved that you're okay. I don't know what I would have done if you died."

Yoongi shook his head. "I-I would have hated to break your heart." He paused.

"W-When I get out of here... I'm going to buy you a bouquet." Yoongi nodded. "Y-yeah... that's right. I will."

"Shouldn't you hate flowers by now?" Jimin said worriedly. "I mean... they caused you so much pain..." Yoongi shook his head at Jimin's words.

"I suppose... I can deal with them if they remind me of you," Yoongi mumbled, looking away from Jimin with a flushed face.

"Aw, Hyung, that's so sappy," Jimin teased softly. Yoongi gently punched Jimin in the arm.

"Hush," Yoongi grumbled. "I d-don't wanna hear it from you..." He bit his lip as Jimin giggled. He paused. "I'm... s-so happy you love me."

Jimin gently tapped Yoongi on the nose. "Well, I'm lucky too, you know." He paused, frowning. "But you really have to tell me when you're hurting next time. There are people out there who care for you, and I want you to believe it."

Yoongi nodded, coughing again, but to his relief, no flower petals were there.

"T-thank you."

"No, thank you."
