sixteen

Taehyung bit his nails nervously, staring at the question paper on his desk. He had successfully solved four out of six questions and was seventy to eighty percent sure that his answer and method were correct. But by the time he reached the fifth question he was sweating. For the last two days Taehyung had been preparing for his math class test and yet here he was struggling to answer a simple equation. He cursed himself for getting distracted with the thoughts of his date with jaebum while studying and almost chewed his thumb nail till the skin. He scribbled on his rough sheet trying to find a solution but let out a frustrated sigh when he couldn't reach a logical answer.

Suddenly he's pulled out of his panicked thoughts when a folded sheet falls on his desk right in front of his eyes. He frowns opening the paper and gasps when he sees the answers of all the equations written on that sheet. He looks up trying to find whoever threw that sheet and his eyes get caught with jaebum's who's sitting on the third bench in the adjacent row. Jaebum smiles at Taehyung and nods for him to continue writing which Taehyung quickly does. He jots down the answers of the last two questions then puts the folded paper in his pocket before getting up to submit his answer sheet.

On his way back from the teacher's desk he sees jaebum's hand on the edge of his desk, palm open and fingers sticking out slightly. As Taehyung passed by jaebum's desk he made sure to brush his fingers with jaebum's which made both the boys blush. Jaebum straightened in his seat smiling like an idiot while Taehyung sat in his seat giggling. Once the bell rang the students submitted their answer sheets groaning and complaining while leaving the classroom. Taehyung walked out with yeonjun who was freaking out about the test but he still didn't miss the wink jaebum gave him.

"Okay, what the hell are you giggling about?" Yeonjun asked, pissed off with his best friend because he wasn't listening.

"Nothing. Nothing at all." Taehyung said opening his locker and placing his math books inside.

"Stop lying to me. Did you and jungkook make up or something?"

Taehyung's smile faded and yeonjun realised that he made a mistake by mentioning jungkook's name.

"Taehyung-"

"I'm getting late for my class." Taehyung interrupted him, closing his locker after taking out his biology binder and then walking away without another word.

Yeonjun sighed and walked to his own locker. He felt bad for not being able to help his best friend out, but how was he supposed to help when he didn't know what exactly was going on? Yeonjun had spoken to jungkook's friends even though they don't sit together during lunch now, all of them knew that Taehyung and Jungkook would be together again so there's no point in not talking to each other anyway. And besides, they wanted to help their friends get together and stop fighting because it didn't really make sense.

"Hey." Yeonjun heard mark's voice and turned to see mark and yugyeom smiling at him.

"Hi guys."

"Did you talk to Taehyung yet?" Mark asked.

"No not yet. But like, I think he's still upset about their fight."

"Jungkook's been grumpy too. And for some goddamn reason even Eunwoo is acting up." Yugyeom groaned rubbing his forehead.

"What? Why?" Yeonjun asked confused, because eunwoo doesn't seem the type of guy to get angry and continue to be angry for a long time.

"They argued after you and Tae left. Eunwoo was so mad at jungkook that I almost thought he'd punch jungkook or something." Mark said.

"That surprises me."

"Yeah us too. Eunwoo and jaehyun are the calm ones. So seeing them angry kind of seems like something out of the blue."

"Well, this has to stop. Let's lock jungkook and Taehyung in a classroom." Yugyeom suggested.

"Hell no, they might end up hurting each other. And I'm not ready to choose between whose wounds should I tend to." Mark replied absolutely hating the idea and making it clear with the tone of his voice. Stern.

"You never know, they might end up all over each other too. If you know what I mean."

"Yugyeom I said no. Both of them are stubborn and extremely angry with each other right now. Locking them up in a classroom would only worsen their situation. Even if they don't hit each other, they might say something hurtful and then regret and then there'll be more drama. We don't want that now do we?"

"We don't. But Taehyung is an emotional person. Jungkook might melt seeing Taehyung cry! You saw how he reacted that day!"

"No yugyeom. This is different. We're talking about pent up anger. Why can't you understand my point?"

"You aren't understanding my point either!"

"Guys stop!" Yeonjun interrupted. "We can't argue amongst ourselves. We have to help our friends out and not cause more problems."

"Fuck I'm so frustrated!" Yugyeom ran his fingers through his hair, closing his eyes to control his anger.

"I know.. and I understand. But we need to think of a better way Yugs." Mark said wrapping his arm around yugyeom's shoulder who sighed and leaned into mark's touch.

"Here you go. Strawberry milkshake with rainbow pastry." Jaebum placed the tray down on their table and Taehyung clapped his hands in excitement before taking a sip of his favourite milkshake.

"Wahh jaebum you're the best!"

"But you're not. I told you to leave the project to me but look at you." Jaebum complained, frowning and looking away from Taehyung.

"What's that supposed to mean. I'm a part of this group too."

"Yeah and so is Taemin but I don't see him working with us."

"He's doing his part jaebum. I've messaged him and he said he'll do his work at home."

"Fine. But if our project is ruined because of him-"

"Calm down, that won't happen. Trust me." Taehyung smiled and jaebum couldn't help but return that smile. Taehyung is just too cute to stay mad at.

"Alright. I trust you." He said making Taehyung giggle. "oh and here's your money."

"What the hell. Don't tell me you bought this with your money!" Taehyung's smile faded and an angry scowl took over his angelic features.

"Taeh-"

"How dare you jaebum. How could you make me feel inferior like that!?"

"What! No! That's not what I-"

"Get up and go buy something for yourself with my money." Taehyung glared so dangerously at jaebum that he didn't have any other choice but to follow Taehyung's order.

Jaebum nodded his head and quickly got up out of his seat. Taehyung kept glaring at him until he returned to their table with a tray of grilled chicken sandwich and coke. When he settled down with his plate of food Taehyung smiled at him oh so sweetly that jaebum almost got a heart attack.

"Now that was easy wasn't it?"

"You're scary Taehyung." Jaebum pouted.

"I know." Taehyung laughed and winked at jeabum who laughed as well.

"But I'm serious jaebum. If we're doing this then it has to be fifty-fifty okay? You won't be the only one spending money yeah?"

"Okay." Jaebum sighed. "I'm sorry Taehyung, I really didn't mean to make you feel inferior."

"I know silly." Taehyung reached out to ruffle jeabum's hair to which jaebum just chuckled and let Taehyung do what he wanted without complaining.

Taehyung got up and sat next to jaebum trying to feed him a bite of his rainbow pastry but jaebum politely declined saying that he didn't like that flavour. Taehyung gasped dramatically at him and started explaining how tasty the pastry is and jaebum is making a huge mistake by not eating it. Jaebum laughed at Taehyung's tactics to make him eat the pastry and they almost wrestled with each other, Taehyung trying to feed jaebum and jeabum trying to block Taehyung. When Taehyung wasn't showing any signs of giving up jaebum started tickling him and Taehyung immediately stopped bursting into a laughing fit.

"You're so cruel." Taehyung whined holding his aching tummy from all the laughing that he did just now.

"Ah I almost forgot. Uh Taehyung, there's a party this Saturday at Jackson's house, will you come with me? Please?"

"Of course. You know where to pick me up from." Taehyung said eating the pastry and sipping his milkshake. "But before that, I need to buy a new outfit so, will you come with me shopping? Please?"

Jaebum chuckled at Taehyung's cuteness.

"Of course."

"I'll be spending my money though." Taehyung warned.

"Okay. I'll just buy your accessories."

"Jaebum-"

"Please Taehyung. I really want to." Jaebum attempted to make a puppy dog face but his failure only made Taehyung laugh.

"Alright, alright, stop doing that."

Taehyung laughed with jaebum not caring about his surroundings. He was truly happy and he wanted things to be this way. Though he did miss jungkook, more than he wants to admit. But being with jaebum, he almost forgets about jungkook; well that is only until his brain starts comparing jungkook to jaebum and all the 'what if' and possible similar situations start to pop up in his head. However, Taehyung is learning how to distract himself from those thoughts. He's willing to learn it because there's is no hope for him to ever be with jungkook in any romantic way.

Unknown to him, someone who had just entered the café, had seen Taehyung laughing in someone else's arms. Someone who is not him and it made a murderous rage course through his body. He had never felt this way ever before and it did surprise him as well, but maybe that's exactly what he needed. It's what he needed to realize his mistake. Now, he was determined to make Taehyung his and his only.
