Chapter 2 - Memory Lane

"Jimmy didn't know who you were. I was just telling him." Katherine said. She seemed more calm about it than Jimmy had. Scott entertained the possibility of the fishman being scared of him.

"Ah. I see." Scott nodded. He shot the cod ruler a look, to tease him. Jimmy scowled, but a bit of red tinted his face. Scott couldn't tell why. He did laugh a bit at his frustration though. Katherine just glanced at the two and shrugged, then stood up and walked away.

"Kath, don't leave me!-" Jimmy whisper-shouted. Scott laughed. Jimmy frowned at him. The two sat in silence for a few minutes. Jimmy scooted away from him. "What?" He asks.

"Shut up." Jimmy huffed, and turned away from him. "I'm sorry." Scott said. Jimmy looked back at him, frustrated. Something in his eyes. It seemed familiar. Whatever it was, it sent a shiver down his spine. At the same time though, he felt a sudden, slight fondness for him.

In the blink of an eye, he was no longer at the table. Scott wasn't draped with clothing and cape, embroidered with gold. He instead bared a simple jacket with a floral crown upon his head. Poppies perhaps? The grass beneath him was soft. He felt someone laying against him. Scott smiled warmly. He had no idea how long it had been, but he somehow had a hint of existential dread, a thought of this not being something that would last forever.

Then, the world shifted. He was then with the person, a better view of him, as they were in a house. The two hung a fish up in an item frame. "Pufferish of Peace." The person said. Scott laughed faintly. Then, the scenery changed again.

Scott was at a grave, planting a flower. Tears streamed down his face. Waves of anger and anguish all at once. Scott didn't know why. All he knew was grief. His tears fell onto the red flower.

He then once more changed. He felt pain for a second. He accepted it completely. It would release him and so he could be with him again. With whom, he wasn't sure. The scenes replayed in his mind, but eventually faded. Scott returned to reality, with an extremely confused Jimmy looking at him.

Scott realized he was on the floor. Nobody else was around besides Jimmy and Katherine. They looked worried. "-huh? Where is everyone? What happened?" His eyes went wide with bewilderment.

"You fainted, just out of the blue." Katherine said. "Somehow, slapping you didn't wake you up." Jimmy mumbled. Scott patted his pockets, sighing in relief that he wasn't pickpocketed when he was passed out. He stood up and prepared to fly back home, as it appeared almost everyone else did too, only to realize he couldn't lift off the ground.

Scott muttered a curse. Jimmy and Katherine discussed what they should do about him. Scott heard snippets of the conversation. "..The closest kingdom..." "..over my dead body!" "...please..." He hoped they would hurry their conversation up. It was getting dark out.

The two walked back over. "Jimmy and I are going to fly you to his kingdom so you can recover, since it's the closest." Katherine says, smiling. "I'm sure he has lots of space." As she added that last part, Scott saw the dread on Jimmy's face.

Before he could say anything, they took him along. The three went to The Cod Empire. Scott stumbled to his feet on the dock.
